We chose Menehune Shores for it's amazing view, but also for it's central location. Staying in Kihei will allow you to enjoy so many of Maui's offerings....you are in the middle of it all. Head upcountry where the vistas seem to go on forever, take a snorkel cruise from Ma'alea Harbor, or pack a picnic and take the road to Hana to hike and explore waterfalls or the bamboo forest. It's all just a short drive away.
Please note that Menehune Shores is a non smoking property and is pet free. There is a designated smoking area on the ground floor.
The roof-top Lanai is a great place to cook outdoors on our gas grills and dining tables. From this rooftop you have a Spectacular panoramic view of the ocean, upcountry of Haleakala, West Maui Mountains, the island of Kaho'olawe, and the Molokini Island Crater. This is also a great place to watch the Humpback whales during the season. Whale Watching in Maui is November – May, with the majority of whales January – March, February being peak season.
Please note during peak season per HOA rules, one car is permitted per unit. Dec 15th-March 30
Kalepolepo Beach:
Excerpt from Maui Guide Book:
A small but lovely beach in North Kihei. This was the historical site of a thriving Hawaiian village, and is an important cultural archeological site for native Hawaiians. A portion of Kalepolepo Beach is the location of the ancient Hawaiian fish pond (Ko’ie’ie fishpond, one of three in the area) its walls protect the beach creating a calm shallow pool that is also perfect for keiki (children) or adults who prefer smooth waters.
In the late afternoons turtles often swim up onto the protected beach or on the seawall to rest for the night, swimming out the next morning. This gives daily opportunities to snorkel near and photograph these amazing creatures. Please remember to enjoy the turtles from a distance.
For more island excitement there is a near by Canoe Club that will take you on a wonderful experience of a six man outrigger canoe ride.
Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary
Located in Kīhei on the south shore of Maui, the visitor center is an ideal spot to learn about the marine environment and even see humpback whales breaching. This scenic beachfront location at the foot of Haleakalā has views of Kahoʻolawe, Lānaʻi and West Maui looking across the waters of the sanctuary.
Recently renovated, the visitor center currently showcases temporary exhibits, while permanent exhibits are still being planned for the future. There will be interpretive signs around the lanai to highlight stories of the historic Hawaiian fishpond, the scenic view, and conservation messages related to the surrounding environment. Inside, the exhibits will tell the story of marine animals and coral reefs that are found throughout Hawaiʻi. Intertwined will be displays on how native Hawaiians lived in concert with the land and sea.
Visitors to the new center in Kīhei will be able to learn about the efforts by NOAA, the State of Hawaiʻi, and others to protect humpback whales, monk seals, sea turtles, and coral reefs.
There are six world-class golf courses a short drive from Menehune Shores. The Pacific Ocean Center Aquarium, where you can view the ocean's inhabitants through a walk-through glass tunnel, is a few minutes up the road on the way to the old whaling port of Lahaina. The exclusive hotels and shops of Wailea are just south of Kihei.
