As of now, Lake Lure is not expected to be open for boating and/or swimming by summer 2025 as lake recovery and cleanup efforts are still ongoing. However, our home is good to go and ready to host. We have just reduced our rates and minimum booking nights to reflect the expected conditions. The house remains a wonderful place for gathering and creating memories. The lake and mountains are still as beautiful as ever. Thank you for your continued support of such a special small town. Please refer to the town of lake lure's website for current lake status's.

Beautiful LAKEFRONT home. This home boasts a King Suite as well as four spacious gathering decks and room to spread out. Numerous indoor as well as outdoor living areas including a billiard room. Garage has been converted into a rec room with a ping pong table, foosball, giant jinga, and TV. Enormous sun deck atop a 2 stall boathouse. 2 Kayaks and 2 paddle boards (SUP) included with rental. Inquire with owner regarding rental of 20' pontoon. Sonos sound system. 3 king beds, 2 queens, 1 single, 3 roll-away beds, and 2 pack-n-play cribs. Fully stocked kitchen. Weber gas grill and charcoal grill are available for use. Our cove is nestled back from the traffic flow of the main lake allowing a safe space for children to swim away from boat traffic.

*NEW in 2022- we have just completed a stone fire pit addition to the side of our home.

Ali was super responsive, to any and all questions. The 5 bedrooms, over three floors did an exceptional job accommodating our large family (including Grandchildren). Many great areas to gather, and the reck room was a great feature.

Wonderful place to stay on Lake Lure!
We had a great time with our family at Idle Speed! The hosts were great and the house was just perfect! Beautiful spot on the lake, very clean, lots of great porch space and hang out space! We also enjoyed being close to some great hiking spots and the Chimney Rock area.

Great Family Vacation
This house was everything we expected, and more! The area was perfect for a family vacation. We explored the Biltmore, chimney rock state park, and are glad we rented a pontoon boat to cruise around the lake.

Amazing Home!
We absolutely loved this place. We have rented through VRBO for several years and multiple properties and we all agreed this one may have been our favorite. We want to come back in the summer and jump off the boathouse!

Lake Lure Excursion
Great Property, the decks and Sun Rooms are wonderful for relaxation time. Our kids enjoyed kayaking and paddle boarding. The Chimney Rock area is quite beautiful. The sidewalks do roll up early in town and there are only a few places open after 8pm.

Annual family winter vacation
We originally had reservations in Gatlinburg but due to snow and ice we had to cancel. At the last minute we looked for somewhere else to gather and came across Lake Lure. The house and village of Chimney Rock exceeded our expectations!! Our family loved the house on the lake, we will definitely be back.

Fall Family Trip
We rented this house for our family including our grown children and grandchildren. The house is perfect! It has everything you could possibly need and more! The location on the lake is just beautiful with so much to do! My only complaint is we didn’t get to stay long enough! We definitely plan to come back again!

Summer Mini vacation
We had an absolute amazing time here! The house itself was great with the well-stocked kitchen, great bedroom layout, and fun things to do like pool and ping pong. And everyone loved the lake amenities - kayaks, paddle boards, floating water mat, and a great deck to sit and play games and just enjoy the lake. Can't wait to come back and spend more time here!

"Enjoyed our stay at the Lake Lure cabin in North Carolina. The cabin offered a cozy retreat with well-appointed amenities. Mountain Lake Retreat
We had an awesome time at the lake. The views were amazing. It was quiet and relaxing! The house was clean and spacious! Kitchen was well stocked with pans, plates, silverware, etc. The host Ali was quick to respond when we did have a question. Definitely would consider returning another time when it’s warmer to enjoy the lake activities.

Mother’s Day weekend
Idle Speed was exactly if not better than anticipated. We had ample room for 11 of us and all the amenities plus more than we could have hoped for were provided. Pool table, ping pong, foosball, kayaks, so much to do. This property truly caters to every age level.

Lovely Place with a Great Host
Idle Speed was a good fit for our family, nice bedrooms and lots of porches and a well-equipped kitchen. Lots of places for people to be together as well as have some quiet time, both indoors and out. As noted by others, it’s important to be aware of the stairs that need to be used to get to and from the lake and the boathouse. Ali was a pleasure to deal with, fast and responsive.

Verry accommodating.
Had to cancel the day of arrival due to real bad weather. The owner very accommodating and was willing to rebook at no charge for a different date during the off season. We ended up not using the home, but we appreciated the offer.

A week of fun and entertainment
This property has everything one would ever want while vacationing. Billiards, ping pong, fuse ball, board games, paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, fishing supplies and more!! If you are looking to get away with family and friends, this is your spot. The house will comfortably fit large groups. Our grown college and high school children really enjoyed their space downstairs. Ali is incredibly accessible and available to help in so many ways. I would stay here again in a heart beat. Thank you for such an amazing week!

We stayed at Idle Speed over the Fourth with my extended family including one child, two toddlers, and two infants. The house was very well appointed with plenty of thoughtful amenities above and beyond what you would expect from a typical vacation rental. The owners had very clearly given a lot of thought towards exceeding their guests expectations. We had a couple minor items we reported to ownership during our stay that were fixed in a matter of hours. Great house. Great location on the Lake. Great owners. Highly recommend.

Lake Lure
We loved everything! I think my only complaint would be you can hear everything in the house. And I mean everything. No sleeping late (and I mean past 6:30) with little ones. Also, if you are not in decent shape there are 93 steps to boat deck. Going down is no problem but up can be challenging!

Family Friendly Home in a Great Location
Nice home in a quiet cul-de-sac. Beautiful views to the lake. Water and boat accessible via many (!) steps, but also available via a short drive to the marina for those who can’t do the stairs. Generous sized bedrooms, comfortable beds and fairly well equipped kitchen. (Would have liked to have had enough sharp steak knives for our entire party - we had 9 people and had to share knives!) Some of the cushions on the porch furniture were quite heavily stained, but I’m sure that’s be expected at the “end” of the summer season. Thoroughly enjoyed our time in the pontoon and in the various game rooms. Keith and Ali were very responsive from the beginning and helpful during our stay! Idle Speed was a great choice for our family reunion.

Great Stay...Rain or Shine!
The house was everything we thought it would be...including the 93 steps to the water! Lots of space for everyone. Beds were very comfy. The extra frig/freezers in the game room and in the boathouse were great! The covered decks were perfect for when the rain set in and to enjoy coffee in the AM while everyone else was still asleep. The game room and the pool table and games made the rainy days fun! We rented the boat for the week which was great to have at our disposal from sunup to sundown. Ali was very responsive and easy to communicate with. FYI...there are bears, deer and coyotes in the area. And as someone else said...the steps are no Joke! Think of it as a built in workout! We've been coming to Lake Lure since our kids were toddlers and now they are 21. Another great week at Lake Lure!
