Our family of five spent three days at Villa Marina, and had a great time. The villa, on three floors, is spacious, comfortable and extremely well-equipped. It was spotlessly clean on our arrival. Each of our three teenagers was thrilled to have a large bedroom to him/herself, plus a deluxe shared bathroom. Our master bedroom with its en suite shower room was perfect. The weather in April was too cold to use the pool, but it looked extremely inviting! We enjoyed sitting in the sun on the various balconies. The washing machine was very useful, and enabled us to travel light! And next to the washing machine (at ground level) was the pool table and ping pong table, which the kids loved!
Marina and Panicos stocked the villa with essential foodstuffs (tea, coffee, milk, eggs, etc.) before we arrived, which was greatly appreciated. In fact, Marina and Panicos couldn't have been more helpful, and were always friendly and attentive: first, all preliminary communications with Marina by e-mail were completely satisfactory -- no question (and I had a lot!) went unanswered. Then, when we arrived, and felt chilly in the evening (the house was still a bit cold from the winter) Marina lit a log fire for us (the central heating panel left us all baffled!) and Panicos came the next morning to switch on and regulate the heating. We were helped, too, by Panicos' nice aunt next door, which was very convenient!
Kathikas itself is very pleasant, and has a wealth of good restaurants to choose from (I believe there are six!). We ate at Imogen's Tavern and Yiannis' Tavern, both of which had excellent food and warm and friendly service. We told Yiannis that we loved the olives and he presented us with some when we got up to leave. Like Marina and Panicos -- indeed, like 99% of the people we encounted in Cyprus -- he was charming, open and generous. We also went to Marina and Panicos' restaurant on the Paphos waterfront, The Moorings, and had a very pleasant meal, with Panicos determined that everything should be just right -- recommended!
Kathikas was a good base for exploring western Cyprus: we explored the Avakas Gorge, visited Paphos and Latchi, and had a great day walking in the Akamas peninsula, which is glorious. Many of the nearby villages have charming old centres, and pretty churches. That said, I can imagine lazy summer days spent by and in the pool, with no need to leave the village!
In summary, we highly recommend Villa Marina, and its exceptionally nice owners!
