It is just a two-minute walk from the interesting, traditional, small market town of Kirkby Stephen which stands on the famous Coast to Coast walk and is close to the scenic Settle to Carlisle railway line, two miles away. The magnificent Eden Valley is sandwiched between the Lakes and Dales. National Parks, is less well known than the Lake District and is a real delight to visit. The surrounding countryside offers spectacular views and numerous walks of various levels and there is an excellent tourist office in the town to help plan your activities. The closest lake is Ullswater, 25 miles, which is regarded as the most romantic of the lakes. There is a regular boat service running up and down the lake with stop offs for those wishing to walk part way. There are plenty of water sports available along with terrific walking and cycling. A drive along the lakeside runs over Kirkstone Pass and down into Windermere and Ambleside, a scenic drive not to be missed. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
