RED BARN RETREAT, located on the Mendocino Coast just a short drive from the Village of Mendocino, is the perfect getaway from your busy schedule and every day life. This lovely 600 square foot cottage apartment, which comfortably sleeps 2-4 guests, contains everything you need to come away feeling renewed and refreshed. Handsome woodwork, warm, rich tones on the walls, and comfortable, radiant heated floors make for a cozy, enveloping environment.

A comfortable queen sized bed fitted with a down comforter, slipper chair, and a handsome armoire complete the cheerful and cozy bedroom, from which you can access your private fenced garden and patio to enjoy the peaceful outdoors.

The bathroom features modern fixtures and a wonderfully deep bathtub, perfect for soaking.

The well furnished open living, dining, and well equipped kitchen space fills with natural light and greenery views from its many windows.

The kitchen has a gas cook stove and oven, refrigerator, microwave, and all of the pots, pans, dishes and utensils needed for cooking and serving a delicious meal.

A large gathering table surrounded by a fun collection of chairs invites you to enjoy a meal, play a family game, or work on a project.

Additionally, a comfortable futon sofa / convertible bed and leather club chair are situated in the living room across from the entertainment center, which includes a flat screen TV, CD & DVD players, stereo, and i Pod plug in. DirecTV programming with popular channels is available. Wifi is also available throughout the property, but please note, cellular service can be spotty in the entire Mendocino area.

Other conveniences include a coffee maker, tea pot, toaster, iron and ironing board, and hair dryer.

The property borders Van Damme State Forest which features some of the area’s most amazing hiking trails through the unique Pygmy, and stunning Redwood Forests. Our area’s beautiful beaches and rivers, and the gorgeous Village of Mendocino, all found along one of the most pristine coast lines in Northern California, are only minutes away.

Beautiful Cottage in Great Location
The Danish word “hygge” is a perfect description of the feeling of contentment and coziness that comes from the comfort and warmth that this beautiful cottage affords. The interior is rich with earth tones and pleasant trim around the door and windows. It is very warm, and I especially enjoyed the heating emanating from the floor. The bed was comfortable, and the kitchen was well laid out with all of the cooking amenities needed to make a nice meal. Gabriele and Richard are delightful hosts who sought to ensure our stay was comfortable. The setting of this cottage is beautiful, just outside the Van Damme State Park. We took advantage of the Fern Valley hike that starts just down the road from the cottage, and it is a beautiful trail that is worth experiencing. The nearby town of Mendocino is charming. The ocean views are spectacular as are the forests. This is a real gem and is worth trying out.

The house was very clean, quiet, and comfortable. Gabi and Richard were very nice and accommodating hosts.It rained heavily on our last day there and they told us what backroads to take to avoid closures on Highway 128. These caring people will insure you will have a nice stay!

This was perfect for our family vacation. Great location away from the crowds on the coast but still only a short drive to Mendocino. The house was cozy, clean and comfortable and Gabi and Richard were very helpful and welcoming. We’d love to come back!

Quiet Retreat
My husband and I spent about 5 days in this lovely little house. It had all the amenities and was super-quiet (city dwellers, it may take time to acclimate yourself to the quiet!). The hosts live in their own secluded home on the property and were very responsive when we had a minor plumbing issue (a leak in the sink which was fixed immediately). It's very convenient to hiking and to the town of Mendocino only about 10 minutes away).

Heavenly hideaway
The Red Barn Retreat was a wonderful relaxing quiet getaway for our anniversary. The cottage is lovely,spotlessly clean and had all of the amenities that we needed. I highly recommend staying here!!
My family and I had such a wonderful few days relaxing and spending time together. Charming, Quiet, Beautiful
My husband and I were delighted with the quality and value of the Red Barn retreat. Everything was so immaculate we thought the rental was brand new and were surprised to learn it was several years old. It was everything we look for in a vacation get-away: comfortable, welcoming, tasteful, quiet, convenient to activities, and affordable. Remarkable Cottage
Do not hesitate to book here. The Red Barn cottage is five stars for comfort, design details, amenities, bedding, kitchen, bathroom, size, and overall beauty. Gabi and Richard couldn't be more welcoming throughout our 3-night stay. A huge storm hit while we were there, and they were so thoughtful, making us breakfast and helping us find a way out of the area to Hwy 101. All the rivers had flooded and the major routes were inaccessible. For us the location was perfect, near hiking and redwoods, and a short drive to Little River and Mendocino. Do note it is not on the coast. We can't think of anything negative to say. Will stay again and recommend to friends.

Fantastic quiet haven
We were very happy to stay at this lovely house. Richard, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. Their list of restaurants and local places was much appreciated. The owners provided everything we needed. The home was immaculate, quiet, had beautiful decor, lovely sheets and comforter. The bed was very comfortable. We really appreciated the clear directions for everything and enjoyed all the tv programming, Netflix/prime/hbo. The setting was very beautiful and the private yard lovely. The owners really thought of everything to make it very comfortable and inviting, from a cuisinart coffee maker to the tv programming. I would definitely love to come back.

Lovely, comfortable and quiet cottage!
My husband and I had a very relaxing stay at the Red Barn Cottage! Some of the highlights...comfortable bed, full kitchen nicely stocked, glorious soaking tub and very clean! Location was set in the coastal woods...so quiet! Loved that it was away from the busier tourist area! I loved the style of this home, and the extra attention to detail that makes this place so special. Very close to wonderful restaurants and of course Mendocino. This is the perfect place to have a romantic get away and enjoy the lovely North Coast of California! I would recommend this to anyone!! This was our first visit to the Red Barn Retreat and everything we read in the reviews that helped determine where we would stay on our escape from the dreadful Sacramento summers is true! The property is in an ideal location. Situated three miles from Little River and the Mendocino coast the cottage borders the Van Damme State Park forest. It is so peaceful and quiet. The weather is ideal, some early morning and evening marine layer and temperate late morning and afternoon sunshine. The cottage itself is perfect for a couple or small family. Richard is a contractor and built the cottage himself. The attention to detail and quality is evident in everything about the dwelling! The cement floors are heated and feel so good on your bare feet and the soaking tub in the bathroom is amazing. Gabi has decorated the place so tastefully and unlike other rentals we have stayed at the accessories are first class; furniture, pictures, kitchen utensils and a very comfortable bed and high quality linens. My wife is a dental hygienist and she was so impressed with the cleanliness of the cottage. Finally, Gabi and Richard are fabulous hosts! They have provided an in depth binder with lots of information about Mendocino, dining, activities, etc. In addition, they give you all the privacy you will ever need yet are so friendly and accommodating! I highly recommend a stay at the Red Barn Retreat! We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Perfect Getaway! A Must Stay!
We couldn’t have been happier with our stay at Gabi & Richard’s Red Barn Retreat! It was the perfect getaway for us to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary and the first trip away from our two little girls since our youngest was born 3 years ago. We couldn’t have been more impressed with our experience! Gabi & Richard greeted us when we arrived at the property, gave us a tour, showed us the binder they put together with all sorts of good information, and had chocolates and wine waiting for us to celebrate our anniversary which was so thoughtful. I knew then that we hit the jackpot and that I was thankful to call the Red Barn Retreat home for the weekend. The location can’t be beat. It’s private and peaceful, but a quick 8 minute drive and we were on Hwy 1 and close to lots of cute restaurants and things to do. The property itself is beautifully decorated, has a great kitchen with a gas range and everything that you need to cook, the bathroom is stunning with the biggest tub I have ever seen, the bed is the comfiest bed I have ever slept on and I got the best nights sleep I have had since my oldest was born 5 years ago, there is even a cute little backyard that has a patio table perfect to enjoy a morning cup of coffee at, and my favorite the heated floors! The only thing I regret is that we couldn’t stay longer! We will definitely be back though and are excited to plan our next trip hopefully this summer with our girls in tow. If you are debating staying here don’t debate it book a stay at the Red Barn Retreat with Gabi & Richard you won’t regret it!
