It was alright, the hotel staff was nice, but the hotel is in desperate need of a good cleaning, a new paint job, and some new mattresses. It was as cheap as can get for the location, but the mattresses left us with some back problems.
I was on the 6 th floor- nice brezzy space but bed was decrepit! I thought I was going to break it! I blame it in part for my severe jet lag- no sleep for 3 days except from utter exhaustion!
Other than the price and location i couldnt really find something good to mention about this Hotel. I honestly never really complain but the staff of this Hotel had no idea that people can smile. All in all Madrid is a lovely city.
Old, worn out, just plain shabbby.
Sheets on bed had not been changed from last guest. Hair, wet stains. They did come up and change them, but still pretty shabby hotel. Bath did not look like it had been cleaned, grey and dirty.
I'm not the person to write reviews, but this hotel was the worse. In my room one of the beds wasn't made. The only thing about the room that was ok was that the toliet was clean. there was to soap. The internet did not work. When I said under my breathe at the front desk,"this place sucks" the staff member said "I know". Then they tried to make me pay again on my way out. I showed them my confirmation that it had already been paid. It took them awhile then they were ok. It is on of those places where they do as little as possible to get by. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!
I booked this hotel because it was cheap and central. Given how much I paid and how much near by hotels cost, I cannot complain too much. The hotel is old and it badly needs refurbishing. However, it was fairly clean and did the job. To a certain extent I felt as if I was staying in a ryanair hotel. Everything seemed to be extra (coin operated safe in the room, ridiculously expensive internet which did not even reach my room) and rather tatty.
Location was excellent..u step out of the hotel and u will find line of bars n pubs..around 10mins walk to Plaza Mayor..the room was very untidy, paint was peeling off..doors were not fitted properly...but for the price you pay i guess one cant complain..!!
terrible! separate beds, wifi payed, horrible staf
terrible! separate beds, when we asked for another room, they wouldnt change us, even if they had available rooms. Staff was unwilling, elevator got stuck everytime, 6 euros an hour wifi!

Stay at Asturias Hotel
You get what you pay for - nicely located, but bare minimum amenities - no Internet or even TV remote. And no AC, just electric fan!
The hotel was very good. Clean but a little bit noise from the street. The staff was excellent and is in a great location

Value for money
The location is perfect for a weekend break. The building is in need of a make-over but the staff were friendly and the room provided a clean comfy bed and bathroom with hot water. The only problem was noise at night, without double glazing the sound of traffic and pedestrians was impossible to shut out. Puerta del Sol is a few minutes stroll away making this a perfect location.
As a 1st time visitor, the history of the Hotel (built 1862), location (center of Mdrid), and ease of finding my way made the whole experience pleasurable. The restaurant is a typical fare, and food is good. Nearby is even more eating opportunities (La Caterdal for ex). You can get to the Prado, Puerta del Sol area for shopping, taxis, metro all within steps of hotel. Plus staff is great!

Excellent location
Overall it was good. The location is excellent, very close to Puerta del Sol and to other nice places in downtown Madrid. The only problem is that there is no air conditioning. I guess winter will not be a problem, but being there in June, in the middle of a heat wave, it is no fun to have no air conditioning. Otherwise, I guess it is OK.
Perfect location one block from Madrid center, beautiful balcony, roll top desk, but only have cots, not real beds. Ancient TV smaller than my laptop, remote confirmed broken by hotel stall, not fixed, bathroom doorknob falling off. Bidet broken, also knob falls off, Bathroom lock is a hardware toy with most screws missing, front door lock also missing screws. One meter by half meter water stain on wall above bed cot.

inexpensive but busy
Very busy part of town so if you are a light sleeper you won't get much sleep. The room was clean and the staff was helpful. The beds were a little to firm for me but that is my preference.

location, location, location
central location excellent. Breakfast not included, but plenty of good cafes in the sidec streets. Lift very slow, and no power points so you can't recharge your phone. Some air con would help
