Upon arriving to the rental, you could see , at the back of the house a large hole covered in landscaping fabric. This is also where the septic lines left the house. (this reference to the property will be discussed later in this passage).
Also, at one of the back windows, underneath the siding, was a very large bees nest. The house itself, inside, was left uncleaned, with the exceptions of new linens on the bed. Large amounts of hair left in and near the shower pan. Dirty throw covers on couches, dirty surface areas, etc.
We stayed only a matter of hours. He smell of septic gas woke us at 2:00 a.m. and we were unable to sleep. I contacted the owner via e-mail at 4:00 a.m. At day light, I explored the property to get a better perspective on the problem.
Remember that hole with landscapers fabric over it, right where the waste pipes leave the house? Well, I pulled back the fabric to find a 2-3 foot deep hole, equally wide, with standing water in it. That should not be the case. Clearly there seems to be a unresolved septic issue.
I phoned the owner at 7:00 a.m. She was understanding of my concern at first and stated she make efforts to get someone our to look at the septic issue. I stated that it was not possible for my family to be in a rental with such an issue. We made the decision to pack up and leave. This put our vacation plan into quite the pickle.
In the end the owner felt I was only smelling manure spread. Also, in the end she believed her "Cleaners" word over mine. The same "Cleaner" that didn't do her job and clean prior to my family arriving. What did the cleaner tell the owner?
The Cleaner stated to the owner that the wetness was only the "morning dew." Boy, that is rich.
The truth is the owner, whom resides far away from her properties, does not have an effective property manager, or she is clearly overlooking the condition of her property.
Very disappointing to see that she would rent her property out in this dangerous condition. I real waste of our time.
The owner did, immediately, refund my money. But just as quickly, relisted this toxic property.
