Your new secret hideaway is a beautifully appointed traditional log cabin conveniently located right off of Highway 58 in the Meadows of Dan, only one mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is placed in an idyllic setting at 3,000' elevation on a southern-facing slope overlooking woods and lush wildflower meadows bordering the headwaters of the Dan River as it flows toward historic Cockram Mill in the distance. This elegantly furnished cabin has two bedrooms, a spacious bath with seated shower, and an open great room under a high vaulted ceiling. A stone hearth with a gas log fireplace sets the scene for cozy romantic evenings, intimate family gatherings and quiet contemplation.
This lovely retreat can sleep up to six people, with a king-size bed in the master bedroom and a queen-size bed and full-size futon in the upper loft bedroom. All linens and bedding are provided. Although authentically rustic in structure, this solidly-built cabin offers full contemporary comforts: central heat/air, washer/dryer, dishwasher, electric stove, microwave, refrigerator with ice maker, WiFi, and two Roku televisions (in great room and loft bedroom) equipped with cable vision and Blu-ray players. The well-appointed kitchen comes stocked with basic coffee supplies and an assortment of condiments. Paper products for kitchen and bath, along with dish and hand soap are provided. Land line telephone service is available for local and 800 number calls.
Enjoy mountain views and fresh breezes on the full-length covered back porch equipped with Amish bentwood rockers and a cushioned porch swing. This is a spot where you can quietly curl up with a book, gather with friends and family, and cook delicious meals on a gas grill (propane provided).
A short walk down the hill takes you into colorful, wildflower and butterfly-filled meadows along the Dan River, a small fishing pond (bass and catfish) and the historic Cockram Mill (The Mill is slated for a near-future restoration and will be open to the public as a premier microbrewery cafe).
There are tons of close by parks and sites of interest to explore, many accessible via the Blue Ridge Parkway, that offer sightseeing, hiking, trail walking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, golf, and much more. Among these are historic Mabry Mill, Fairy Stone State Park, Rocky-Knob Recreation Area, Buffalo Mountain Natural Area Preserve, and Lover's Leap Overlook. A short drive away, the quaint mountain towns of Meadows of Dan, Stuart, Floyd, and Mt. Airy are prime destinations for groceries, local farm produce, family-owned restaurants, antiques, and unique collectibles. Nearby Primland Resort (with a spectacular golf course), Chateau Morrisette Winery and Villa Appalachia Winery offer a range of fine dining options and a sumptuous array of locally-produced wines. For the more daring, there is Buffalo Mountain Zipline Park about 15 minutes away!
