We were visiting Monterosso as part of a roadtrip through Italy. We got caught in traffic and realised we'd never make it to the hotel by the cut off check in time so we called the number provided which lead to a message in Italian. We tried for hours with no response, we even had local officers translate the message but they said it made no sense. We finally made it to the hotel worried that we'd be locked out but thankfully they'd read an email we sent and stayed open for us. So that was a pro, despite the fact that we received no response.
We were then taken to our room which isn't actually in the hotel but about 50 metres down the road. There are a number of stairs to reach the room so pack light (if you choose to stay here).
Whilst showering the water fills up so you're basically standing in a bath of your own filth. The hot water is scarce and runs out after about 10 minutes. The walls are very thin- everything can be heard from the other room, loud fridge. There were cracks in our walls which were hidden by a couple of paintings. One of our pillows smelt like mould. The air conditioner wasn't working so a portable one was installed meaning the window had to always be open for the exhaust to exit the room- letting insects in freely.
The reception staff were friendly and the greatest thing about this hotel is the location, as it's steps away from the beach. However, we read the reviews but chose not to believe them but now understand they aren't an exaggeration.
