If you are looking for a cute, fun, modern, comfortable, easy, affordable, and relaxing little cottage on a nice lake, you've found it! This property was just recently purchased by new owners in 2020 and they have upgraded it with new furniture and appliances. The cottage has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, is about 1000 square feet in size and sleeps 4 adults. It's in a great location on Manistee Lake and includes the use of the private dock and 2 kayaks.
NEIGHBORHOOD:
The location of the property is right in the heart of northern Michigan, so it's really a great location to explore all that northern Michigan has to offer! The cottage is about a 15-minute drive from downtown Kalkaska, which is a cute little northern Michigan town with a nice collection of shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, and a grocery store. Kalkaska County (in which the cottage is located) is regionally famous for lakes, fishing, hiking, boating, outdoor / nature activities, and snowmobiling. (The county is in a "snow belt" section of Michigan and gets a great deal of lake-effect snow.) Snowmobiling trails in the area are readily accessible from the cottage. Skiing and snowboarding are also very popular in the area. Forbush Corner is a great place for nordic cross-country skiing and is only 16.6 miles east of the cottage. Similarly, Mount Holiday provides downhill skiing and snowboarding and is only about 30 miles west of the cottage!
The cottage is also only 20 minutes away from Torch Lake, which, with its famous turquoise-colored water, is widely regarded as the most beautiful and popular inland lake in all of Michigan! Torch Lake makes for a fun day trip and additional sites to see. The little town of Alden on Torch Lake is also very charming and enchanting.
If bigger city activities are desired, although the cottage is in a very natural and peaceful setting, it is actually only a 45-minute drive from Traverse City. Traverse City is the tourism, entertainment, dining, and financial hub for all of northern Michigan and, in addition to lots of scenic natural beauty associated with its location on Lake Michigan, the city has a wide and wonderful array of shops, restaurants, cafes, museums, and nightlife.
THE SPACE:
The size and layout of this vacation rental home makes it a wonderful getaway destination for small groups, small families, couples, or individuals. The cottage is also dog-friendly and guests are invited to bring up to 2 dogs with them. (Pets other than dogs are not permitted.)
Each of the bedrooms features a queen-size bed and a large closet. The kitchen features all modern appliances including a beautiful new French-door refrigerator with a bottom-mount freezer. Pots, pans, dishes, and cooking and dining utensils are all included with the rental as are sheets and bath towels. There is a little dining area next to the kitchen and it provides a great view of Manistee Lake while dining. A new 4-person dining table is on order and will be in place when the property goes live for rentals on May 3, 2021.
The living room features new, cozy, and very comfortable furniture and a fantastic view of Manistee Lake via big bay windows. The cottage also comes with a new washer and dryer!
The cottage has its own private lakefront on Manistee Lake, which is an all-sports lake, so motorized boats and jet skis of any kind are allowed. The new owners have put in a nice dock on the lake and the use of 2 kayaks is also included with the rental! Mooring buoys for boats are also provided, so guests are very welcome to bring their own boats, jet skis, or other water toys and attach them to the mooring buoys or the dock. An outdoor fire ring with chairs for bonfires and s'mores is also available.
