Situated on one of the only sand-bottom rivers in the entire world, and nearby to the world's largest Airforce base, the world's whitest beaches, and the freest place in the world to be, this beautifully decorated, private 3/2 home is a fully stocked, mid-century revival, thoughtfully curated by Steve Morris Designs. Whether seeking peace, or seeking diversion, this property can conveniently deliver both, as we welcome all the world's travelers, and their family and friends.
Seemingly frozen in time, this 1-story 1967 home had been meticulously preserved by the original family, pilots by profession, headed by a matriarch that, at 80-something years old, was still independently taking to the skies. In late 2021 she took the last flight out, and the house was put on the market, all its perfectly preserved love and elbow grease, an eager preservation surprise awaiting its next owner! How fortunate then, that its new keepers are designers by trade!
With an affinity for mid-60s design, the new proprietors shined it up, and topped it off with all brand new, true to the era furniture. Fun, bright accents highlight an ambience that feels both cozy and spacious, at the same time, harmoniously nostalgic and fresh.
The property is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood comprised of large parcels of single-family, waterfront bliss. The backyard opens up into the deep waters of Annie's Cove on the Blackwater River, a waterway navagable by kayak or ship.
As we broaden our focus from the property and its exact points of interest, we can begin to develop a sense of the local culture, only to have the understanding be further reinforced as you venture out. You'll come to find that while Santa Rosa County feels like a hiden gem, it's been the gem of America for quite some time now, but maybe not in the way you were thinking!
The Florida Panahandle has long been home to a number of military bases- Eglin Air Force Base, Tyndall Air Force Base, Hurlburt Field, Whiting Field, Saufley Field, and NAS Pensacola, and all of these bases have the exciting focus on avaiation. Military aviation is the pride and lifeblood of what locals sometimes jokingly (and lovingly) refer to as UCLA (the Upper Corner of Lower Alabama). It should be a less scary surprise then, to realize that the next town over, Gulf Breeze, FL, is considered to be the UFO capital of the world. Surely most of the panic is born of confusion, as we come to learn that this county has some of the heaviest air traffic in the world. Or is it? This is always up for speculation and debate, as well, it is meant to serve as a notification to guests that aren't particularly local. They may be unaware and possibly alarmed by potential sounds of different types of military aviation training, but if you happen to be lucky enough to catch it, do not be alarmed. It is probably not aliens.
Let's not forget to mention some fun, extra nearby features aside from the river-
Prince Aviation Field is less than a mile away, for aviation enthusiasts. Within the same vicinity is a fantastic brick path for walking, running, or biking. It's chock full of history- the Old Florida SR-1 Old Brick Road- and it's right down the road from the house. Travel a little farther and you have a nostalgic U-Pick Blueberry Farm, and a quaint but lively downtown with regular family-friendly community sponsored events.
We recommend visiting the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. It's a captivating experience whether you know everything about aviation, or you know nothing. And it's free.
The property is located in a rural part of East Milton, Florida. As the pictures show, the house sits about 50 yards from the Blackwater River and about 150 yards from the road, with large trees all around the property. It has a very quiet, secluded feel to it, almost like you're camping out in the woods.
