Madeline Island Cottage Overlooking Apostle Islands

A private and quiet setting overlooking the Apostle Islands National Park. Relaxing getaway for two or plenty of space for a gathering of sixteen.

Enjoy enchanting glimpses of wildlife; deer at dawn, lake trout and salmon migrating in spring and fall. The extra-wide, permanent dock reaches 140' into Lake Superior and provides a perfect place to relax on the adirondack chairs and watch children at play or enjoy a serene moment at sunset.

Our architecturally designed cottage has an old world feel. The all-wood interior on the main and upper floors, most of which is milled from old growth Douglas Fir timbers, lend warmth and character to the home. The wrap-around screen porch provides protected outdoor space for dining, reading, playing cards or taking an afternoon nap. The fieldstone rumsford fireplace will take the evening chill out of the air and the 12' dining table will seat a crowd for special meals prepared in the gourmet kitchen.

The lower level 'rainy day' room features table tennis, a kids rock-climbing wall, a large flat screen TV monitor with AppleTV. An electric keyboard and an acoustic guitar is there waiting to be strummed. Plenty of books, games and puzzles line the shelves throughout the home.

We are 7 miles from the town of LaPointe where you'll find restaurants, bars, ice cream and souvenir shopping. There are tennis courts available as well as a Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course. Moped, kayak and bicycle rental also available. Take the ferry over to Bayfield for a day trip of shopping and dinner out.

Available for weekly rentals during summer months or shorter periods in fall, winter and spring. Designed by Dale Mulfinger of SALA Architects, and featured in his book, Family Cabin (https://www.tauntonstore.com/the-family-cabin#collateral-tabs)

Amazing Property!
We had a fabulous time at this spectacular house on Madeline Island! it is absolutely beautiful, has lots of space, great access to a dock on Lake Superior, stunning views and a wonderful well-stocked kitchen. It is so charming and cozy and has enough space for our group. Communication with the host is very easy. We just loved staying there!

Wonderful stay!
Rendezvous House was relaxing, well-stocked, comfortable, had lovely decor, a great view, and fun dock and beach. Plenty of space for 16 of us to move around without being on top of each other. The nine kids enjoyed the ping pong table and climbing wall. And very comfortable beds! We loved sitting on the screened in porch to look at the lake and enjoy the sunsets. Not far from the state park or town.

Our kind of paradise
Our group of ten, including adults and children, enjoyed all aspects of this memorable property from the well-appointed kitchen, the pool table in the basement, the *amazing* screened in porch, the front lawn for a wiffle ball game, the many cozy and unique spaces to the huge dock with chairs and sandy beach! Theresa was very helpful both before and during our stay, and we thank her and her family for sharing this special place with others. We will be back to Madeline Island!!

Simply the best
This proved to be just the family time and place we were looking for. Slow days, incredible sunsets, swimming at the Town park beach, fishing, preparing food together and relishing the conversation. The house was perfect. Incredibly well stocked, and the house itself so well thought out for sleeping, eating, reading ( the library, for kids and adults, was on point!) and relaxing was just so wonderful. The screened porch alone was worthy of so much time spent looking over the Lake and the other islands. Our thanks to Theresa and her family and caretaker for creating and sharing an almost magical place on the island.

Madeline Island Beauty
Amazing property with everything we needed and more. We were on the island for our daughters wedding. They have a vacation home on the island and had their wedding on their property so my husband and I and some of our family stayed at this beautiful home for the Labor Day weekend. The beds were comfy and so much space and different areas of the house for all of us to hang out. The kitchen was fully supplied and we couldn’t have asked for more. Great time had by all. Thank you!!

Family getaway
My husband, I, our 3 children, their spouses, and our nine grandchildren spent a week at this great house. We have been to Bayfield/Madeline many times but stayed on the Island the entire week. Loved this property - had a great kitchen! Cooked, baked, did art projects, hiked, biked and many water activities, every night around the campfire. I might say that although this did not apply to our family - the property should indicate that the walk to the beach might be difficult for some people. Cant say enough about how much fun we had. THANKS

Madeline Island Cottage- Beautiful cottage
The cottage was very well equipped through out. We had a group of 13 adults the cottage only has 4 bedrooms that is adequate for adults. The other 3 bedrooms would be great for children. So this did create a problem for our group two of the seven bedrooms is in a loft up very steep unusual steps that would be fun for children but not so much for adults. The loft also gets quite warm each of the bedrooms has two built in twin beds. One bathroom on the second floor that is dormitory style with one shower. The other bathroom is on the main floor with a shower. If you have a large group this arrangement is not very convenient with only 2 bathrooms and 2 showers & a limited supply of hot water. The path down to the dock is quite rustic & can be a long distance for those we are elderly & not fit. However the kitchen, living room and porch were all very nice.

A large house for multiple families with plenty of elbow room, fun and water
This is the perfect home for a gathering of multiple families (technically we had 8 different units), or one very large one! There is plenty of space for children to play, adults to read, or to walk down to the lake and enjoy the beach. The kitchen is well stocked and was a pleasure to cook meals and clean up in. All the amenities were very nice and thoughtfully planned. The house is very well cared for and is beautifully decorated. It was a 6+ mile ride via bikes into town which we tended to do in the morning and then come back in the afternoon and spend time at the lake. There was plenty to do in LaPointe for those who wanted to venture into town such as the Museum, local stores, or check out the community calendar for events. To wake up every morning and have a spectacular view and nice cup of coffee on the porch made it hard to leave. Or was it the evening sunset? Or the afternoon playing in the sand and jumping off the dock? The owner did a great job communicating/answering questions, and even sent us a list of things to do while on the island. We had always visited MI in the past for a day, but we were absolutely delighted with our experience staying for seven. Yes, you want to stay here.

Magical in the winter
We have been to Madeline Island several times now, and this was our second time to go during the winter. We love it there in the winter because things are calm and quiet and beautiful with snow blanketing the trees. On my morning runs down the snowy lane, I scarcely saw any other person. It was just the peaceful retreat we were looking for. The home is cozy, clean and quiet, set far enough back off the road that you really feel like you are all alone in this winter wonderland. There was plenty of firewood at the house so that we could keep a roaring fire going. This was great for family game nights as well as cooking s’mores in the evening. There was plenty of space for our family of 10 to spread out and plenty of activities in the house to keep them occupied. My youngest kids really loved the rock climbing wall in the basement. Ironically, although we can never get them to practice at home, they also really enjoyed playing the piano in the basement. There were lots of books to read and lots of board games to play. The kitchen was well stocked, and we really did not lack anything we needed. As far as other activities, we rented snowshoes and went hiking in big bay State Park. We also left the island to go ski at the local ski hill which was very inexpensive and a lot of fun, although it was not terribly fancy. We had a wonderful time, the hosts were very responsive, and we would definitely go back again.

Really nice vacation
We had a great time—property was beautiful and spacious and the owner was great to work with! Just a few tips for future guests: I would say we spent most of our time hanging out at the property itself (hanging out on dock, beach, campfire, grilling, chatting, playing cards, screen porch). It’s a perfectly serene setting with absolutely no noise from neighbors, etc and a great place to relax and hang out with friends and family. If you feel the urge to explore a bit, a few things that we found were: 1) For boat tours of the islands we ended up going to bayfield rather than the tours on the island since they were significantly cheaper and had much more availability. Tour was overall good, but most of our tour was spent getting to Devils Island and going back. Devil’s island is really cool, so if we did it again we’d try to find a tour on a speedboat that went directly there (not sure if such a thing exists) 2) If you go into bayfield, recommend catching breakfast at the Manypenny Bistro. 3) It’s worth checking out big bay state park. Cool hiking trails. 4) We couldn’t find Kayak rentals on the island, looks like just Kayak tours. 5) We brought our own bikes, although there is also bike rental. Be aware that there are generally no dedicated biking trails on the island, so you will be sharing road with cars. Not a problem for the most part since it is very low traffic but not great for little ones. (We left the little ones home with grandparents while we went out).

This was our third time staying. We go almost every year and have stayed at many phenomenal homes on the island, but this is far and away our favorite. The home is incredibly well thought-out for groups and very comfortable. The porch, the dock, the sunsets...it's just magical.

A wonderful family vacation
This is our second time staying at this amazing home, and everything was great. Our first night there, we viewed the Northern Lights. We woke all 5 grandkids (ages 3-14) and all sat on the dock and watched in awe. What a way to start the week! This property has everything we needed to enjoy our time together. We all want to go back! Thank you so much.

Madeline Island Family Fun
Fabulous place for our family to gather to enjoy each other and the gorgeous area. Our group ranged in age from 5 to 85. We had as many as 14 people there at once, although all were not able to stay the whole week. The kids loved the basement playroom and the great pier on the lake, as did the adults. So many wonderfully appointed bedrooms, lots of getaway spots, spacious dining table. And then the wraparound screened porch and the unbelievable kitchen! This is a truly special house!!!
