The ruins of St Mary’s Church at Little Chart in Kent, England.

The church was dedicated to Saint Mary the Virgin and the Holy Rood having been built by the Normans in the 11th century.

It was described as a handsome building of sandstone with two aisles, two chancels with a steeple at the west end. The steeple is said to have been built in Henry VII’s reign. The Victorians carried out major repairs in the 19th century with new windows, and oak panelling.

Sadly, on 16th August 1944 during WW2, St Mary’s received a direct hit from a flying bomb known as a doodlebug. With only the damaged tower and parts of the chancel wall surviving, the bells were removed and stored. The remains still stand today.

"Great communication with James, ideal location. Quiet and easily accessible to Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay. Fabulous local pub, The Red Lion in walking distance. Cottage was modern, clean and very comfy beds. Garden leading to woods and fields. "

"Great property. Owner was helpfull and very pleasent. The property has a beautiful wood burner which heated the property as well as central heating.Large kitchen/dinning room/ sitting room so if cooking you do not feel left out from the rest of the group/ family. The garden was large garden fir Bbq would be great for BBQs."

"We are a group of 5 ladies who have been friends for 35 years and love our weekends away . Rye is a fabulous place and the house in a perfect location in Rye. The house has been decorated and designed so well with plenty of space for 5.Maybe a little snug in the sitting room but we managed to get cosy. "We really enjoyed our stay here. Host was excellent: knowledgeable and welcoming. Location was good, secluded enough but easy to get to all areas of the island. "We stayed here one night to visit the cathedral, and I would stay here again! The staff was so helpful and attentive, the room was comfortable, and the location is great for dining spots and walking to the cathedral. The rooftop bar next door, which (at the time we went) gave discounts to hotel guests, has amazing night views of the cathedral!"

"Stayed here for 3 nights. Very convenient for Dover. Tesco is about 5 minute walk from the hotel.same distance for catching the bus into town. Check in was straight forward. You have to pay for the parking at the machine inside the lobby. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast, which is included, is very nice and plentiful. But if you are hungry for a fried egg, you are out luck. We had an evining meal here once. It was alright. We had a chicken escalope and Hunters chicken. The coated chicken was very crunchy to say the least. Wifi is very good at this hotel!! Will we come again?: of course. "
