The kitchen has a stove, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dishes, pots and pans, cutlery, and all the utensils that you would need. A dish towel, dish cloth, and pot holder are provided, as well as dishwashing liquid and a roll of paper towels. A ceiling fan is installed in both bedrooms. The bedding, blankets, and pillows are provided. The bathroom has a shower, but no bathtub. A roll of toilet paper and a bar of soap are provided. Towels are NOT provided, so be sure to bring your own bath towels for the length of your stay. Although some life jackets are provided, be sure to bring the correct sizes with you for each person that will be boating. There is a permanent gas heater for your comfort on those chilly fall nights. A small electric space heater is also provided.

***BICYCLING ENTHUSIASTS***: The cottage is about a mile from the beginning of the Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trail System. Ride over 45 miles of paved trails connecting Boulder Junction with Manitowish Waters (west) and Sayner and St. Germain (south). The trail is fully paved and appropriate for all types of bicycles. The system includes the popular Crystal Lake Trail, which runs from downtown Boulder Junction past Trout Lake to the Crystal Lake Campground, where you’ll find a picnic area and beach. The new west portion of the trail is host to multiple scenic bridges and crosses over the rapids of the Manitowish River and Rice Creek. Also along this part of the trail system is Nichols Beach, a great place for picnicking and swimming.

Guest Access

WiFi access is provided. The playground, fire pit, and wooded area and state woods can be seen from your window. The water can be seen from every room in the cabin. A paddleboat and canoe are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Basketball, volleyball and other toys, games, and equipment are available. There is a fish cleaning house with a freezer, electricity, and sink for your use. We have 665 feet of shoreline in the resort you would have access to. There are 10 boat slips for 6 cottages, so there is plenty of room to bring boats and there is even a small boat launch on the property. A picnic table and a clean grill are waiting for you outside your cabin door. You will love having a cup of coffee on the screened-in porch in the morning watching the sunrise or a glass of wine in the evening. Or sit around the campfire at the communal fire pit making s'mores and relaxing!

This is a great cottage for the entire family or for any sorts of Anglers. Enjoy exploring all the beauty and wonder that Vilas County has to offer.

The Neighborhood

Surrounded by tall pines and beautiful, rolling countryside, the Manitowish Chain of Lakes is one of the most popular lake chains in Wisconsin's Northwoods region. The chain consists of 10 sparkling lakes known for great fishing along with breathtaking beauty and quiet seclusion for swimming, canoeing, camping, and bird watching. The cottage sits on the Manitowish River between 2 of these 10 lakes.

Directly across the Highway from Birch Hill Road about 1 mile from our cottage, is Little Star Beach. This gem of a beach is also reachable by boat.

The Manitowish Waters Airport and the local library are within 2.5 miles of this cottage, and the town of Manitowish Waters another half mile farther.

We are very close to the Little Bohemia Lodge, located just across from us on Hwy 51. It no longer offers lodging but still has a bar and restaurant. Historically known for the 1934 shootout between John Dillinger's gang and the FBI, it is now famed for its action packed scenes in the 2009 movie Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp.

20 miles north of Minocqua, this cottage is close to shopping, restaurants, theatre, golfing, skiing, horseback riding, casino, nature center, and trails for hiking, biking, and snowmobiling. Vilas County is known for its natural resources and beauty.

Getting Around

Parking is right outside the front door. Easy access by boat or car from the cottage to all 10 lakes in the beautiful Manitowish Chain as well as to the village of Manitowish Waters. Greer's Pier, a full service marina, is just a short way down Hwy 51.

Other Things to Note

This cottage stands on the peaceful Manitowish River between Rest Lake and Stone Lake which is a mandated NO-WAKE zone, assuring quality fishing off the pier and friendly waving at the slow-moving boats as they pass by quietly at the posted speed limit that protects the shorelines. Wisconsin has a building code requiring all new construction to be 75 ft. back from the water's edge. The cottage is only 25 ft. back and the forest of trees in your view are state woods so the view from this cabin is forevermore ensured.

Solid Cabin
Cabin is small, but perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids that want to spend majority of time outdoors. The 3 season room is the best feature and came in handy in the rain and in the evening. The location is the best feature, on tge Manitowish chain between Stone & Rest Lake. We kayaked and fished both ways and had a great time.

Convenient and Charming Cabin
Cozy, convenient, and charming little fisherman’s cabin with a delightful screened porch overlooking the river. We had everything we could have needed or wanted during our week-long stay in September — including beautiful weather!

Nice little fishing cabin
If your plan is to hit the water and use the cabin as a place to rest it is perfect. Not a lot of amenities, but we didn’t need them. Wi-Fi worked fine. The place was clean and has a nice screened in porch for relaxing. The kitchen had all we needed. The bedrooms were cozy and the blankets were comfy. There’s a propane stove for heat that works very well and quickly gets the cabin warmed after a chilly day. Mary was responsive, calling me prior to my stay to ensure we were all set and answer any questions. The dock worked well since we brought our boat. The cabin is not very large, but was perfect for a couple of guys that want to focus on fishing. The only negative I really have is that the boat launch on the property was in very bad shape and unusable. We were able to launch at a nearby marina so it wasn’t that big of a deal. If you’re looking for a place to crash while your out fishing or hunting it is great. I would stay there again.

Fun north woods cottage
We really enjoyed our few days there. Had some issue with cleaning but the owner and cleaning lady got them resolved right away. We will definitely be back and stay here again. It is a no frills place, which for us was perfect. The screen porch was awesome and the view was amazing!

Great location
We normally stay at cabin 1, but it was not available this year. This cabin is a "no frills" cabin and could use some basic updates (i.e. new shade in BR because it won't stay up; hook latch on porch door is missing) but overall we enjoyed our week. It is on a great location on the chain and the dock was a nice place to hang out before heading out to fish or go boating. We rode 17 miles on the bike path this year and Little Star beach is a short walk away. Didn't need to contact Mary, the owner, as we are very familiar with the area. The front porch is definitely the best part of the cabin, IMO. I brought an air mattress and slept out there twice. TV only gets 2 PBS channels which was ok with us. Would have preferred a better shower. But we were there to spend time on the chain and enjoy the beautiful surroundings so we would definitely stay there again!

Good location but...
Basically good location but the cabin was obviously not cleaned prior to our arrival.. We found pubic hair all over the toilet. The bedding had not been changed because we found hair in between the sheets of the bed. The garbage cans outside of the cabin and at the dock were overflowing with garbage that had been there for a while to have the sun fade the labels on the garbage that was hanging out of the cans. also there is absolutely no exterior lighting on the front of the cabin where the grill area is set up. We ended up going to the grocery store and buying cleaning supplies just to finish out our stay without someone elses filth! I'm sure we left the cabin cleaner than when we arrived. Pretty sad because we were charged a cleaning fee!

Pictures are deceiving.
First like in another review the place was NOT clean. The off site owners should take pride and responsibility of what could be a great place. Nothing has been updated except for the gas fireplace. The furniture was from the 80's discarded pile. You could feel the springs on the seat. The beds were very uncomfortable and worn. The upper bunk bed was dusty and had cobwebs on it. The carpet in the bedroom was dusty and stained and some mold on the walls. The lights had bugs in them and the dust on the fan was very thick visible from the floor. The stove was grease splattered. The refrigerator was rusting. Lighting was very dim and the TV monitor was smaller than most computer screens. We did not use the TV since we were there for the outdoors. The screened in porch was the best place but there was no lighting. The dock had a board that needs to be repaired. I hope this helps the owners to make some changes. It could be wonderful..

Over all good
Nice location, cabin could be updated. The pictures were a good representation, but some of the amenities were lack luster. The sheets appeared dirty, had animal hair and dander on them, and there was no soap in the cabin. Easy fixes with a run to Walmart. The river was beautiful and the location great.

Needs A Little Love
For the money this was an OK stay, it is dry. My father and I spend most of the days and nights fishing, so we need very few things. We knew when we booked this venue it would be small and rustic, no issues there. Our two largest complaints are this! The place was very filthy..........FILTHY. We had to clean the place top to bottom. Would encourage the remote owner to visit and do some validation on the cleaning crew. We cleaned the floor twice before we would take off our shoes! We feel violated, to be charged for a cleaning fee, when we had to clean your place. Second, the beds need to be replaced! Old school 1940's mattress in the large bedroom. I ended up sleeping on the couch (couch needs to be replaced, no sheets on pull out and foam on mattress all chewed up), because the bed was so bad, A few additional thoughts.......Pick up the trash left by the house, grill brush would be nice (we used an old fish net handle left by the house to clean the grill) and buy a TV larger than 13". Overall, if the owner put a few thousand bucks into the place, I would be willing to pay more for it. In all fairness, I did not contact the owner about these issues during our trip, but did call after, no answer. My father and I rent VRBO's twice a month during the fishing season on this chain of lakes. Without updates, this place is a hard no for us in the future,

Fisherman’s cottage Manitowish Waters
Great location. Hard to get a hold of owner since she lives in Milwaukee area. When I finally was able to talk with her though she was very pleasant and helpful with directions and miscellaneous questions. Disappointed that cottage wasn’t the cleanest and was in need of some minor repairs that have obviously been overlooked for awhile (i.e.—toilet kept running, leaks in the very short shower stall, light bulbs burnt out, dust on walls in bedroom, floors dirty under furniture, cupboards dirty). Being that the owner isn’t nearby, she might want to hire a handyman and maybe a better cleaning person.

Beautiful Setting
We loved the location of this property. Easy to find, perfect location on the river channel between 2 of the lakes. Nearby Manitowish Waters has what you may need. Enjoyed fishing and kayaking (we brought our own). Put our boat in at the nearby Rest Lake boat landing. Would have liked more comfortable bed and furniture. Was going to use the pullout couch 1 night and it is in bad shape and had no bedding for it. TV is a 13 inch monitor, we like to relax at the end of the day with a movie. So a bigger screen would be appreciated. If you are a bicyclist, the bike trails are easy to ride to and our neighbor told us awesome quality. We had what we needed to cook meals. The screened in porch was the best feature. The Wi-Fi was great despite being so far north. Mary was available and friendly, she checked on us when we arrived and a second time during our stay.

Awesome Getaway
The cabin was absolutely perfect. The setting was great for canoeing - in the middle of the Manitowish chain. It's rustic, but that's what we wanted. The screen porch is an awesome place to hang out.
