This little cabin is perfectly sized for a 2 person getaway. It sits at the end of a road in a quiet neighborhood. The tree coverage provides a great deal of shade up near the cabin and opens up as you get closer to the water. The owner was building a gazebo up near the entrance at the time, which should be a nice addition once complete, but there's no shortage of views and space to enjoy the lake and property without it.
This house is back in a cove of sorts, so boat traffic was light, limited mostly to the bass boats occasionally coming over to fish the neighboring docks (there was a tournament the weekend we went). As the pictures show, there is no dock for this property. I didn't miss not having one there, as its absence provided open views of the water.
The water is fairly shallow in that part of the lake, probably only a foot to 18 inches just in front of the retaining wall. A bass boat came by that was probably 20 feet out that told me the water was around 3.5 feet out there. Still, with enough weight, you can cast the line out far enough to get to slightly deeper water. We didn't have much luck with the fish - 1 largemouth bass (probably 2 lbs) and a couple of small channel cats, all caught on live worms.
Food options in Malakoff are somewhat limited, as you would expect in a small town, but Gun Barrel City isn’t far and does have more options. Still, we were pleasantly surprised by Ochoa’s Tex-Mex nearby. Ask for the hotter salsa options, though. :)
We were there as an escape from city life and to get some alone time for our anniversary and this property was perfect for that. Many thanks to the owners for sharing it!
