About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Charming 1660's Cottage.

This beautiful cottage is a listed building which retains many of its original features. Conservation is a priority and we use local craftsmen using traditional methods and materials to renovate this unique property.

It is set in the Lockeridge Dene (a dry valley), and is surrounded by fields full of Sarcen stones. In pre-historic times some of these stones were dragged 3 miles to make World Heritage Site, Avebury Stone Circle.

There are many other Neolithic sites to see in the area; West Kennet Long Barrow and Silbury Hill are among the best known locally. Stonehenge is about 25 miles away and an easy drive.

There is a bluebell woods just up the hill which is amazing in late spring, but beautiful anytime of the year. We are on the North Wessex Downs so it's great walking country. There is the National Cycle Route 45 a mile away, as well as good off road cycling. If you're not feeling energetic the cottage is very cosy and a great place to sleep, relax and rejuvenate. It has a beautiful English country garden with an guest area for you too use.

Marlborough is our nearest town about 3.5 miles away. It is a market town with a Waitrose and Tesco supermarket as well as great shops and restaurants including Rick Stein's Fish Restaurant, Indian and Italian restaurants. More locally there is the village pub which serves good food, or the Bell at Overton which is more of an Indian restaurant.

Marlborough hosts a music festivals in late July. There is also the Marlborough Summer School in July and August with a vast array of courses and Children's Activities.

Truly Gorgeous! - Just watch your head! :-)
Our stay here was absolutely amazing. Communication with Jessica was fantastic and she is such a joy! The house is absolutely everything you would want from a Cotswold Cottage. The location is perfect for a base from which to make daily day trips all around the Cotswolds and surrounding areas. Just be sure to watch your head if you are like me, over 6 ft tall. I bumped mine a few times, but honestly, it just was all part of the charm of an amazing and historic property. Without question, I can recommend staying here, and it would sleep 6-adults very comfortably! Thank you Jessica, we LOVED our time in your cottage!!

A lovely house in a beautiful spot
A really lovely house in a beautiful peaceful location. Comfortable ( especially the beds) and cosy. So nice to be able to go for walks straight from the front door and an ideal spot for visiting Avebury and other ancient sites in the area. The owner was friendly and helpful. Would love to return.

Cute cottage stay
We loved our stay, the house was cute, tastefully decorated and true to the era it was built in, as per the photos. Jessica went out of her way to help us after we had transport difficulties and was an excellent host.

Family friendly
The house was ideal for our family group, 2 couples and 2 little ones. Host was exceptionally friendly and kind. Had a cot for the baby and actually purchased a highchair for our convenience as well. The location is ideal for exploring the Cotswolds, Wiltshire, Stonehenge and Bath and all surrounds and close to easy access from London. Great local pubs and near a playground. Certainly recommend.

Delightful picturesque cottage in lovely quiet countryside. The cottage was clean and well supplied with all you might need. The beds were very comfortable with beautiful clean white bedding and when we arrived there was a welcoming log burning fire to greet us.

We had an absolutely wonderful time staying here. The cottage is charming and immaculately clean. The beds are large and comfortable. We really enjoyed sitting in the garden and exploring the many footpaths nearby. Jessica was attentive and available whenever we needed something, but we also felt we had all the privacy we could want. I couldn’t recommend this place more!

A lovely 17th century attached house - all that you might expect but with all mod cons. Just the place to relax and unwind. Very pleasant unobtrusive owner lives next door. Friendly cows over the hedge wanting to say hello. We all need something like this!

Pure magic
Our family of five (mom and dad, kids aged 11, 9, and 6) stayed here for two beautiful days. This house is magical and our stay was 100% worth the drive from London. Scrupulously clean; comfortable beds; with all the kitchen amenities we needed. We spent a wonderful day exploring the neolithic sites of the Avebury World Heritage Site, which are very close by. A Waitrose is available for groceries in nearby Marlborough. There is a small playground across the street that our children really enjoyed. Our host Jessica was helpful, responsive, and kind. We cannot recommend this special place enough – would return in a heartbeat.

This is a most idillic property.. Think the “The Holliday” cottage coupled with a wonderfully comfortable bed and ancient standing stones on the doorstep. Jessica is a wonderful host and made our stay very comfortable… when we arrived a roaring fire was set and a warm welcoming cottage. You really won’t go wrong

We were so pleasantly surprised by the cottage! The pictures don’t do it justice. A gorgeous set up with a lovely log burner. Lots of amenities and the cottage was so well equipped, they’d thought of everything. Would definitely recommend and would visit again

Heaven on Earth
Words and pictures are not enough to properly convey the tranquility and magic of this cottage. So peaceful and relaxing, this cottage was exactly what the doctor ordered. Waking up to the horses grazing in the pasture across the road, and the endless walking trails all around. Every evening we lit a fire and curled up on the couch. I wish I never had to leave. We are already talking about returning again and again in the future.

Comfortable stay in cottage from history
My sister and I stayed here with our elderly parents (85 and 77). The location was convenient for day trips to Bath, Cotswold, Stonehenge and the magna carta in Salisbury. The house was spectacular and cozy. My parents stayed on the ground floor (the upper level where my sister and I stayed requires steady feet). Jessica had a fire going when we arrived and my dad was thrilled. He loves a wood stove and this made him very comfortable. We cooked breakfast every morning in the small but fully functional kitchen. This was a perfect setting for the launch of our tour of England and Scotland. If you arrive after dark, be sure you've looked at the property on Google earth so you know your way around.

Relaxing Retreat
We had a wonderful, relaxing weekend in this beautiful cottage. It is very well-equipped, spotlessly clean and has the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. We all slept well. The large garden is really lovely and we had a happy time enjoying our meals out there. We loved the peaceful location in the pretty village with countryside or woodland walks on doorstep. The local pub is a few minutes walk away. We received a friendly reception and had an excellent evening meal there. Jessica was welcoming, really helpful and an excellent host. Communication was prompt and helpful before we arrived. We really loved our weekend and would certainly return without hesitation. It’s a gorgeous place to stay.

In an English country garden… and cottage.
The perfect location for a relaxing break. The cottage is wonderful, as is the garden, and the kitchen includes everything that could possibly be needed . The stairs could be a challenge for someone who is unsteady on their feet, but then again there is a bedroom downstairs too.

An Idyllic holiday
The cottage was just what we expected, picturesque, clean and with all the amenities we needed for the week. Jessica was a great host and made sure our stay was comfortable. Her two dogs casually accepted us and wandered in and out at their leisure. A nice touch. The wood burner was a great feature and made the cottage extremely cosy in the evenings. The local pub was in walking distance, with great staff who made us feel very welcome. The food and drink menu meant we came back to it most evenings. The cottage is excellently placed for trips to Averbury and the surrounding area, which has many interesting and beautiful things to see. Overall, a great holiday in a great cottage. Thanks Jessica, and of course, Iris and Grace.

A little piece of heaven
Our stay in Jessica's cottage in Malborough was fabulous. The cottge is cosy, clean, well-equipped (poith the essets, pans, essntials like tea, coffee, etc. ). For those who like to hike, there's a trail just outside the cottage. You can then head to the local pub for some grub too! We've been travellling a fair bit across Europe, and the best sleep I got was in Jessica's cottage as the bed and duvet were very comfortable. You can't ask for a better host that Jessica who was very communicative throughout the process of booking and once on site, I benefitted from her empathy as I fell ill. Her dogs are so friendly too.. Definitely reommend staying here.

We stayed with family and friends, including 2 teens and we can’t say enough about how lovely the cottage is. It’s conveniently located to all the famous sites in the area and a short walk to the local pub. Sitting by the fireplace after a rainy hike was one of the many highlights from our stay. We will definitely be back. Jessica was a super host in the truest sense.

Exactly where we wanted to be
Misty mornings, a kettle, and two wonderful dogs that stopped in occasionally to make sure we were enjoying our stay. I cannot overstate how utterly perfect our stay was, other than being too short. Speaking of too short, if you are of above average height, you will find the ceilings quite low. My wife and I are most assuredly not of above average height, so it was a delightful novelty to be able to touch the ceiling. Anyway, the property is half the building (the left half, if you're looking at the front), and the owner lives in the adjoining half. She was a great host, and her off the cuff suggestion to visit Avebury on our way back to London ended up being a highlight of our trip. There is a nice wooded walk just a short distance up the hill past the playground, and the pub down the Who'd A Thought It pub--itself a gem--is a very short walk down the street. The property is not exactly *close* to anything, but it's *convenient* to an astonishing number of things, far too many to do in one short visit. Marlborough is an easy 10-minute drive for groceries, and the home has a small refrigerator, a full stove and oven, and a small dishwasher, as well as dishes, utensils, glasses, etc. No microwave. Internet access was fast and reliable, and we honestly didn't bother with turning on the TV so I can't report on that. There are places you encounter in your life that ... fit. Something about them combines warm memories of where you're from with the most hopeful ideas of where you could be in the future. Staying at this property and everything around it was like that for me. It didn't just feel like home as much as it felt like what I wanted home to be. And, for the record, I would go back right this second if I could.
