Room Mate Mario is in an excellent location, just a short walk to attractions, shopping, restaurants, as well as transportation.
The cab ride from the Puerta de Atocha train station took about fifteen minutes. It was raining on the day of the exit, and taxis were not readily available, so plan an earlier exit if the weather is bad.
The hotel combines neighboring buildings and you’ll feel like you’re in an M. C. Escher drawing when first looking for your room. Getting to the first floor can be confusing. But you’ll get used to it.
If you want to have a relaxing breakfast, go early. It can get hectic and the staff has a hard time keeping up with the volume. Plates, coffee cups, utensils and juice glasses are not always available at the same time. There is only one coffee machine, but there is one in your room if you want to get started early.
Rooms vary in size. Our group booked three rooms. Street facing rooms have small balconies. Most rooms are small, but comfortable. I had a larger room with a view of an atrium. The sinks in our rooms were outside the restroom. Ironing boards are available on request.
I would return to Room Mate Mario on a future visit to Madrid.
