Whilst the town has maintained much of its original charm it is now one of the most up and coming resorts of this region. Kalkan consists of narrow cobbled streets which all lead to the picturesque harbour. It has a wonderful array of restaurants where you can sample some of the finest cuisine in the world, many with roof top terraces offering a wonderful view of the harbour and the starlight night sky. Alternatively you can watch the gullets and fishing boats from one of the many harbour side restaurants. There are a few bars available in both areas for a relaxing drink at any time of the day or night. Market day, Thursday, selling a wide variety of goods including locally grown produce, particularly good value are the herbs and spices. In the town there is a wide selection of shops selling beautiful Turkish carpets, jewellery, antiques and wonderful clothing made from the finest Turkish cotton which open well into the late hours.
