This property is located in a lovely shallow valley, and is surrounded by countryside making it very private. There is a train line in the valley, however this adds to the charm, it almost looks like a model railway; trains passing do not provide disruption to the peace. Family members spent many hours just resting by the pool in the hot sun, or in the shaded hammock watching the birds, insects and the odd train pass by, and then taking a dip in the private pool. The property was much larger than we expected, and features a further sitting room that was not mentioned at the time of booking within the property description. The kitchen was well equipped, we managed to cook for six people comfortably, albeit a few additional sharp knives and glasses would have been useful on occasion. All the appliances were clean, in good working order and are easy to use. In the pool house, there is a BBQ and a further fridge, and a covered dining area that provides a place for adults to sit, drink, eat and chat while watching over the children’s safety while they play in the pool. The air-conditioning in the bedrooms and kitchen was very welcome during some of the hot nights. The broadband internet is provided via the mobile network over a 3G dongle, this means that it is quite limited – however, this should be expected in rural France. There is Sky TV installed with UK channels, which provided some entertainment and allowed us to keep up to date with current affairs if required. In an outside storage area there are three adult bikes, and two children’s bikes (ages 8 – 14). The brilliant white towels and bed linen provided were crisp and clean; the towels were replaced midway through. No pool towels are provided. The pool was attended to midway through, the water was clear and not heavily chlorinated. Any issues that we raised with the owner were resolved quickly and amicably. We would recommend, with caveats; holidays are a subjective experience, and people have different tastes, standards and requirements for furnishings/amenities, entertainment and activities – for our family the location, privacy and peace and quiet was perfectly relaxing, and we would consider returning. Overall we felt that the property represented good value for money.
Chalalis, the local large town is lovely, and easy to navigate to. We would recommend a visit to Montboyer to the Bar Restaurant, the meals are very good value for money at 13 EUR for 3 courses including wine.
