Needs some better upkeep
First impressions weren't great as there's a large sheet of wallpaper hanging off the wall, and a few issues with damp/paint peeling throughout, nothing a bit of maintenance can't fix. For the amount paid, and comparing to other accomodations stayed in, I wouldnt class it as value for money. The frying pan isnt an induction pan, so doesn't work with the hob. There's very little information about the property so the oven was tricky to use first time. The hot water ran out after 2 showers, which meant a bath after walking a peak was out of the window, something i'd looked forward to.
With it being in the dales you'd expect walkers, and dogs - given it's dog friendly. However there was nowhere to hang your wet coats. Dogs weren't allowed upstairs but there was no gate to stop this, resulting in the dog being shut in the kitchen.
For the price paid elsewhere, and the rural location, i'd expect a few little touches. Dog bowls/towels/treats would be a nice touch. As well as a welcome hamper, with say butter, milk, sugar as the closest shop is the co-op in Leyburn which is about a 20min drive away.
Overall the cottage is lovely, the sound of the falls takes a bit of getting used to when falling asleep but it's in a great location. Just let down by the lack of amenities which would really make it 5 star. The management of the property and communication was great, just needs a bit more thought by the owners.
