Large house in quiet surroundings
In our opinion, the biggest asset of the house is its spaciousness. We all (8 persons) could comfortably sit in the living room. There is also a large table in the garden, but due to the mosquitos (which seemed to be particularly "hungry" there), we preferred to stay in the living room. By opening the large windows, this almost felt like sitting outside.
We also found a table (in the basement) where we could leave stuff to tinker with.
Fortunately, the children all slept in the large upper room: the staircase was very narrow with alternating traffic only, even for the children. Also, tall people had to stoop quite a lot on all of the stairs - but the rooms had normal height (except for the large bedroom below the roof, which had a sloping ceiling).
The kitchen is quite large, too, and fitted with all necessary equipment (although we used our own can opener). We discovered that we could even extend the kitchen table, which was very useful when working with dough to prepare pasta. There are two large fridges (one in the basement), so that we could always chill a watermelon and store some ice cream - welcome refreshments after returning from a hike.
Starting a hike is possible directly from the house: the marked trail #453 passes next to the house. A bus stop with good connections to Lerici and La Spezia is also located very conveniently ... and the San Terenzo tourist information office is next to it. But this does not mean that the house is in the village centre - in contrary, it is located rather at the border, and the beach (fine sand) is 1km away. Three supermarkets are even nearer, so they can also reached by foot (however, a bike allows to get to one of them even easier through a tunnel). The advantage of the location of course is that it is really quiet, especially in the two sleeping rooms on the back side of the house.
Our first impression was that everything seemed to be a bit run down, but we got quickly used to it. And there were no dripping faucets, a good Internet connection, washing machine and dishwasher worked as well as the oven, and a torn fly screen was replaced. The quality of the mattresses varied: some were quite good, some we've seen better ... but we still all could get a good night's sleep. The landlord, was also very helpful: besides providing us with two parking lots and three set of keys (one of them for the back door), he also proposed some things to do in the surrounding area. Many thanks: we enjoyed our stay.
