Gudvangen Budget Hotel
5/5 Excellent
"Even though I booked the Fjordtel Budget Hotel, it was early May and the main hotel was not full so they automatically upgrade me to the main Gudvangen Fjordtell. The room was neat and clean and even had a kitchenette and its own deck. It was a short walk from the main building where you check in and eat. Very cool round building with lots of glass, including the ceiling thru which you can look up 400 meters to see one of the world’s most magnificent water falls. Indeed, the tiny hamlet of Gudvangen is surrounded by towering cliffs like no other place in the world of which I’m aware. It also is the origin of the Naeroyfjord, perhaps the most awesome of all of Norway’s many fjords. It is part of the famous Norway in a Nutshell attractions, and can be taken either from Gudvangen to Flåm or visa versa. In midseason, I assume the place gets very bust because there are parking spaces for dozens of big buses. Many of the buses are from nearby Flam (20 minutes) but the two hour bus ride from Bergen to Gudvangen runs through spectacular scenery. I recommend you get a good seat on a VY double decker and drink in the beauty. "
