Wonderful views of Somes Sound and Sargent Mountain

The double sliding glass doors in the great room allow the feeling of bringing the outside in. Nestled in the pines, this setting offers the peace and quiet of being away from it all, yet it is just a half mile from Rt. 102. Relax and enjoy your natural surroundings, as you see the deer pass by or the sound of the birds on the Sound. As you enter the cottage, you will be impressed with the finely appointed upgrades made by the new owners. The first floor contains a master with a comfortable queen size bed, adjacent to a full bath, a second bedroom with two twin size beds, and a laundry. Climb the stairs to the loft bedroom with one twin bed that overlooks the cathedral ceiling and the great room. A step up from the loft, you will find a third private bedroom with two twin beds and half bath. The tastefully furnished great room provides
adequate seating for guests to converse, read, watch a movie or to relax in front of the fire place, after a day on the trails. Outdoor living is max from Hyland Cottage, conveniently located across from swimming and kayaking on Echo Lake, or climbing the trails of Beech and Acadia Mountains, nearby. With Cadillac Mountain and the surrounding carriage trails just minutes away, you will have easy access to hiking, biking and experiencing the magnitude of Acadia. Enjoy fine dining in nearby Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor, or delight in the experience of a casual lobster feast! Because words cannot describe the beauty that surrounds Hall Quarry, we urge you to come and experience Acadia National Park and its breathtaking sights, for yourself! (Turnover day is Saturday)

Perfect Acadia Getaway
Everything about our stay was perfect. Check in was easy. The cottage is adorable, clean, and clearly well-maintained. The views were amazing and the solitude was so relaxing. We had everything we needed for a wonderful getaway to Acadia. One of the best places we’ve ever stayed on VRBO. We would definitely try to stay here again if in the area.

Lovely cottage in the woods
We had a wonderful several days at Hyland Cottage. The location was ideal for us to get a true Maine experience. It was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The view was great and we saw several animals during our stay. We would definitely stay here if we come back to the area.

Beautiful cottage on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island
This was a perfect landing spot for our family with three young children while we explored Acadia National Park. We loved the “quietside” of MDI.

This is our second year in a row staying at this amazing cottage. This is the perfect base for your adventures in Acadia and beyond. The house is well-appointed, clean, and conveniently located. Carl is a pleasure to work with when booking and throughout the stay. We hope to book it again next year!

Rustic Acadia Cabin Experience
This cabin worked well for our family of seven. We liked the location and the ease of getting to different parts of Acadia as well as proximity to Bar Harbor. It had its quirks and own personality but we weren’t looking for luxury accommodation.

Somes Sweet Sound
A quaint cottage with everything anyone could need while away not to mention very aesthetically pleasing. The house was all we needed and more. It was the cleanest rental - just spotless - cleanest one we have been in and I say that as experienced short term renters who have stayed in many diff places. Carl was such a joy to communicate with and always available when needed. Don't hesitate to book this gem for your trip to Acadia!

Great location! Fabulous house!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hyland Cottage. It is centrally located to everything on Mount Desert Island but away from the crowds and people. The cottage itself exceeded our expectations and provided plenty of room for our family after a day of hiking and seeing the sights. The pictures do not do this place justice. It is even nicer than it appears! Thank you for a great week in a beautiful place!

Quiet, serene location
The location was central to many trails and things to do. We had rain most of the week, but could still enjoy the beautiful view from the dining area while playing games. We did notice noise carries within the house. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking. The laundry area was very helpful for a rainy week. The deck is lovely though we had little time to enjoy it. Carl was very responsive when we had questions. We enjoyed the location very much!

If we could we would give it a 10!
6, 55+ women arrived to do some serious hiking. Check- mission accomplished! The place is so incredibly charming and has a well stocked kitchen. A great indoor fireplace and plenty of chairs inside and out. Great full kitchen table for meals and games. Location is away from busy Bar Harbor. Plenty of beds and not having to share a bed was great. Washer and dryer to use for after hiking trips was a bounce. Only thing i would improve on was some updated pillows. The place was just lovely!! We will be back for sure!

Perfect spot on MDI
This home was the perfect spot for our vacation week. The location was just what we wanted, close to everything, but tucked away. Most days we did something in Acadia NP in the morning, came back to the cottage for lunch and to relax, and went out exploring again in the afternoon. There were good food options in Southwest Harbor and several good hikes and destinations on the "quiet side" too. The house was really well-equipped and clean with everything we needed in the kitchen and elsewhere. It's an older home that's been recently redone and was really comfortable for two adults and two kids (ages 10 and 12). We would love to come back again some time!

Restful; perfect location. Quiet!
We stayed in the Hyland for one week. Not only well stocked; stocked with class. It is more than a true cottage. Centrally located so each area of interest on Desert Island could be reached with little effort. The deer do indeed show up; one day we had the buck and all. If you seek a restful place to come home to after a delightful day of hiking, shopping or driving, Hyland is the place to settle. The trail to the St Seveurs via the Ledge trail right off 102 and then onto the Valley Perch trail is breathtaking as one can see out onto the ocean from the end of Somes Sound. We would most definitely return!

Wonderful Cottage!
My family absolutely loved staying in Hyland Cottage! The rooms were set up perfect for our family of 6 (2 adults and kids ages ranged 2-8). The cottage is located very close to Echo Lake Beach and Southwest Harbor. It has a beautiful view of Somme Sound and a gorgeous large deck! We didn't spend a lot time in the cottage because we were out exploring, but it was a wonderful place to come back to after a busy day. It was VERY well stocked with anything that you can possibly need! Including rarely found items, such as dishwasher pods, Shout stain remover, plastic wrap, and so much more! The only thing that we had a hard time with is not having air conditioning because it was really warm when we were there, but I think that's normal for Maine! We are from the south so are used to air conditioning. The windows did have screens so we could open them and fans were provided to help air out the place since the attic got so hot during the day! The host was also very responsive and messaged to check in while we were there. Would definitely stay here again!

Great location! Amazing view!
Funny story before I go to the review... We rented Hyland Cottage to meet up with my sisters who also rented a cottage at Mount Desert Island. We all felt the pictures of our cottages looked very alike but for some odd reason, we never traded addresses. When we arrived, we realized we were neighbors for the week as they had the cottage right next to ours... We could not have planned it better if we had tried! The cottage was very nice and cosy. As another reviewer said the pictures do not quite do it justice. We had more than enough space for us and our kids. The cottage is well stocked and comfortably furnished. Hyland Cottage is a bit isolated as you need to drive 10-15 mins pretty much anywhere you want to go but it is totally worth it. Personal highlights for the week: Kayaking with my son on Long Pond. Family outings at the Echo Lake beach. Watching a sunset from the top of Mount Cadillac and watching the Perseid meteor shower in total darkness lying on the deck... :)

Everything we'd hoped for
My husband and three kids (8,6,&4) stay at Hyland Cottage in early June. We could not have asked for a better home or location for our trip - it was just as described. The cottage fit our family of 5 perfectly - the kids LOVED the upstairs loft. It was a perfect little nest for them and they continue to talk about it even now that we are home. The house was comfortable, but decorated very well (we felt like we could put our feet up and relax, but everything was so tasteful and not shabby!). The kitchen was well-equipped for lots of cooking. We worked quite a few puzzles, played games, read, ate meals on the deck that really does have an excellent view of Somes Sound. I was surprised by how quiet and secluded it was. Well off the main road, but still close enough to Acadia to make it an easy drive every day into the park. We loved how close it was to the Acadia Mtn. parking area (our favorite hike while we were there) and just minutes away from Southwest Harbor and restaurants/markets. I am ready to pencil in our trip for the summer of 2017 - we can't wait to go back. Working with Dunbar Realty was easy - they were prompt with all communication and the house was clean and immaculate upon arrival. Thanks for a great trip!!

This property is a wonderful retreat from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor and Acadia but close enough to jet in and out. The host was responsive to our questions, the cottage was cozy and clean. Exactly as advertised. Thanks for sharing your space!
