We had a wonderful time relaxing and unplugging at this adorable cabin. The views were beautiful and the cabin was very clean. We were near lots of hiking trails but yet close enough to town for restaurants and shops.
The owner, Derek, was able to manage our needs while helping with a nearby fire on the mountain. We were impressed at the level of dedication shown as we felt like he was very accomodating to our needs. We'd recommend this place for anyone that wants a quiet get-away.
This was a fabulous place to get away with my family! You are definitely off the beaten path, which is exactly what we were hoping for! My kids asked when we could come back as we were driving off.
It was an amazing weekend, we enjoyed being able to fish, take out the water boats, and sit around the fire. The cabin is the perfect size and very cozy. The host was amazing and even helped once we left something behind to get it back to us.
Me and my two friends stayed at this wonderful cabin in a gorgeous setting and enjoyed many aspects of the place: river access, observing wildlife, hiking, resting, playing games offered at the house... It's a beautiful place to unwind and reconnect with nature.
We did stay there for Christmas with my wife and two friends. The cabin is clean and very appealing. There was a nice Christmas tree that made the place even more festive and cozy. Communication with the host is excellent. The location is great as well. Will return in the future.
We had a blast staying at this cozy cabin, just note the cell phone service isn’t very good and there isn’t any wi-fi so plan accordingly. But it does add a sense of “off the grid” which is refreshing.
We were looking for a relaxing weekend with land to let our friends elderly dog roam around. It was perfect. There is a fire pit outside and a gas fireplace inside. Also, there was plenty of utensils, pans for cooking a good meal. The owner was very responsive as well. We will come again.
Enjoyed our stay very much! Cozy, exceptionally clean cabin with great hosts. Place is as pictured. Equipped with everything we needed for our stay. Had games. books, and boats. Hosts were very responsive and even brought us over some kayaks to use in addition to the canoes available. Comfortable furniture, comfortable beds. Friendly, not too close neighbors so you really feel like you are away although there are some houses nearby. Easy access to many places to hike and kayak, Luray just a 15-minute drive away. Enjoyed exploring the area! Would definitely stay again.
Everything was clean, outdoor aesthetics were wonderful. Just a few flying insects inside but they were dealt with very quickly and did not return. If you're not an outdoorsy type of person do not rent this property it is very secluded. But it's a wonderful place if you want to be secluded. My family and I had a great time. Oh yeah I think you have to use the method fly fish on the river... The river's moving too fast for regular fishing.
A very peaceful surrounding, with a river near, and canoes. The cabin was very cozy, and cute, it provided an enjoyable experience. However you should note the cabin may not be suitable for handicapped or elderly residents. There is a steep staircase, small and tight bathrooms, and a steep incline on the way up. If you have a large amount of people you may end up getting overwhelmed by the tight quarters. The cabin is also located on the top of a mountain, and roads up are winding. With all that being said, I enjoyed my experience and am providing this information just to let people be aware of where they are staying.
The property was perfect for the needs of our family of 5. We brought kayaks and dropped them in right from the property. There were canoes available. The driveway is at the bottom of a steep hill which I think should be more clear in the pictures/description (or maybe I missed it). It wasnt an issue for us, but may be an issue for others. Derek was quick to respond any time I had questions. The bathrooms are clean, but should be updated to make them feel more clean. Newer appliances in the kitchen and everything you need to cook/grill. Definitely recommend! Super quiet and came home feeling relaxed. A lot of great fishing right from the property
We brought our Granddaughter and her mom and dad with us to celebrate her 13th birthday and to do a weekend of Horseback Riding at Jordan Hollow Stables. The weather was perfect, the horseback riding was thrilling and this quaint little cabin was the perfect place to sing "Happy Birthday" around the campfire and to enjoy a great weekend with family.
Derek Gaunt, the owner/contact person, was excellent in responding to every single email and question we had even a few last minute questions. I never waited more than 5 minutes for a response. The Cabin has so much charm and the surroundings is so peaceful and relaxing! This family of 5 had plenty of room around the kitchen table and for the sleeping arrangements. Even our dogs chilled out and enjoyed their vacation too! We all highly recommend "Seclusion on the Shenandoah" and we look forward to more family vacations in the future as this beautiful, rustic log cabin.
Derek is an amazing property manager, quick to respond and goes out of his way to ensure you are comfortable. We couldn't figure out how to relight a pilot light on the fireplace, he asked if he could swing by and then he was there in 5 minutes. Incredibly nice! The cabin is well maintained and well equipped with everything we needed, just had to purchase our food for our stay. Easy to find cabin, roads are in great shape and as we drove into the private neighborhood to get to the cabin, deer were everywhere. In fact, in front of the cabin were 8 deer's, feeding and just walking around. They had no fear of us. Loved seeing them, added to the whole atmosphere. The cabin does have a bit of steep stairs to get from the lower level to the main, for those with mobility issues, it may be a concern. Otherwise, book this cabin with confidence that it is represented accurately from the listing. Also, we had no issue with phone reception (AT&T users).
We loved this! Did not love the walk from the car to the house but it was a minor annoyance. We loved the isolation and enjoyed disconnecting for a few days.
We took two cars there, using two different GPS's one directed straight to the property, but the other GPS (in the car that got there first) it told us we were there a coupke bends in the road before the house. We bactracked a little to get enough of a cell signal to call the owner. He answered and cleared up the confusion, after that we didnt have any other problems.
The house reminded me of some of the old hunting cabins I visited as a kid. It's not spacious, very compact but comfortable. My husband and I stayed there with our 20 yr old daughter, two teenage daughters, tween son and two dogs, no one had any complaints.
We loved using the canoes and the fire pit. There are cute shops and a lot of great places to visit in the town. Only ate out once at Ranch Viejo, great food, great service and great atmosphere. It really is an ideal get away!
We stayed here as a family of 6, with ages ranging from 30 - 70 years old. The cabin was perfect for our needs, so much so that we decided to stay another night. The cabin is only a short drive to Luray , but is sufficiently isolated to make you feel a million miles away. There is no noise pollution - well apart from the blue jays, cicada and flowing river.
The cabin is well stocked with cooking and cleaning equipment. The rooms are clean and tidy. The free to use canoes were of a good quality and there were plenty of paddles and life vests in the shed.
Other reviewers have complained about the steep driveway. Yes, there is a path and steps to reach the front door, but it was nothing that shouldn't be expected when staying in a log cabin in the mountains. If your mobility is poor, this cabin probably isn't for you. My mother, in her 70s with the normal aches and pains of someone that age, managed perfectly well.
Communications with Derek were prompt and professional.
We would definitely consider staying here again. It was perfect for us.

Disappointing
This cabin is definitely rustic, quiet, and out of the way - all positives for our family vacation to Shenandoah. However, it is also dark, a little dingy and the description is a bit misleading. There is no parking up near the house and you need to take all your luggage up a steep incline and steps to reach the home. Inside, there are 2 sets of extremely steep stairs, which would be dangerous for kids or anyone with any physical limitations. The cabin was clean, but old, dark, and musty. The listing is clear about no wifi, but we did not expect zero cell service - we had 2 different carriers and neither one worked. If we needed anything from the owner, there was no way to contact them without a phone. Would not recommend or rent again.
