About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

💲Happy Beach Casa - View the Gulf

You can't beat the view of the Gulf waves from this 2 br - 2 bath second row beach property . This rental is for the entire upstairs unit, which includes a huge deck and enclosed sun porch. You won't believe the gorgeous sunrises as you take in your morning coffee on the sun porch or deck as you prepare to start your day. The sunsets from the deck are awe-inspiring too as is the view of the area surrounding the east bay from the rear of the deck.

Matagorda is THE get away from everyone and everything place! It's a laid-back beach community offering both the Colorado River and the Gulf of Mexico with two large bays to play in also. This is a fisherman's paradise. And, also a beach combers dream with 27 miles of beach to check out - you can drive on the beach and take your pets - you just need to purchase a beach pass first.

The house is brightly painted inside just as a beach rental should be and has a large deck and a shared fenced-in yard for pets. Sitting on two lots, there is plenty of space for you, your family and friends and all your water toys.

The items that set this rental apart from others in the area are it offers two bathrooms, 1,100 square feet, an enclosed sun porch, a huge deck and a fenced back yard. Think of the back yard as a dog park as it is a shared space with the downstairs unit where I live.

There is a picnic table, and small grill downstairs. You will need to provide charcoal. The front porch is a shared space.

Upstairs Bedroom 1: Queen size bed
Upstairs Bedroom #2: One twin-size bunk bed and a single twin bed (Sleeps 3)

We have beds for 5 people. The fee for additional guests is $25 per person per night. The house has a septic system so we do not like to host more than 7 people. Larger groups and events must be specifically approved. Adding additional guests or having an event at the property without prior approval are grounds for termination of the rental agreement.

The whole home is two units -one upstairs and one downstairs. This rental is for the upstairs unit. The entry, parking and backyard are shared spaces.

The upstairs unit has two parking spaces in front of the house - in front of the third and fourth bays to the east.

Immediately upon entering the home, you will be in a foyer - the light for the entry is just past the door on your right and, the light for the top portion of the stairs is to your left on the first landing of the stairs.

I provide one roll of toilet paper for each bathroom and one roll of paper towels for each kitchen. There is one trash bag provided for each trash can. Please plan to bring enough of these staples for your stay.

There is a traditional Mr. Coffee-style coffeemaker. There is also a Keurig. You will need to provide your own coffee and filters. I have left a small amount of basic spices and there are kitchen utensils, dishes, silverware, cookware and some small appliances - all pretty basic. If you are planning on gourmet cooking, I recommend bringing your special gear.

Event note: An event is defined as having more than 5 guests in the home for ANY length of time. Additional guests strains the septic system and adds to the utility costs. I do not allow events in my rental space. Bringing additional guests beyond 5 is grounds for immediate termination of the rental agreement. Please communicate your plans in advance to avoid these types of issues.

There are two cameras on the property. One is the smart doorbell. There is another downstairs on the porch that covers the front porch, front door and parking areas.

There is a washer and dryer available for guest use. You’ll need to bring laundry supplies - liquid HE detergent ONLY.It is shared with the downstairs unit where I live. I ask that guests limit laundry use to one load per day and please leave the laundry basket by the machine as I don’t mind switching it out for you in case you get distracted having fun 🤩.

Please note: small dogs will be able to find their way out of the fenced in yard. Large dogs who like to dig will have no trouble creating a hole in this sandy soil. Please keep an eye on your pets. The dog yard is shared so please do not leave pets unattended in the yard. Think of it as a dog park. No more than 2 dogs are allowed. There is an extra fee for more than one dog of $15 per night. There is no fee for one pet.

We offer high-speed WiFi and Netflix. We do not have cable, a dishwasher or central air and heat. We do have window units that work really well. Step back from your every day life and enjoy some simpler days.

I work hard to keep my rental rates affordable. Please do not leave doors or windows open with heaters or ACs running. The home is cooled and heated by window HVAC units. If you are going in and out frequently, this will impact the home’s heating and cooling efficiency. Please see the note on the fridge for detailed instructions on keeping the upstairs heated/cooled. If you are someone who like a super cold environment, this is not the right space for you. Window units suck a lot of electricity! In the afternoon, the kitchen/living room temperature will not get below about 76. This is the time of day, I like to be on the beach or take a nap in one of the bedrooms. I ask that guests do not set the AC units below 72 degrees . I also ask that guests raise the temperature on the bedroom units to 76 when you are out of the home. This helps keep the rental rates low for everyone.

No bait or fish in refrigerators or freezers, please.

M is for Matagorda and Mosquitoes. Those pests can be viscous here when there is not a breeze. We do spray the property regularly but you should plan to bring your bug spray and use it liberally. Matagorda is a rural, undeveloped area. Expect to see some bugs. Scorpions also occasionally make their way into the home - be alert for them.

Any problems, such as repairs needed or missing items, must be relayed to the owner upon arrival.

I want to earn your five-star review so please let me know if there’s anything I can do to improve your stay. And contact me with any questions of anything at all you need. I’m just downstairs should you need anything at all. I’m pretty laid back and work hard to stay out of my guests’ way. I want people to have a great time. Please play music and dance, if you like. It’s your vacation and I want you all to have fun. Not much phases me as long as my house is taken care of. My number one goal is for you to have a great trip.

I’m social if you wish to interact. I write for a living from home so you might not see me very much unless I’m enjoying my outdoor space on the front porch or doing yard work. But I am available should you need anything at all.

Thank you!

First to Stay After Beryl
We booked this property in May for a family of 4 and two small dogs. As our check-in day approached, so did Hurricane Beryl. Lisa, our host, was in communication with us days before landfall. We were able to reschedule to a few days later and have a really nice stay in Gorda. The house was clean and comfortable. She made sure we had everything we needed. :) While we were just a short walk over the dunes from the shore, we opted to drive and access the beach from Dunes Drive or the Visitor Center parking lot to avoid the mosquitoes. We hunted shells, built castles, boogie boarded, and fished. Castle building and boogie board were actually at the house already for our use. Overall, we had a really pleasant stay, and our host was kind, attentive, and patient with the shifting circumstances of shifting a booking around a hurricane. 💜

I have been traveling to Matagorda beach for many years. And it is the first property that I did not like. The house is old and everything smells bad, the house is shared with the host or owner, you don't feel comfortable or free to come and go, because she is always watching, you don't feel comfortable making noise. It is the same price as a single and complete house. I actually don't recommend that place. and they never return the deposit.

Hippy Beach House
This property served our needs. It was pleasant and although living downstairs and sharing a foyer our host and property owner stayed to herself. We should have paid more attention to the line in description stating that the main living/dining/kitchen space would never get lower than 76 degrees. This is because there is no dedicated AC window unit for that area. It is cooled by fans and the bedroom window units. All in all even with temps in the 90's it was tollerable. It is likely the lower rental price is because of this. It is decorated in beach decorations and adequate. Just tired. Unfortunatley Lisa, the host had been traveling prior to our arrival so AC units had been off for a while when we arrived. It was very musty and took three hours for AC units to recover. This definitely soured our initial experience. We recovered as well and ultimatley enjoyed our stay.

Nice property
There were some bumps on this trip, but not due to the property. The property was great and the owner was easy to reach and she replied quickly. This is not a good location if traveling with anyone who has mobility issues. The beach is a bit hard to access if you don’t have 4x4 vehicles. I got stuck in the sand on the 1st day and walked from the small parking area off Dunes Rd to the beach after that. It’s a great location for beautiful views and fishing. I won’t go into details, but the 1st responders in this small town are wonderful! One of them even took care of my pets when I had to make an emergency visit to Houston.

Wonderful Weekend Getaway
Perfect for those on a budget. The property host was amazing. The house was clean and comfortable, and quiet! No guesswork on expectations; we had everything we needed. Matagorda was rural town meets the Gulf. Friendly neighbors and good folk. Be sure to bring an extra pair of old flip-flops for the beach, and watch out for tar balls - sticky! - though we never saw what we stepped in, they are out there! Nice, quiet neighborhood; we enjoyed watching the armadillos wander about the brush behind the house this morning. All in all, it was a great trip to take our teenagers, my 76yr old father-in-law, and our two dogs.

Two Thumbs Up
My family had a great stay in Matagorda thanks to our awesome host, Lisa! She was communicative and easy to get a hold of when we had questions. She lives down stairs but you would hardly even know it. We were here in the dead heat of June with 95+ temps everyday and the house stayed plenty cool with the window units. The sheets and towels were new and fresh. The yard for our dog was great. Lisa has dogs but she is very respectful about not letting her dogs out with yours unless you are ok with it. The only tiny compliant is the sliding glass door to get into the house is slightly off the track and it is very difficult to open/close but it is not a deal breaker. We would 100% stay here again!

Perfect Getaway
Our family stayed for the Easter weekend. The house is charming and had everything we needed. Beds are comfortable and our old dog loved the large porch to watch the world. Lisa is very kind and helpful. What I liked best about the house and Matagorda was how it reminded me of beach vacations from my childhood - the house is a real beach house, the street was quiet, and miles of beach without too many people. Will definately like to go back.

Great Location, Great Price
This was absolutely the best bang for your buck option near the beach. That does come with certain realities though usually. The only trade-off was the house is older and has a strong odor in it. Other than that, great place to stay.

Happy hippie haven.
Lisa is a lovely host. Her top priority was our comfort. Her fenced in back yard was an awesome play area for our dogs. The walk from this location to the end of the boardwalk at the Matagorda Bay Nature Park will be very satisfying. If the happy hippie life style is the vibe you are looking for then you won't be disappointed.

Great host!
After arriving at the other rental and finding it filthy and not ready for our arrival that host graciously offered to refund our money if I could find another place to rent. We were exhausted, 12 hours from home, and I was on the verge of a meltdown. I located this rental and contacted the owner, Lisa, who quickly set everything in motion so we could stay that night and the rest of the week. We could see and hear the waves from the sun porch and deck. The kitchen was equipped with everything I needed to prepare our meals. I was able to wash and dry clothes. There were books and movies and she was helpful to answer all of my operational questions. For the prissy types who couldn’t possibly live without their granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, look elsewhere. But for people who like an upbeat vibe and appreciate a host who wants her guests to enjoy themselves, this is the place.

This was our first time visiting Matagorda during May and were not aware of the dangerous tides that can take place on the beach and therefore we were not really able to swim. We shouldn’t have been in the water but had to take advantage of the only beach day we had. Word of advice alway bring mosquito repellent. Otherwise live the quiet, calm, and easy going town.

Sweet Getaway
Overall it was a wonderful stay. I was impressed with the quality of the sheets. The beds were decent. My son had to sleep on the sofa bed/pull out and that was not comfortable but bearable for 3-4 nights. We were not there to sit inside and watch TV so the comfort of the sofa was not out main concern. If you plan to do home cooking I would suggest your own pots and pans. Quick easy meals can be made with what is provided. Only 3 good places to eat at and if you are here in peak times you will be waiting for about 1.5 - 2 hrs. There is a small grocery store very well stocked with bare necessities and small quantities. For bulk items, like something more than 4 rolls of tp, you better shop at the Walmart about 40-50 min. away. The best part was the easy access to the beach. It is definitely a little shack but I am planning my return ASAP.
