Tree Top cabin on the Shenandoah River

Tree Top is a brand new purpose-built vacation rental that just opened in August 2017. It's near our Fish Trap and Green Castle cabins and, like them, is also river-front, sitting up high above the river with an area to walk down to the river's edge. It's part of an 18 acre "fish trap" location that was used by ancient American Indians hundreds of years ago.

Tree Top is a large beautiful property with a modern beautiful exterior and interior. Hardwood floors, stainless appliances, flat-screen TVs - everything is new, luxurious and waiting for your personal enjoyment. The pictures capture some of the beauty, modern design, nature and open spaces. Take a look at those and drink it all in!

In terms of size, Tree Top can fit larger groups of 10 but would also work for a couple or small family. There are three (3) bedrooms and two (2) full bathrooms. The third bedroom is the large loft area you see in the living room pictures. There is a queen and two twin beds in that loft area. The main two bedrooms both have queen beds.

PLEASE NOTE: The optional firewood charge of $12/night is for firewood for the outdoor fire pit. (The indoor fireplace at this property is gas.) If you don't think you will use the firewood or would like to bring your own, please let us know! We are more than happy to refund that to you.

NOTE: The base rental rate includes 5 people. Additional guests are extra. Please read the itemized charges carefully and make sure to make your reservation for the correct number of guests that will be staying. Thank you!

Pet Fee: $65 per dog (max 2 dogs)- No cats, sorry!

No parties, events, or gatherings of guests that are not included in the reservation are allowed at Tree Top.

Please take your trash with you. There is dumpster access at the Shenandoah River Outfitters (very close to the property). The house manager can take them for a tip of $5 per bag, if you would prefer.

Nice modern cabin on the river
The cabin overall was beautiful. The location was nice right on the river and easy to get to. Very nice modern home with good amenities. Only downsides we found was the beds were awfully small (definitely not queen mattresses), the hot tub was kinda dirty, and neighbors were right on top of us we felt. But none of this prevented us from having an excellent weekend there. Still recommend the place.

Wonderful family getaway
We had a wonderful two night stay at Tree Top. We thoroughly enjoyed the location- set above the Shenandoah River with a great deck to view from. We saw birds ranging from Bald Eagles to hummingbirds and enjoyed listening to them. The fire pit, hot tub, and canoes were great fun. Cabin itself was clean, large windows to enjoy nature setting (even with a day of rain!) rooms were spacious and kitchen well stocked. We will definitely return!

Booked tree top cabin as a surprise 40th for my boyfriend with some friends and was a wonderful escape for the weekend! Beautiful scenic views overlooking the Shenandoah river and loved the river access for fishing. Very roomy and well kept with great views from the main area and bedrooms. Deck could use some fresh paint, and at the time of our stay the dishwasher wasn’t working— wish the owners would have let us know ahead of time so I could’ve brought plasticware/paper goods but besides that everything else was perfect!

Tree top was absolutely beautiful. The cabin was just as the ad stated. We had so much fun and even got a ton of exercise going up and down the stairs to get a closer look at the water. The only negative was there was no propane in the gas grill but that was resolved very quickly. Living area could use a lamp or two, but we made it work. Was SO MUCH FUN!

Something for Everyone
This was the perfect spot to end 2023 and ring the new year! The views were breathtaking even, this this time of year and I would love to come back every season! It was quiet at the end of the path and we had plenty of privacy. The sound of the river below was so peaceful. We found the home very clean and much roomy than expected. We loved of course the views, sitting on the deck, and walking down to the river. The screened in room down below was a nice surprise. It was so relaxing to sit in the hot tub then and then to stay warm at the fire pit and have Smores. The grill was perfect to cook our New Year's Eve filet. The kitchen was spacious and fully stocked and the large dining room table gave us plenty of room to have game nights. There were plenty of towels and having the laundry room with a place to put our outerwear worked out well. The handicap ramp and bathroom was a big help for my disabled mother. The Christmas tree was a nice touch. When we were not just enjoying hanging out at the house, we hiked trails in Shenandoah National Park, Shenandoah State Park and drove along Skyline Drive, which is a must see. We visited the Luray Caverns, car museum, maze, and Luray Valley Museum and found them very interesting and worth it. We ate at the Watch and Warrant in town. The food was delicious and we had great service. Also, we went horseback riding at Fort Valley Ranch. It was on a mountain trail with the most incredible views of the valley. We spent Thanksgiving here with our adult children and our pups, and we had a great time! Lovely home, amazing river views, and quiet seclusion. Just what we needed! Enjoyable stay! September 2023 We stayed for a long weekend. Upon arrival, we could not get the code to work for the key for the front door. The house manager saw us struggling and immediately came over to gain access for us. He was pleasant and helpful. The cabin was very clean and well stocked. Everything we needed was there. This property is in a gorgeous, peaceful location with a spectacular view of the Shenandoah River. Sitting on the spacious balcony you can hear the river sounds and watch blue herons fly by. It’s impossible to be stressed on that balcony! The interior of the house is lovely and we found it to be immaculately clean! We’ll be back!

This is a beautiful, well equipped, and comfortable home with an amazing setting and views. We loved the gas fireplace with the timer. Property management was quick to respond. One thing for renters to note (as also cited in previous reviews) is that the lower part of the house is NOT accessible from inside the house. So — a long cold walk around if you use the hot tub.

First, I'd like to say that the location is wonderful and views are great! Cabin was clean and appeared maintained. As far as the disability features, they are a bit lacking. As someone who is ambulatory, but has difficulty walking, this wasn't the right property for us. First thing upon arrival, we were surprised at how large of a step-up there is just getting into the cabin. In the pictures it shows a ramp. We discovered the ramp later in the laundry room, but that didn't help me get into the property immediately. It was also heavy and difficult for one person to move. As a person who was a previous ADA coordinator, the fact that the front step is so large and doesn't have a permanent ramp (or even a ramp put out for guests) was off putting. A wheelchair or older person with mobility challenges would never be able to maneuver it. The bathroom has a grab bar, walk in shower, and roll up sink. These features were appreciated. The water pressure in this area should be fixed. Barely any water came out from the shower, which mafe showering a much longer process than it needed to be. We read in the guidelines that we should refrain from streaming. We honored this and planned by bringing DVDs. Well, the DVD player in the main room doesn't work. We tried for over an hour to pkay a DVD with no success. There isn't a DVD remote, so we thought it was run through the universal remote- wrong. Didn't work. We called the person we were told to in all the paperwork and they instructed us that they could not help. The gave us another number to call. We did and left a message. Someone texted us and indicated they were not the property manager that couldn't help us. This was also disappointing. The hot tub and fire pit are definitely not accessible. We knew this from the pictures. We were able to navigate down to use the hot tub and although hot with great views, it was filled with lots of sediment. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but were disappointed by the things described. Recommended for young, active and mobile individuals. Not so much if you have more significant mobility challenges, or utilize any mobility device.

Spacious & beautiful cabin with incredible views
A friend and I escaped the city life for a quick two night stay. The cabin was beautiful, with breath taking views of the mountains and river. The kitchen was well stocked. Could maybe use a couple new cutting boards. We enjoyed the fire pit and hot tub amenities most! The gas fireplace was not working, but the central air was all we really needed. The solar lights along the outside path were not working very well but we had a flashlight. Great time overall!
