A beautiful 2 bedroom cottage-style cabin minutes from Rushmore

We are Backroads Inn and Cabins. Our property lies in Echo Valley. 8 acres surrounded by National Forest. We are the essence of the Black Hills, yet minutes away from everything people come to see, like Mt Rushmore (2.4 miles) and Custer State Park (15 minutes).

Search for our reviews if you want to know what others think of us.

Named after a large mine situated within hiking distance across the valley, this cabin is a 2 bedroom-room (queens) with a large living room that has a pull-out couch and an apartment-sized kitchen. What makes this cabin unique is the large sun porch on the front that contains a dining set as well as a twin day bed.  There is a private gas grill, fire pit, and horse swing out front.  Perfect for a large family or a multiple family gathering.

Cute, Rustic Cabin!
Very clean and friendly property manager, Jordi! We noticed a bee problem at the front door during check in and she was quick to respond and take care of the issue. This cabin was very close to Mt. Rushmore and Custer State Park and was a very peaceful place to stay! Shower was small as other reviews stated, but we made it work. If you are planning on making meals, make sure you bring all spices, condiments and food you may need. Kitchen had all the staple pots, pans and utensils. Highly recommend this cabin and location to anyone who is coming to visit the Black Hills!!

Mt. Rushmore Visit
The cabin was very nice. It was clean, and roomier than we expected. We loved seeing the deer and wild turkeys right in the yard. Location near Mt. Rushmore and Keystone was excellent.

Pleasant, Inviting, and thoughtfully decorated!
We absolutely loved staying in this cabin! Response from the hosts was prompt and professional when we reached out with a question. Upon entry of the cabin, it was so thoughtfully decorated/arranged, things were placed in a way that was very practical for use of guests. My Children felt at home staying here which was wonderful! It was very tidy, clean, and overall a wonderful cabin. We absolutely would recommend staying in this cabin and we ourselves want to make it a point to stay here again. It's very close to Mt. Rushmore, the town train ride, shops/attractions and a great antique store all while still being in a quite/peaceful area.

What an AMAZING stay! Our cabin (Ingersol) was a great place for our little group to stay. The place was clean and well appointed. The beds were comfortable, and the ceiling fans were nice to have. We even used the grill and it fired up right away! (You do need a new grill brush however) The steam train went right by every day and the little brook babbling in front of our cabin was perfect! The ONLY issue we had was the shower was small. But I guess miners were shorter back in those days :) We had very little interaction with the staff because we were out in the surrounding Keystone area each day, but we were happy with how the property was kept up. Backwoods Inns and Cabins is a great place t call home when you are in the Black Hills / Keystone area.

Absolutely perfect stay!
Book this property! We stayed here with our two children (5 and 8 months) for 5 nights. It was perfect. Relaxing and secluded location with everything we needed. The rooms are a little small but we weren’t at the cabin much as we were out hiking and sightseeing and we only needed the rooms to sleep. As previous reviews mentioned the shower is a bit small, but we were fine with it and adapted. We loved watching the train roll by and seeing deer in the valley, one night they hung around for a few hours. Our 5 year old also loved seeing Huckleberry, the owners dog. We will definitely be back in the future!

Clean, comfortable cabin, minutes from downtown Keystone
We had a wonderful time at this cabin. It was clean, easy to check in, and was a perfect launching spot for Mt Rushmore, Custer, Crazy Horse, Cave Winds, and Hot Springs. I was a little concerned about how the shower would be based on reviews, but neither my mom nor myself had any trouble. Some wifi, but probably not enough to work a business day without dropping. We loved the deer in the yard at morning and dusk.

Such a cute cabin!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin! It is a great location to see Mount Rushmore, Badlands, etc. It was clean, well appointed and the Property Managers were very pleasant. The only reason I am not rating 5 stars are for the following reasons. The shower was SO tiny that it was actually uncomfortable to use. Anyone should really be aware of this prior to booking this property. I very much an average sized woman and even my very thin 13 year old had issues with it. I could not shave my legs in the shower and you could not have more than one toiletry item in the shower at a time (I had to use body wash and then exit the shower to place it on sink to then grab shampoo/conditioner to use, exit shower again to grab shaving gel, etc ). The other issue is the internet/cell service which was really almost non existent. That being said, most people likely visit this area to unplug and NOT use phones/ computers but my husband had to work and could not work from the cabin at all (he worked instead from his car downtown where he was able to use data/cell service). Last, the stove was not functioning when we checked in so I called the property managers who I did not hear back from. We changed our dinner plans and left the cabin to eat out. I called again in the morning and was able to reach them and they did repair it while we were gone exploring the next day. However I have no idea if they received my voice mail the night before and just did not respond or what? Maybe the cell phone coverage was so poor they could not hear my message? There was never an answer to that. When all was said and done however, I would recommend this cabin for anyone who would not be bothered by the shower and cell phone/internet situation. I appreciated the owners allowing us to stay at their property and we certainly felt safe/comforable there.
