Cedar Cliff Retreat - Stunning 1920's Craftsman on Lake Superior Shore

Cedar Cliff is located on a dead-end road that runs along the Lake Superior shore. From the moment you walk through the doors of this incredible home, you will feel transformed.

The magnificent great room with a massive Carlton Peak fireplace has an antique dining room table that seats 12 and a drop-leaf English table that can seat 6 more. Two large screened-in porches flank this room and the windows that run its length have window seats for bird watching and reading or lake gazing. French doors in the middle open to the stairway that leads down to the water. The north shore is known for its craggy rocks and vistas and our shoreline offers a private experience of this magnificent place.

A fully-equipped kitchen has a six-burner, professional restaurant stove and connects to a charming breakfast nook and pantry. The six bedrooms are comfortably furnished with antiques, fine linens and local artwork. The bedrooms are set to the back of the house affording privacy and separation from group activities in the great room.

Family Holiday Gathering
Our family of 8 had a wonderful stay at this Lake Superior gem. The location is incredible. Everything we needed was stocked and ready to go. We enjoyed the 'bones' of this 1930's era house. Grateful to have had a great experience that provided memories for decades.

Perfect Stay
I cannot be more happy with our stay. We rented Cedar Cliff as a smaller alternative for our wedding. The space was large and accommodated all our guests and wedding dinner. The large table in the Grand Room was PERFECT! The location on the cliffs was amazing for our ceremony and photos. Perfect Day. If we have a question, the hosts were super responsive to all our needs. Will be back for sure!

What a gem!
Loved this place. 8 adults and 8 kids (ages 1-6), had an absolute blast for a Lutsen ski weekend. Can’t wait to come back! The pictures undersell how absolutely beautiful it is.

Beautiful Location, With a Sizeable and Charming House
The Cedar Cliff property is in a beautiful location overlooking Lake Superior! The house is older and charming, and the owners stocked it very well. It's only a 5 min drive to Eagle Mountain Ski Resort, and very close to the local General Store in Tofte that has everything that you'll need.

A total treasure.
We stayed at Cedar Cliff with 8 adults and 6 kids (age 12 and under) and it was a joy! Kathy was very commutative and the photos don’t do it justice. Beds are comfy and shoreline is magical. It even has several spots that make it easy to take a dip in the water! The porches are a highlight as is the fireplace. Highly recommend!

Cedar Cliff Family Stay
We stayed for 3 nights in August 2023 with a group of 16 adults and 3 young children (aged 10 moths to 4 years). The group included Minnesotans and family from Spain on their first trip to Minnesota. Cedar Cliff is a wonderful property and setting. A few things were a little "rough around the edges", but then it is an historic kind of property with it's own type of charm. Overall we enjoyed the stay and had a great time together. We would definitely stay again, especially if we had another large group.

Awesome Location
Great trip to the North Shore and house was fantastic. Location was great to do day trips as far south as Gooseberry Falls and as far north as Grand Portage. Lutsen has a great little grocery store and coffee shop we visited daily. House was perfect for 15 adults with plenty of room for everyone and that great dining room table for dinners together. Fires every night and absolutely stunning views. Could not have been more pleased with the accommodations! Absolutely loved it!

Beautiful home for a large group!
We rented this home to celebrate our parents 50th wedding anniversary. There were 15 of us, ranging from ages 14-69. The house provided most of what we needed for our stay... a bed for everyone and multiple bathrooms. The house stays true to its age and authenticity, meaning little to no updates, and leans more towards the "rustic" side. (No dishwasher, washer/dryer, etc, small bathrooms, etc... which was fine by us.) If you want to keep a fire going, be sure to purchase and/or bring lots of firewood. We loved the lake views and the large family gathering rooms! No need to bring bottled water, as the well water is delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed the location, size, character, and comfort of this beautiful home!

Dirty
Dirty floors, dusty, rotting wood floor under toilet tank, oven worked and then it didn't. Inconsistent check-in, check-out instructions. We will not be returning to this rental.

Craftsman Lake Superior Hideaway!
Cedar Cliff Retreat is a rare treasure. It is a breathtakingly beautiful Craftsman lodge with stunning features like the stone fireplace, vaulted Great Room and dining table for 18! The layout provides privacy if desired while allowing comfortable interaction without ever feeling crowded. Two screened in porches provide a relaxing option for enjoying fresh air and the hypnotic sounds of waves lapping on the rocks below without fighting off flies or mosquito's. One porch has comfy chairs and a chase lounge which was great for reading, the other a lovely vintage iron/glass topped table and chairs for breakfast or any type of "talk around the table" gathering. Three spacious bathrooms and ample hot water allow for no bathroom back-ups or queuing in the mornings. The kitchen was a dream come true! A professional grade gas stove with 6 cast iron burners, and ample cast iron pans to cook up a storm. We roasted a Turducken in the oven, and it came out perfect. A cozy breakfast nook, which could seat 6 comfortably, provided options for gathering with coffee, tea or plotting the day's adventure! Down on the lake, a fire pit and benches gave yet another option for gathering and enjoying the spectacular views of Lake Superior close up. Evening hot dog and s'more roast was spectacular as the light faded, and shades of pink, purple and tangerine filled the lake sky. Our stay was to celebrate a "late in life" marriage and honeymoon with extended family - from New Zealand - and friends. Cedar Cliff was the perfect place and we hope to repeat this experience again.

We stayed at this property for 4 days and it was perfect, the view is amazing, it’s bigger in person than what the pictures show. it was very spacious, the campfire area was beautiful, its very quiet but we did have a stranger walk up on the property though so make sure you are locking the doors!

Beautiful Retreat!
We were a group of 11 ladies who’ve been visiting the north shore for decades. This was our first stay at Cedar Cliff and we thoroughly enjoyed the place. We utilized the large dining table morning and night. There are plenty of dishes, utensils, cookware and bedding. We brought an extra coffee maker since we had a larger group. We also enjoyed both screen porches, large living room and direct access to the lake. Getting down the wood stairs to the fire pit/lake was difficult for some of our older ladies but the others enjoyed sitting at the lake’s edge. It’s especially beautiful at sunrise. We were comfortable in the numerous beds and bedrooms. We split showers between evening and night since there are only two. This property is just a few miles from Lutsen Mt and maybe 20-25 min from Grand Marais. We will be staying here in the future! Beautiful property and amazing home!
