Up North Down South: Secluded Cabin in Lake Lure

In the wake of Tropical Storm Helene, Lake Lure continues to recover with remarkable progress each day. The main road around the lake is clear, most restaurants and shops have reopened, and grocery stores are fully operational. You may notice ongoing debris removal from the lake and nearby areas, which makes the lake itself unavailable for the time being. The town of Chimney Rock is still in full recovery mode with limited access. With this, we're ready to welcome you, and local businesses are excited to see you!

Welcome to Up North Down South Cabin! This charming home in the lake community of Riverbend in Lake Lure is perfect for your vacation. Located on 1 acre you will be able to enjoy privacy, while only being 15 minutes from the activity of Lake Lure.

This lovely 3-bedroom lake home includes comfortable details such as Knotty Pine ceilings, fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, dining table that extends to seat 6 and much more! Spend your day swimming, kayaking or fishing at the private, community lake or venture into town for hiking, dining and shopping and more. In the evening enjoy the mountain and sunset views from the screened in porch or relax by the fireplace in the cozy living room.

The welcoming primary bedroom has direct deck access which is perfect for enjoying your morning coffee or an evening drink, while taking in the mountain air. There are 2 more guest rooms on the main level, one queen and the other with 2 twin beds.

Whether you are looking for an activity filled vacation or a relaxing mountain getaway, Up North Down South Cabin has something for everyone!

Wonderful Respite
We have stayed in various homes in the NC mountains over the years. Most of them looked like they were furnished with another home's castoffs. This was very different with nice furniture and top-of-the-line appliances. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Overall good stay
The cabin itself is nice. Getting into the place is a little tough. We got there after 6PM and you have to dial a number to get someone to let you in. They acted like they didn't know what we were talking about but opened the gate and we drove to the cabin. Once inside we had 2 gate cards to use to get thru the gate so there were no problems then. They did send instructions about the gate so we expected to call. Only had 2 issues as far as being clean both ceiling fans in the master and the other bedroom beside it had a large amount of dust on the fans enough to easily see and there was a long hair in the stand up shower on the seat. No hand soap in the master bathroom and no shampoo or conditioner in the showers. The shampoo and conditioner was not a surprise but the nicer places I stay usually have it. There is no mountain view on the back deck/porch just trees. The porch is very nice though and peaceful. Like the title says it was a good stay no major issues and would stay again.

Nice Little Cabin, But ....
We rented this cabin because we were attending a funeral for my cousin in Forest City. This cabin had beds for all 6 adults. Excellent price per night and we stayed 2 nights. Of course, the extra fees increased the cost, but split among the family members, was very reasonable. Overall, a nice place to stay together with family. CONS: Gravel roads, distant cabin, steep driveway (felt like being at the top of a roller coaster), no ice maker, plastic mattress covers on twin beds (ask me how I know!), tiny pillows (bring you own!). There could be more coffee cups available. We had 6 adults, and one of the cups was cracked and ended up leaking all over the counter (we left a note so they could replace it). PROS: Clean, fairly new, bright (could use some dimmers for the pot lights or bigger lamps in the main area), screened porch (lovely mountain views, but we were there on a rainy weekend), one level living, which was great for my 89 year old mother, beautiful and spacious main bedroom. Plush towels were wonderful! Bed linens were crisp and smelled clean.

I bit of an adventure to get there, but beautiful
Pros: Beautiful property in a quiet gated community with lovely views. Close to the cute resort towns of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village. Super quiet, super clean, lots of room. Views from the HUGE back porch are amazing. Cons: If you are planning on spending a lot of time in Asheville proper this may not be the place for you as, even though, only 22 miles from Asheville, it is through a curvy, steep, kiss-your- butt curves kind of road. It takes at least a one to one and half hours to get to Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. A lot of the restaurants in Lake Lure and Chimney Rock are not open for dinner. We mainly cooked breakfast and dinner in the cabin and ate lunch out. Advice: We found an alternate route that was not any less time, but not as difficult a drive. I would definitely use this route if you are coming in at night like we did. Not as many of those curving mountain roads. Basically you take I-40 east to Hwy 221 south (Rutherdfordton exit), take this until you get to the 64/74 junction. Go West here into Lake Lure. From there your GPS will get you to the Riverbed front gated entrance. We throughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again if we are ever in the area again.
