This hotel was very nice, the staff was always helpful and courteous. It is a beautiful historic building which they have preserved its uniqueness and beauty, but it doesn't have any of the modern amenities. If you are on the second floor, be ready to do some good exercise by climbing the steps several times a day as you need it. The main building doesn't have central A/C, and it stays for the most part cool, but Merida is extremely hot. The rooms have an AC unit, but our room's a/c didn't work well.
We liked the convenient location, just a block from Central Park where most of the activity is happening. Lots of restaurants, coffee shops, and shops.
