The best advice I can offer, is to arrive with food. If your arrival is like mine was, late in the evening, there is nothing open near or far until things start to open about 9 am the next morning. The little shop on the property has a decent selection of foodnyou can cook, and snacks, and the prices seemed comparable to the grocery store in Kaunakaki, 30 minutes drive. I loved exploring the island. There had been much rain and flooding so some areas were closed, or just not good idea to go off road. Expect to be back to your room by the time it is dark because businesses will be closing, and the axis deer and other wildlife on the roads can be hazardous.
It is beautiful island, with lovely people. Come with a sense of adventure, slow down, and be a respectful guest.
