School Cottage is a truly unique terraced country cottage in the quiet village of Newbiggin-in-Bishopdale. Bishopdale is a centrally located dale in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with easy access to all the attractions of the area. School Cottage was built in 1880 with high ceilings and tall windows and, as the name suggests, the first floor was used as a school room in Victorian times. Many of the original features have survived and the property has been thoughtfully renovated to preserve its character whilst providing every comfort. The ground floor has oak flooring throughout, and the open plan kitchen, living and dining area boasts dual aspect windows with original shutters, a cosy wood burner in a stone fireplace and period style chandeliers. There is also Wi-Fi and a 32” Smart TV, perfect for relaxing on the sofa after rustling up a romantic meal for two in the well-equipped and newly fitted modern kitchen. There are spacious porches to the front and rear which are handy boot rooms, with space to hang coats and walking gear. At the rear is a flagged courtyard with pretty plants, bird feeders, and a bistro table and chairs, perfect for a spot of tea on a sunny afternoon and for watching the birds flitting about the garden. Upstairs is a light and airy bedroom with a king-size bed and occasional chairs from which to enjoy the far-reaching views from the expansive dual aspect windows, whilst planning your next adventure in the Dales. The en-suite bathroom has underfloor heating and heated towel rail, with a period style roll-top bath as well as the shower cubicle.
Newbiggin is a tiny village with a small waterfall, friendly residents and a busy farm and stables, which means there are often horses passing by or grazing in the field opposite. The surrounding area is ideal for walks from the door to the villages of West Burton or Aysgarth. The local pub, serving excellent food and local ale, is a 5-minute walk away. The busier market towns of Hawes, Leyburn, Richmond and Grassington are all within easy driving distance, offering an array of shops, restaurants and tearooms to explore. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
