Super review from returning guests:

"Thank you so much for everything, La Petite Pommeraie is such a special place, we all had a wonderful break!"
Donna & Scott B, July 2024

The views across the countryside will take your breath away. This traditional & spacious Charentaise farmhouse gite is located in South West France! Set in the rural countryside of the wonderful Charente region of France, on the border of the Dordogne, this French 'longere' farmhouse easily sleeps 10 guests in five bedrooms and includes a private pool with its own auvent (covered dining area) barbecue facilities - ideal for families, friends or couples wanting space and time to relax and take time out.
All the double rooms have kingsize beds, with one of these rooms being en-suite.

Embrace the slower pace of life, meander through sleepy villages, vineyards, cafes and winding rivers.

"Fabulous Three Generations Family Holiday
A wonderful well equipped holiday home in a stunning location. Wendy was extremely helpful from the booking in process right through to the holiday and even purchased a bike seat for our granddaughter so that she could join us on our bike rides. Everyone was catered for with the use of bikes, table football, pool table, outdoor and indoor games and much more. The pool was a great hit with all the family. We explored the local area and found plenty to see and do. We can thoroughly recommend the restaurant in Montboyer and also Creperie de la Source in Aubeterre. "Stunning house in an idyllic location ........" - review from August 2018.

"Superb experience from start to finish ......." - review from August 2018.

Our lovely French farm house offers traditional features, a rustic feel and is furnished in a simple and comfortable style. Fresh cotton bedding and fresh white towels to make guests feel at home and a well equipped kitchen in order to prepare and eat fresh local food.

And then there are the wonderful views of the Charentaise countryside of South West France - from the terrace, from the house and from the pool. Watch the sun come up over the old lime tree, take in the fields of sunflowers, corn and maize. Then in the evening sunsets to amaze you as you relax by the pool.

The house is a detached 'longere' farmhouse and has a HEATED PRIVATE POOL (in ground, 8m x 4m, heated by solar panels, with sole use) with an auvent and barbecue area. A bright and airy kitchen/dining room leads onto a raised terrace with panoramic views of the rural countryside, where you can sit and relax. There are large areas of lawn and a selection of fruit trees, including apples (Pommeraie means "apple orchard"), cherries, fig, nectarines etc. There are trees in the terrace garden to provide just one of many places to sit in the shade and enjoy the view ..... and a hammock hidden away in the orchard. This beautiful farmhouse sleeps 10 guests across five bedrooms: all double rooms have kingsize beds and two with single/twin beds. (One of the twin rooms can be made into a kingsize bed by zipping the beds together. Please ask if. you would like us to do this.)

One of the bedrooms is very large with en-suite facilities, with its own coffee or tea making facilities.

There are travel cots available on request if required.

The kitchen/dining room is spacious with a large farm house table, ample storage, a cooker & hob, larder fridge with freezer and dishwasher and is very well equipped for cooking for all the family. There is a large ceiling fan to keep the room cool.
Amongst other kitchen appliances, there is a Delonghi coffee machine so you can enjoy coffee and croissant on the terrace. There is a separate laundry room with a washing machine and an additional freezer and a microwave.
There is a large sitting room with comfy sofas, Sky TV and access to the terrace - cool and airy in the heat of the summer and cosy by the woodburner on cooler spring and autumn evenings.
There is a pool table & table football in the games room.
There is a family bathroom with bath, separate shower & electric towel rail. In addition there is a shower room with an electric towel rail.
There is air-con or heating available in the bedrooms if required.
Renovated early in 2015, we then relocated the kitchen to the centre of the farmhouse in 2018 - you can see how this lovely house has a welcoming warmth and lots of character.
We welcome enquiries, as we realise it is important to know as much as possible when planning a week or two in France. Please do drop us an email or give us a call if you need more information, a plan of the rooms, further details of the surrounding area. There are plenty of photos on this site, together with a couple of videos showing the unique location of this house and its pool.

The house is situated on the Charente/Dordogne border - a great base for visiting the surrounding region: Bordeaux to the south west, La Rochelle to the north west, Bergerac to the south and also Perigieux and the gorges near Sarlat to the south east.

Please note - if booking instantly we prefer a arrival and departure is on a Saturday. If you need to check days and dates, please send us a message. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you.

A fantastic place to relax and unwind
We eventually got out holiday in Montboyer, after COVID scuppered our 2020 plans, and it was definitely worth the wait! Wendy and Simon were brilliant with all their information and communications for our trip. We were a three generation group plus a dog, and we found the house, pool and gardens accommodated us all very well. The house is spacious and airy, and very well equipped. It's a very peaceful setting, with a wonderful views. We really did relax and unwind. We visited some great local villages, markets and restaurants in the surrounding area. We've stayed in many holiday houses in France and would definitely recommend this one; we'd all love to return.

Fabulous Family Celebrations
Our holiday was booked a year ago giving us time to make arrangements for our family to join in my 60th Birthday celebrations. During these unprecedented times due to Covid19 our plans took many twists and turns. Wendy and Simon could not have been more flexible and understanding right up until our day of travel when quarantine restrictions where placed on travel to France. We decided to carry on regardless. We went with high hopes and expectations. We were not disappointed. The house and grounds were even better in reality. We were a party of 9 ranging in age from 3 to 60. There was plenty of space for everyone to join in together yet you could still find a quiet spot if you wanted. The pool area and views are fabulous. The quality of furniture and kitchen equipment were great. We thoroughly recommend this beautiful holiday home in its peaceful location.

Peaceful bliss
We had a fabulous holiday! The house is very well equipped, there is nothing more that we could have wished for. The space is very tranquil and while we relaxed outside looking at the fabulous views, the majority of what We heard was birds song. It was lovely. The house has enough room so that we can all spread out and not be on top of each other which made it easy to all be together for the length of time. We will definitely be returning!!

Stunning house in an idyllic location
We have just come home from a fantastic week at la petite pommeraie, it was just amazing. The house is set in the quaint village of montboyer which has a lovely restaurant and bakery. The house itself it beautiful, it was been nicely decorated and is well equipped with everything you would need. The swimming pool was used on a daily basis and was a much needed relief from the heat. The views were stunning and the tranquility was lovely. There is lots to do in the surrounding areas too. We will definetly visit here again and almost don’t want to tell people how stunning it is to keep it just for us!

A lovely relaxing stay in a beautiful property in a beautiful location....
We had an amazing stay at Montboyer, the property and the area are both stunning and we can't wait to return and bring some of our family back next year at some point, we had such a lovely relaxing time, the house is so well equipped with everything needed for a lovely stay a real home away from home, the pictures don't do the house justice it is lovely with a lovely large lounge, games room and kitchen/diner and so much space in general, the outside area is lovely and the views are beautiful, thank you, Kerri, Dan, Lilly and Bailey xx

Beautiful home in the Charente
The photos of this house do not do it justice. There is a huge kitchen diner which is very well equipped. There are two lounges, one has the wi fi router and table football, the other is a very comfortable sitting area with television (not that we watched it as far too many other things to do. ). The swimming pool area is lovely with an undercover area to sit in should it be hot or even rain. The train going by in the distance is very novel and did not cause us any problems. We had some lovely walks in the evening and had a great meal at the Bistro in Montboyer. The local boulangerie is a must. All in all would highly recommend

Lovely house with superb pool and views
We stayed for 2 weeks, its really well equipped and incredibly spacious. The view from the heated pool was amazing, spent many an hour in there. The barn/bbq area is lovely we used it every night. The air conditioning in every room is great especially when it gets very hot. There are lovely towns within a few minutes drive and lots to see/do for days out. I can't think of anything else that you would need, we'll be back at some point......

Great location and good value for money
This property is located in a lovely shallow valley, and is surrounded by countryside making it very private. There is a train line in the valley, however this adds to the charm, it almost looks like a model railway; trains passing do not provide disruption to the peace. Family members spent many hours just resting by the pool in the hot sun, or in the shaded hammock watching the birds, insects and the odd train pass by, and then taking a dip in the private pool. The property was much larger than we expected, and features a further sitting room that was not mentioned at the time of booking within the property description. The kitchen was well equipped, we managed to cook for six people comfortably, albeit a few additional sharp knives and glasses would have been useful on occasion. All the appliances were clean, in good working order and are easy to use. In the pool house, there is a BBQ and a further fridge, and a covered dining area that provides a place for adults to sit, drink, eat and chat while watching over the children’s safety while they play in the pool. The air-conditioning in the bedrooms and kitchen was very welcome during some of the hot nights. The broadband internet is provided via the mobile network over a 3G dongle, this means that it is quite limited – however, this should be expected in rural France. There is Sky TV installed with UK channels, which provided some entertainment and allowed us to keep up to date with current affairs if required. In an outside storage area there are three adult bikes, and two children’s bikes (ages 8 – 14). The brilliant white towels and bed linen provided were crisp and clean; the towels were replaced midway through. No pool towels are provided. The pool was attended to midway through, the water was clear and not heavily chlorinated. Any issues that we raised with the owner were resolved quickly and amicably. We would recommend, with caveats; holidays are a subjective experience, and people have different tastes, standards and requirements for furnishings/amenities, entertainment and activities – for our family the location, privacy and peace and quiet was perfectly relaxing, and we would consider returning. Overall we felt that the property represented good value for money. Chalalis, the local large town is lovely, and easy to navigate to. We would recommend a visit to Montboyer to the Bar Restaurant, the meals are very good value for money at 13 EUR for 3 courses including wine.

Amazing property with breathtaking views!
We had such an amazing holiday here, so many thanks to Wendy for letting us stay and for being so helpful in the run up. The property itself was so spacious, it had a lovely tranquil and cool feel about it, and came supplied with everything you could need. We enjoyed many a lazy breakfast or lunch just gazing from the terrace at the amazing view. The pool was really quite warm and we enjoyed the same stunning view whilst relaxing by the pool. Even our 5 year said one of the best things was the view (if we could get her out of the pool long enough to look)! The boulangerie was another highlight of the holiday, so it was a shame that they were closed for their holiday during the second week of stay. Croissants, bread, sweet treats and white wine were all delicious. My partner enjoyed the early morning stroll down the lane to get the supplies, and I think it made him feel like he had then earnt what he had bought! We had great days out at Aubeterre (great lunches at La Taverne). The lakes at Brossac and La Jemaye (south of Riberac) continued the swimming theme for our daughter but just provided a change of scene from the pool. All in all, we had an amazing holiday in an amazing property in a beautiful part of France. Hopefully we shall be lucky enough to return.

Highly recommended
What a lovely spot to spend a holiday ! We were only there for a week, which definitely wasn't long enough. The weather got better and better through the week, so we were very grateful for the gorgeous pool - a personal highlight was swimming early in the morning before anyone else was up, just to the sound of birdsong, when the pool was steaming as it was warmer than the morning air ! We would recommend the croissants and pain au chocolat from the Boulangerie in Montboyer - an easy cycle ride on the bike to collect those in the morning. Also a visit to the amazing restaurant at the Hotel du Perigord in Aubeterre - the most delicious steak ! Le Petit Pommerai is full of charm and character, but is also really well equipped. It was immaculately clean and everything is obviously very well looked after. Very comfortable beds, with lovely crisp cool sheets - air conditioning and mosquito nets - a fantastic barbeque up by the pool - even a hammock away from the house on the edge of the orchard, and plenty of cooking equipment. We've stayed in a lot of French houses, and even with fussy teenage children this house worked really well. The huge TV with all the English channels also worked for a sport mad husband during Wimbledon ! The owners have obviously put a lot of thought into this house - we would definitely recommend it, and will be returning there.

Location, location, location!
Firstly the house was lovely, had everything you could need. Pool lovely, view lovely, weather....not so good but got better as the week went on. When the sun was out, we spent most of the time outside by the pool, at the table or just looking at the view. Very easy rental procedure. Fridge broke down while we were there and this was dealt with very quickly by Wendy so we were assured that any problems, would not be a problem! Explored local restaurants. Without doubt the Cafe des Halles in Montboyer was worth every penny, 16 euros for a three course meal for example and great service. Dog friendly as well. However if you have the money and need entertaining, go to the Chateau Chalais restaurant. Surreal surroundings, eclectic food and eccentric owner. Fawlty Towers french style. All in all we had a great time and would recommend a stay at this lovely property.

Spectacular surroundings but unfortunately didn’t live up to our expectations.
There’s no doubting that the views are spectacular even taking the frequent trains into consideration which seem to run nearly 24 hours a day and can be heard inside the house, while the house is a good size the furnishings and equipment inside and out are either basic or have seen better days, there are 3 sunbeds 1 of which was broken (no wheels) and only 2 cushions for them, the 3 worn lounger chairs seem to be used as weights to keep the plastic grass by the pool from blowing away - difficult to keep the pool clean as the pool cover doesn't fully close as the steps are in the way - the pool was cleaned on the day we arrived and once again during a 18 night stay, the grass wasn’t cut at all during the time we were there which made the property look untidy, when we arrived the shutters were banging in the wind with some hanging off their fixings which had to be removed by the caretaker, the kitchen roof leaked in the rain on to the table. We were provided with 1 hand and 1 bath towel each for the entire stay and no change of linen midstay we only had 2 pillows on the double and the kingsize metal frame beds which weren't the most comfortable, there are no wardrobes in any of the bedrooms just peg rails to hang your clothes on, the kingsize room does not have a window and it can feel like you are sleeping in a cupboard especially with your clothes hanging on the walls. The appliances were basic with an electric oven/grill a three ring electric hob, the washing machine door has to be lifted to close and the freezer lid has wonky hinges. there wasn't any baking sheets so we had to buy a couple along with steak knives the BBQ was dirty. The internet is VERY limited we were there 18 nights and it didn’t work at all for the first 10 days we had it for 2 days after a replacement sim card was fitted then we had it for a very short time for the last couple of days. So if like us you use the internet to search for local places to visit, directions, opening times, weather reports, keeping in touch with family etc. be aware that this may not be possible, I was never informed how much data I was Allowed even though I asked the owner and caretaker - all the time I was without internet I thought there was a fault, I had to use a modest amount of mobile data which the owner has only refunded half of. We would suggest Spend some money - carry out the work needed and you would have a lovely comfortable holiday home where paying guests would feel more welcome.
