Millside Cottage - a cottage that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

Millside Cottage is situated in a quiet location, close to the centre of the village and a short distance from the village shop. There are two allocated parking places at the front of the property. The cottage has full gas central heating, double glazing and is lovingly maintained with wonderful views of the fells. It is charming and well equipped offering very comfortable accommodation for any time of year.

The entrance porch opens into a spacious, well decorated, lounge with a beamed ceiling, a living flame gas fire which has a remote control, and a leather suite, along with Smart TV, Bluetooth + CD Hi-Fi.

From the lounge you enter the fully fitted kitchen diner with built in appliances, including oven, 5 ringed ceramic touch control hob, microwave, washer dryer, fridge and freezer, dishwasher and Nespresso Magimix coffee machine with some complimentary pods. There is a dining area with table and four chairs with views out to the secluded garden.

From the kitchen there is a small sun room with comfortable wicker chairs and table, ideal for afternoon tea and reading. This leads to the well kept enclosed garden which is ideal for families and those sunny days in the Lake District. It has a paved area with table and chairs, many different flowering shrubs and views out towards the fells.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one bedroom with bespoke king size bed and one twin with two singles, both with built in wardrobes.

The large bathroom has both a bath and a shower cubicle, and a wash hand basin (the view of Barrow Fell from the bath after a day on the fells is definitely recommended). There is a separate WC next to the bathroom. One bath towel and one hand towel are provided per person.

very comfortable and always clean and tidy.
Have been staying at Millside Cottage for the last ten or more years and now regard it home from home. Having parking is a bonus. Braithwaite is in an ideal position for visiting other parts of the lakes or for many walks.

A cosy comfortable cottage in the centre of an idyllic village. Wonderful walks from the front door whether it be hill walking, shops or pubs!

A comfortable cottage in a good site but seeming a bit tired.
Very well positioned and comfortable but there were quite a few faults and guest information was limited. There was a general feeling that the cottage needed updating with more care being taken to make guests feel welcome.

Millside Cottage experience.
It was like staying in an ordinary looking Lakeland cottage, with a futuristic array of machines which we appreciated. They weren’t too difficult to use. The village was a delight to walk around, and the shop was handy next door. Only a slight drip on the kitchen tap worried me, but in Cumbria this year there isn’t a water shortage! We met 2 friendly villagers in the street, one of whom showed me his beautiful garden. It wasn’t far to the Keswick Convention either, and we loved the walk in the Whinlatter Pass Forest.

Perfect location
We enjoyed 6 nights in Millside Cottage during the recent snow and ice, and found it to be very warm, comfortable and clean. The beds are very comfortable as are the sofas, the view from the picture window in the large bathroom is spectacular, theres tons of hot water and a lovely big bath, plenty of storage space in the kitchen and bedrooms and decent cleaning materials to hand, the garden is well kept and secure for dogs, it’s easy to park directly in front of the house, and it’s right next to Braithwaite shop, 2 decent dog friendly pubs, 2 smart restaurants and 2 cafes (the shop has recently added on a dining area, although it’s not dog friendly). Loads of great walking from the door to suit all abilities. Keswick Cottages as a rental agency are also good communicators and offer a personable service and are very good value compared to the other national rental companies (Sykes, Hoseasons etc). We’d happily return. As an aside, the recycling/bin information for the cottage needs updating (collections aren’t on a Tuesday as stated and there’s no information on what can be recycled in which external bins).

Lovely cottage in great location
Our fifth visit, and Millside Cottage is a bit of a home from home. Perfect location. Village shop is virtually next door, ideal for basic provisions, ice cream, cakes, bread baked daily on site. Coledale Inn just a few minutes away, excellent for refreshments or huge meals. Superb view from beer garden. Staff very friendly and attentive. Swinside Inn, a mile or so away equally recommended. So many walks from the door, no driving needed. Easy walk to Keswick that has Booths ("waitrose of the north") and Co-op as well as a massive variety of outdoor clothing shops, coffee shops and pubs. Useful as no welcome pack other than a small supply of cleaning products provided. Some maintenance needed internally and garden could do with a little tlc. Parking in front of house wouldn't work for other than one normal/large and very small second car. Access sometimes tricky when cars/vans parked opposite on the narrow road. Nothing that spoiled our holiday, and we will no doubt return in future. Thank you, lastly, to Keswick Cottages for efficiently and professionally managing the booking process.

Excellent characterful cottage but parking too small for two cars
We really enjoyed our stay at Millside Cottage in Braithwaite, a property we had seen in passing through the village for many years. The downstairs living spaces in the lounge and kitchen are excellent and spacious, as is the bathroom upstairs. The bedrooms are much smaller by comparison but still comfortable. The enclosed rear garden is a bonus for dog owners. The cottage is ideally located for the village ameneties, public transport and local walks. Just two negatives to report. First, the cottage is described as having two car parking spaces but the second car would need to be extremely short to fit between the front porch and the road. Our second car was a Ford Fiesta and it was way too long. Second, the rear porch off the kitchen has a polycarbonate roof which in itself is not a problem. However, whenever it rained water cascaded in large amounts on to the roof with a terrific noise, presumably as the gutters on the main house were blocked and overflowing.

Cosy, Comfy, dog friendly, perfect cottage
Perfectly located in the village, just a few steps from the local shop and less than 5 minute walk to 2 excellent pubs serving excellent meals. The cottage benefits from parking to the front, and a secure small garden to the rear with outstanding views of Latrigg, Skiddaw range, Blencathra and Barrow and has a small table and chairs. Kitchen is very well equipped and spacious and the lounge is quite large but cosy and warm, the gas fire makes for an even cosier feel. Plenty of storage downstairs. Stairs are slightly steep but lead to a long landing and 2 bedrooms, bathroom and seperate toilet, all rooms upstairs have stunning views. The king size bed is so comfortable and the pillows are amazing and help you drift away to sleep. Again, cupboard space is excellent upstairs. Only slight downside is the water pressure in the shower cubicle, not great but manageable, you could also use the shower attachment over the bath if needed. The cottage has a tablet that welcomes you in and holds all of the appliance operating manuals plus other useful information, a really clever touch. Keswick Cottages were brilliant throughout, excellent communication, care and attention given, our first time using this company but will use again. Highly recommend the Royal Oak and Coledale Inn for dining and a walk to force crag mine is ideal for views and a good wide flat route. Did not want to leave this little gem of a cottage and would love to come back.

Excellent cottage
We had a great week in this lovely warm , deceptively spacious well equipped and immaculately clean cottage . It is situated in Braithwaite, has parking for 2 cars and the 2 pubs in the village which offer food are less than 5 mins walk away . The courtyard garden was safe for our dogs . The staff at Keswick Cottages were really friendly and helpful to us from the moment we booked .We also met the owners Ian and Sue who were very friendly and informative .

Home from home
We've stayed at Millside Cottage multiple times and love it. It's very homely and cosy, and with each visit have noticed further improvements which entice us back again and again. It has a well-equipped kitchen - a bonus for those that prefer to cook and has the added benefit of being in a great location. No need for the car - simply walk out of the front door to enjoy this lovely part of the Lake District.

Ideal location close to Keswick
Had a good stay at Millside Cottage. However the property is in need of a little updating but this didn’t spoil our overall holiday. The village shop just down the road from the cottage is excellent.

Outstanding cottage in an outstanding area
We’ve stayed in Millside Cottage several times because we love staying here so much. The cottage is always clean and well-equipped. We particularly like the little sun room off the kitchen and enjoyed eating our breakfast here and also drinking coffee from the new Nespresso machine. We didn’t need to go out in the car all week because of the many fabulous walks from the door. Can recommend the granary bread and sea bass from Braithwaite village shop. Definitely coming back soon.

Give it a try, a wonderful place to stay I give the score 100 % .
I have stayed here many times and never been disappointed. The cottage is immaculate and is so well equipped. It is situated on a narrow quiet road so a relaxing sleep assured. The village shop is only a 2 minute walk away and sells everything you might need to buy. Give the delicious ice cream a try. One has lovely views from the rear of the property. Plenty of walks for the active holiday maker right from the door and if you do not want to use your car there is also a good bus service. Hopefully I will be able to return many times in the future.

Millstream Cottage
Lovely cottage, we have stayed here before and enjoyed our previous stay enough to come again. As you get older the stairs get steeper and with just one toilet up those stairs, life begins to get a bit harder. Beware the bath is quite deep and us oldies struggled to stand up. We brought our own carpet runners so the dog doesn't break his neck on the slippery floors. These are minor niggles and we did enjoy our stay again.
