A stylishly converted farmhouse close to Ronda with included daily housekeeping

El Tejar is the highest house in the small village of Montecorto, just 15 minutes from Ronda, with amazing panoramic views of the Grazalema mountains.

In High Season from March to October the property is only rented on a weekly basis with all rentals beginning and ending on Saturdays.

This exceptionally romantic house (featured in several interior design magazine) is decorated in Andalusian/Moroccan style. Whitewashed beams and terracotta floors have been stylishly combined with warm colour washes. There are hundreds of books, CD players in all rooms, a collection of beautiful paintings and prints as well as wifi internet (with desktop iMac). The 4 large bedrooms have the same bright/ethnic feel: linen is top range, mattresses too, and all are en suite.

A charming housekeeper, Francisca, cleans and tidies every day (if you so wish) and can prepare typical Andalusian meals. Sculpted into the hillside is a circular pool surrounded by terraces shaded by olive, almond and citrus trees. El Tejar is an exceptional holiday home - not just an ordinary villa - and perfect for a relaxing, secluded and spoiling holiday.

Included daily help: Two hours of daily cleaning help from a charming, and discreet Spanish maid is included in the weekly rental price.
(Occasionally guests prefer for Francisca not to come up to El Tejar to clean and tidy. No problem....).

What is so unique about El Tejar is that, if you should wish, the housekeeper can also prepare meals. She can either make you a wide range of 'tapas' for you or can cook a full 3 three course meal (this is for a minimum of 4 people) which will be served to you at your candlelit dining table or out on the dining terrace when the weather is warm enough.

Why is this place so exceptional?: What's so special about El Tejar is that although you're at the edge of the village, when you sit on the terraces or by the pool no other house is visible. You have the best of both worlds: easy access to village shops and bars and an utterly secluded location.

We believe we have the most comprehensive guest information of any rental property in the area which includes information on the best local bars and restaurants, where to visit, and detailed route notes of the area's most beautiful walks including our own guide books to the area (see Amazon.com: Guy Hunter-Watts 'Walking in Andalucia' and 'The Andalucían Coast to Coast Walk', Santana Books).

Renowned travel writer Alastair Sawday recently included El Tejar amongst his top ten favourite places to stay in Southern Spain and we've had features written about the house in several UK newspapers. We are also recommended as a rental property by i-escape, the award-winning travel website.

A bit more about the village and the area: Montecorto is a quiet, friendly village. There are a number of bars and restaurants including one in the pine forest where you can have al fresco meals. There will always be somebody who is keen to talk to you! There is a bakers, four small grocery stores - two of them provide baskets so you can pick things off the shelf, a useful thing for non-Spanish speakers - as well as a bank and chemists. A lot of the fruit and vegetables for sale in the village come from the fertile terraces beneath the village. If you prefer to shop in supermarkets, there are several choices in Ronda, just 15 minutes from El Tejar.

We provide arriving guests with a booklet listing our favourite bars and restaurants, interesting visits in the area, maps of the village, of Ronda and of the surrounding area, a history of the house and general information about the house. We have found that this little booklet really helps you get the most out of this beautiful area where we've lived for more than two decades.

COVID UPDATE
We will be following all the government's and regional tourist office's recommendations when it comes to health and safety.
You can rest assured that a stay at our villa will be an utterly safe stay.

Property beautiful and full off character. A lot of steps throughout so not suitable for anybody with mobility issues. Everything you need for cooking is there and plenty of dining areas. Property does not have air con , so house very warm but overall a fantastic experience. Montecorto a beautiful village .

An enchanting, stay in a beautiful, sprawling house
The house is more of a maze than the pictures can convey - in a good way. Lots of little nooks and charming spaces, many with wonderful views to the south. Guy was extremely helpful and communicative throughout, even finding a place we could rent a climbing rope (no mean feat!). We'd thoroughly recommend visiting.

Perfect House, Perfect Village
Utterly Superb. The House is idilic, quite large, but all the rooms are separated, so privacy for our grown girls! 3 terraces plus pool (!). Utterly stunning views. Daily visit by the charming maid (Pacqui)... but not intrusive. The owner emails regularly to check all is ok, but is discrete. Guy really went out of the way before and during our stay to make sure we would have everything we wanted, including organising work experience for one of our girls at a local stable for her university application. In all our years renting direct no other owner has been as helpful. The village is perfect. So beautiful and kept immaculate by the residents. 3 small supermarkets and two excellent cafe's/ bars selling tapas. The village is beautiful enough to be a tourist destination (all white, flowers, stream through the centre, blue shutters, pedestrian only).. but its not.. just you and the locals. The house is right on the edge... a short walk down the hill (4 mins??) to the cafe and shops.. or up the hill into the park. Will definitely return.

A family holiday in the Spanish hills
We have had a wonderful fortnight at El Tejar, Guy was great at communicating and has created a beautiful home. It is full of surprises, colours and shapes of Andalusia, lovely shaded places to sit and enjoy the beautiful views and the luxury of a pool to cool off in. Fully equipped, with the addition of table tennis and BBQ there was plenty to keep us occupied. We were able to enjoy the annual Fiesta in Montecorto with bands and flamenco dancing and visit many of the other local villages, each unique and special.

Family get-together
We absolutely loved our stay at El Tejar! The property oozes charm and style. The furnishings offer full home comforts, from the art on the walls, to the rugs, the books and the subtle lighting in and outside the property. It is a place of utter tranquility nestled in the shade of the pine trees behind the house, but with beautiful vistas to the far hills, framed by the lush planting surrounding the property and pool. We particularly enjoyed the new table tennis table! All this plus the cycling, walking and horse riding available nearby. Pacqui the housekeeper and Deborah the chef both provided services that elevated our stay to one of sublime relaxation.

Charming, homely village house
This was our second stay at this property, having first visited in 2019 and it was just as lovely as we had remembered it. The house is so charming and characterful. When we arrived the area was in the midst of a heatwave with temperatures of 45C+, which made it uncomfotably warm at night. When we asked about getting additional fans to help us sleep, the owner Guy was very responsive and helpful. The pool was also a very welcome refuge from the heat and after a couple of days the heatwave passed and temperatures returned to normal. The village of Montecorto is also charming and characterful. There were a handful of tourists but it is a very long way indeed from being a tourist trap (despite the new illuminated town sign which brings a little touch of Las Vegas to the village!) The village is a great base for exploring the Ronda area and the Sierra de Grazalema and the house guide is full of good recommendations for things to do and places to eat. Thanks to the guide we found a great tapas bar in Ronda - Bar Mateo - serving inventive tapas with a modern twist.

Absolutely stunning
El Tejar was a perfect place for our New Year's week break - 8 people. The house is a rustic Spanish-Moroccan style which we loved and the views are breathtaking. The excellent weather meant that even in winter we were able to have breakfast outside every day. We enjoyed beautiful walks in the surrounding mountains, trips to Seville and Ronda and family time at home with cosy log fires and dinners. I cannot recommend El Tejar enough. Guy is a wonderful owner who was on hand to answer and questions as well as greeting us with wine and stories.

Wonderful charming and peaceful
The villa is wonderfully situated with exceptional views over the hills. The villa is charmingly rustic and peaceful with lots of different places to sit and enjoy the scenery and get away from each other if you want to! All 4 bedrooms have en suites which was great. Beds comfy and villa clean thanks to the lovely Paqui who comes in daily. She also made us a lovely paella one evening. The pool was clean and welcome in the exceptionally hot weather we enjoyed. Plenty to do and see roundabout. Walking, visiting Ronda, the cave drawings, the olive factory, the wineries. A happy and memorable stay.

Three weeks in this beautiful house in an idyllic setting was just what we needed. Delightful!
We stayed here for 3 weeks in July/Aug and loved every minute It was also exceptionally good value for us as a family as different family members joined us for short periods over this time. Montecorto is simply the most beautiful, small town with the sound of the water flowing through it adding to its charm. The people were most welcoming and friendly. The house is perched high up at the top of the town with magnificent views across the valley. El Tejar is a very old property full of period charm and quirkiness - if you are looking for clean lines and perfection - this house is not for you - but if you are a lover of character, warmth and history you will love it. The house is equipped with everything you need for a perfect stay. Guy responds immediately to any inquiries or requests and Pacqui, the local lady who pops in daily to ensure everything is ok and to tidy a little, means that you are never far from support if needed. There are 4 ensuite doubles, (2 twins and 2 double beds) each with their own charm. There is ample storage in each room and the showers were excellent. There is a TV and DVD player (I suggest you bring a few discs- especially if you have younger children). The WiFi is excellent close to source in the kitchen dining area but less so as you move out of range. There are 100s if books to read. The pool, gardens and outdoor space around the house are exceptionally beautiful providing lots of places to sit and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. We often cooked our own meals or alternatively walked into town (5 min) or sometimes drove the 20 minutes to Ronda for more choice of restaurant. Pacqui also cooked us some lovely dishes during our stay. There are lots of levels and steps both inside the house and in town so it is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The air conditioning was provided by fans in each bedroom. These were more than adequate for the majority of our stay but we did experience some extreme heat for a few days when it was very difficult to get cool. I absolutely loved my time at El Tejar and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for peace, a beautiful, welcoming and comfortable home to enjoy. There are many walks surrounding the house that my husband enjoyed while I lay by the pool! It takes around 1 hour 40 minutes to get to from Malaga - and it is worth the drive. Thanks Helen

Great holiday in a property of rustic charm.
Great holiday in a beautiful part of the world staying in a characterful property in a lovely water-filled village. Lots of places to visit in the surrounding area, and the rural village had several pleasant restaurants and shops on the doorstep. The property was very good value and has great rustic appeal. It is spread over many levels with stairs that might challenge people with real mobility issues, and although some of the facilities were a little basic, it was a great and beautiful place to stay in a marvellous setting. And we loved playing in the pool.

Brilliant place to stay - A great place for Exploring or Chilling
Where to start? From our initial inquiry through to arrival, the owner (Guy) has been quick, accurate and super helpful in helping us enjoy our week break at Montecorto. Its a little tricky to find when you first get to Montecorto - but that's because its such a small, narrow street-ed, pretty, white village. You'll find it - the directions given are correct! We went in mid July - and it was hot in Spain the week we were there - but the villa is a relief from the outside heat. There's no AC - but it's not needed. Plenty of shade and plenty of breeze. A small pool helped keep us cool as well. Small pool - but enough room for the 8 of us - and enough room around the pool to comfortably seat us all. The 8 of us stayed in 4 double rooms - each room unique - and each room really charming. All had their own loos and baths which incorporated welcome showers. Plenty of comfortable room to sit around on - inside and (more importantly) outside Kitchen was well equipped - we needed nothing - although we didn't cook in at all - only breakfast etc. There's plenty of places to eat / drink in the town Guy also sends in some help each day to do a little cleaning, and to keep the place looking tip-top. That was a nice touch. Overall - absolutely no problems - and no disappointments. I'd go back again. Thanks Guy Richard

A Slice of Heaven!
Very difficult to know where to begin in describing the virtues of this house. The architecture itself is a terrific example of the vernacular and takes wonderful advantage of the site, climbing up the mountain in levels that give every room wonderful views and allows for multiple terraces and stairs. The pool with its fountain is clean and cool, even on a very hot day. The bedrooms are ample with private bathrooms that are simple and handsome, with exposed timber and pitched roofs and arches everywhere. Paqui's cooking is excellent. What a treat to have a meal prepared for you and your friends, so that after a day out, you can relax on the terrace (after taking a swim and sharing a bottle of wine). In fact you can simply reach up into the arbor above you and snip off a clump of tasty grapes if it's August. Around the corner from the house are two fig trees for dessert! Montecorto is a sweet village, close to Ronda but in tourist season you're glad not to be too close. My merry band of friends and I had a wonderful time.

Unique, beautiful and stylish.
A wonderful home, with everything you need for a fantastic holiday. This is a lovely large four bedroomed house, right on the edge of Montecorto village, with all its charm. El Tejar is a fantastic place to stay and relax, we enjoyed the cool interior, and the pool for lazy afternoons.

Beautiful location
We had a wonderful holiday in Montecorto. The entire area is stunning this time of year, and the house has a beautiful garden. The kitchen could use an update: it was always crawling with ants because the counters/cupboards are not properly sealed. Great information from the owner about the area.

A great Spanish experience
Beautiful scenery, tastefully decorated and set in a quintessential Andulucian village, this was perfect to come home to after exploring the sights of Ronda, Seville and Granada. The famous white villages and the village itself were worth exploring. Pity that we were only there for a week...
