Glenterry Farmhouse is in a peaceful location close to the small village of Twynholm, near Kirkcudbright. The House is situated in a well established private garden and has been modernised to an excellent standard. The House offers accessible and comfortable accommodation including a ground floor bedroom and an accessible wet room shower. The cosy sitting room has dining space and the kitchen is well laid out with a large walk in larder cupboard. The large utility room is excellent for storing and drying outdoor wear after a day out adventuring and exploring this stunning part of Scotland.
The Solway Coast is close by with numerous beaches and rugged cliff tops along the coastline to explore, the vast expanse of sandy beach at Brighouse Bay is within a short drive, or Carrick with its vast rock formations offers ideal rock pooling opportunities. If the lure of the sea is not enough then the Galloway Forest Park is within easy reach with unrivalled opportunities for star gazing due to the low light pollution. There are also excellent walks and challenging mountain biking opportunities at Kirroughtree, a stage of the 7stanes Mountain Bike trails, with others a little further afield at Dalbeattie, Mabie & Ae Forests.
The local area has a wealth of Turf and Surf activities with Golf well provided for with courses at nearby Brighouse Bay; Kirkcudbright and Gatehouse of Fleet. Along with normal water sports there is excellent fishing including game, sea and coarse fishing.
The popular town of Kirkcudbright is well worth exploring and offers a full programme of arts and culture events throughout the year including a Jazz Festival, Tattoo, Scottish Nights, Festival of Light and Arts & Craft Trail weekend to name a few. The National Trust for Scotland property Broughton House and Garden, home of the renowned artist E.A. Horne should not be missed even if only to visit its stunning courtyard garden alone, there are other National Trust and Historic Scotland sites within an easy drive. The Town’s modern and recently opened Art Gallery enhances the town's links to artistic schools of The Glasgow Boys and Girls. There are many areas of conserved architecture to wander around and welcoming cafes for a rest with tea and cake!
Kirkcudbright also has a busy working harbour and marina with the fishing boats making an impressive sight when alongside.
If you fancy a break from cooking then the hotels & Pubs in Gatehouse and Borgue offer meals, but as it does get busy it is advisable to book in advance. Slightly further afield the market town of Castle Douglas offers a variety of independent shops, along with a theatre which doubles as a cinema. There are a wider range of eateries in the nearby towns of Kirkcudbright, Gatehouse of Fleet and Castle Douglas. Slightly further afield, located on Loch Ken is Galloway Activity Centre which offers a wide variety of water and land-based activities together with a café so you can enjoy a warm spot while you watch the sailing and boats on the loch.
All in all there really is something for everyone.
