Tavern River Cabin, Historical, Riverfront, Log, Hottub, Large Stone Fireplace
Tavern River Cabin is a riverfront cabin located at the Shenandoah River's edge just outside the town of Luray and is centrally located to all activities such as Skyline Drive hiking, Luray Caverns, canoeing, horseback riding, vineyards in every direction and much more.
This authentic circa 1700’s river front log cabin, comes complete with an enormous gorgeous stone wood burning fireplace (wood supplied seasonally), super therapeutic 7 person hot tub outside with stunning river views, antique plank floors throughout, country porches, and is merely steps into the Shenandoah River. This cabin has very easy and convenient access to the town of Luray, grocery stores, restaurants, etc.
It has a fantastic new very large observation dock/deck just above the river with splendid views and easy access to river for fishing and swimming. There's a walking low water bridge for wading across river in summer. It's also a 100 year old fishing spot. The antique chandeliers on dimmers with skylights are an extra added touch. Simply Charming!!!
NOTE: MINIMAL STAYS: It is a two night minimal stay with the exception of federal holidays which are a three night minimal stay.

had a great time fishing and relaxing in the hot tub in the evenings nice little secluded place off the beaten pathwould def recommend and the kitchen is stocked well with different pots and pans
Wonderful property, surrounded by nature. A beautiful escape by the river with a gorgeous view of the hills all around. If you need a getaway in the great outdoors, this is the place for you.
A beautiful location and atmosphere! If you're looking for a place to relax and unwind this is the PERFECT spot! The cabin is cozy, warm and inviting and the front decks overlooking the running river are peaceful and relaxing! I highly recommend and I will definitely will be back for another stay!!
This house was just the coolest with its vintage log cabin vibe, and the gigantic fireplace was such a hit for my husband and I! It was so cozy and warm, and we loved, listening to the rapids right outside the screen door. Chemicals in the hot tub We’re pretty strong tho.. the steam was actually stinging my eyes and nose. Other than that everything was just perfect.
The cabin was great for a couple. The rustic feel of the cabin, the fireplace, hot tub, and sitting on the deck by the river. Most everything was great, but my only complaint was the quality of the mattress on the bed. It was very soft with a noticeable dip in the middle. As a side sleeper, it was uncomfortable and had to sleep on my back. Otherwise, great place and grear location!

Dog restrictive
Based on all the warnings framed around the house people in the past must have been destructive to the place. Unfortunately, it is like the grandmother whose nickname is no-no “don’t touch anything”. The cabin itself is fantastic and for a couple with no dogs would be great. We had a 2 day and just left after the first as the place is nice but no way we could guarantee no dog hair.
Rules, rules, rules - Beautiful place with too many rules
It's a beautiful place that is wonderfully isolated along a river, but the number and diversity of rules for the cabin are a bit much. While it is certainly the owner's discretion on how to manage their properties, there are literally pages of rules, rules framed on walls, rules on end tables, etc. which took away from some of our enjoyment due to trying to avoid any rule mistakes.

Unfortunate
Drive to the cabin and surrounding area is beautiful. Upon arrival, found bed had no sheets and bathroom had no towels which I paid extra for. Expressed to owner these weren’t provided, she brought two towels for two people for a 5 day stay…told us if we need more, we can purchase at Walmart. Don’t count on the coin laundry…that’s in town, not on premises which is listed in rental amenities. Deck has areas of severe rot…watch where you step….especially around the hot tub. Pet friendly..? No pets allowed on furniture! Make sure they’re bathed and brushed before you get there, and make sure you leave no dog hair behind…you will be charged extra for cleaning if there is…that is stated in the rule book, which is a good read. The cabin itself is beautiful. It would have been nice if the outside of the deck and property were cleaned up. Be aware that the property owners live right next door. The worst thing was on the last day, we got up early to dispose of our trash as per the rules…we were gone for 20 minutes to come back to find that the owner was inside the cabin… with our belongings. We took care of the trash at 8 am, check out is 11 am. That is just wrong and made us feel very violated!

I would suggest it only be rented in fall, summer, or spring. It has an air conditioner in a window and that permits very cold air into the living area. But it is adorable.
Great setting. PEACEFUL. Very quaint cabin great for relaxing and getting away from city life. Easy commute from Baltimore. ( I drive a lot so travel does not affect me) Great vineyards close by. Next visit I would bring food to cook on grill or at cabin to enhance the getting away part
The cabin was exactly as described/pictured. Perfect location. Only issue, which wasn't too bad was no internet and the TV was broken during our stay. Not a big deal, but I had planned to do a little work while there. Other than that, A LOT of rules, posted in all CAPS with !!!!!. A little much. Nicer more friendly ways of getting your information across. I felt like I was stepping on eggshells with everything I touched or opened. If none of that bothers you, it really was a lovely weekend there with my mom. Great memories were made!
the cabin was wonderful we really enjoyed our stay and will be back again. You should know I asked my girl friend Cheryl to marry me down on the deck by the river it was the perfect place. The river and mountains were so beautiful and it was very peaceful. Thank You Nelson Skogland.
Amazing location right on the river! Cabin was the perfect size for two, and our little pup! So peaceful to hear the river as we fell asleep, and so relaxing to pass the time on the deck overlooking the water. We had a lovely time!
This place is amazing! The actual cabin, the property, the decor...everything was perfect. We enjoyed the deck and hot tub and the view is spectacular! We fished for a bit on the river deck and I did my morning yoga out there on it while listening to the river. This place is so peaceful and relaxing. We saw a bald eagle on 2 separate days, ducks, geese, squirrels and deer at this place. I would highly recommend this authentic cabin if you are looking for relaxation and serenity. The fireplace was beautiful, but we did not use it. They have a grill and there was plenty of space to walk our dog. Would love to stay again.
