The hostel is in a relatively good location and right between two metro stops, which is great. Sleep is difficult though due to noise in the street and noise in other rooms which goes right through the thin walls. It's also pretty hot and the AC doesn't work. Water pressure is so strong you have to barely open the faucet in the shower or you'll soak the entire bathroom as the shower head explodes upward. To reach the shower head, you must play basketball or be part-giraffe.
Overall, the hostel probably rates a 2/5 but the front desk's attitude was so poor I give the place a 1. I made a mistake and thought I was booked to stay one more night than I was. Instead of contacting me when I dialed to check out, they said nothing. I didn't know until I woke up the next day to an early morning phone call. The man spoke in an elevated tone telling me they'd charged my card an extra night, you're welcome, and I had to leave right then. I packed up quickly and went to return the key. He then spoke angrily telling me the mess I'd caused them but they'd been able to pull it off for me, as though they'd done me some huge favor. At no point had I been told there was an issue. No one emailed, called, put a note under my door, anything. The man's comportment was unnecessarily rude and a continuation of the brusque way he treated me when I'd checked in. I lived in Madrid a long time. His behavior was not culturally typical.
