Misleading listing - one bedroom is only accessible via ladder
My parents and my father-in-law traveled from the United States to visit us for Christmas and birthdays. The host was showing us the property and then we got to the “3rd bedroom” of the three bedrooms advertised in the listing. It was just a loft which was only accessible via ladder. None of us could handle climbing a ladder to a loft. Additionally, this loft was advertised in the listing as a bedroom, but it is not a bedroom since it is not its own room, it is merely a loft above the living room.
I explained to the host that we would not be able to stay due to the lack of an accessible third bedroom, as advertised in the listing. They offered to bring a cot out to the living room, but we wanted our family to have a bedroom, not a cot in the living room with no privacy. The host refused to refund our booking cost, despite having misrepresented the accommodations. This caused us to scramble at the last minute to find accommodations on Christmas Eve, an hour before we were picking up my father-in-law at the airport! Nobody wants to be searching for rooms on Christmas Eve!
The host has refused multiple times to refund our booking. This is unacceptable and I cannot believe VRBO tolerates such behavior from hosts. VRBO support was rude and unhelpful, just giving me the line that only the host can authorize a refund.
This was a thoroughly awful experience and I highly recommend avoiding this host who misrepresents the accommodations.
