Enjoy a relaxing mountain getaway On River Time – located right on the North Fork of the New River, about ten minutes north of Jefferson. This cozy cabin is perfect for people who want to spend their time relaxing or adventuring instead of keeping up with a big house. It's, as Goldilocks said, “Just the right size.”
On River Time is a log cabin with rustic but contemporary details. A gas log fireplace makes adding ambiance a breeze as you relax with a movie o the news on a chilly evening. Both Netflix and regular satellite tv offer plenty of viewing options. The open floor plan means the cook is never isolated from the rest of the family. The kitchen has granite counters, and bar seating and just about everything you'll need for a weekend or a week retreat from everyday life. If you'd like to cook outside, you'll find a charcoal grill.
Two levels of porches overlook the extensive yard and the river, and are great places to put your feet up, and “set a spell.” From the porch you might spot deer or wild turkeys – even a great blue heron feeding in the river shallows. Have your binoculars on hand if you are a bird watcher, as we get a wide variety of feathered friends passing through the region.
On the main floor the master bedroom offers a cozy king-sized bed, where you'll rest up for your explorations in the area. Just a step away is the hall bath, shared by your friends and family who are staying upstairs in the bedroom with two twin beds. A loft with a rocking chair might just be the perfect spot to catch up on your reading.
Downstairs a family room with a comfy queen sofa-bed extra sleeping space, an adjoining bathroom. There's another TV, plus a small fridge for snacks. The lower level steps out to the patio with the hot tub, too. You'll also find a washer/dryer downstairs, should you have to do laundry during your stay.
Stone steps make it easy to play in the river – bring your inner tubes, fishing gear, kayaks or canoes and enjoy the cool New River waters! Enjoy a wood-burning fire pit – bring the fixings for s'mores and gather round in the evening for simple pleasures!
On River Time is less than 20 minutes north of West Jefferson, making it ideally suited for trips to explore our happening mountain town filled with shops, galleries, restaurants and several really interesting and fun festivals throughout the year. Lansing is just 11 minutes away, where you can enjoy Music in the Barn once a month, the Molley Chompers Hard Cidery, or a meal at Pie on the Mountain.
From On River Time you'll be only 30 minutes from the entrance of Grayson Highlands State Park, which miles of trails, wild ponies, incredible visits, an excellent visitor's center, and historic cabins for a bit local history. If you are visiting on the third weekend of June, you may be able to join the Wayne Henderson music festival on the park's grounds. Wayne is known for his incredible music and as the maker of one of Eric Clapton's guitars.
If you want a scenic drive, we highly encourage a visit to the Pond Mountain game lands off Rock Fence Road in the far western part of the county. You can drive quite a distance into the park for some amazing views! But do check out the state website for the scoop on when it's open.
While we love to share our special mountain county, we're aware you might just be up here to chill, something we enthusiastically encourage. Maybe your ideal vacation is a bit of sunshine, a dip in the river, a book on the porch. You'll love that type of retreat at On River Time, too.
