Third stay at Kona Palisades
After having stayed twice before without incident, I had a misunderstanding with the host.
On the positive side, this apartment has a nice, well-equipped kitchen, a spacious living room and porch, and a large, but tricky to operate shower.
On the negative side, the driveway is steep, and the parking very tight and limited. The towels smell of mildew. The coqui frogs are so loud at night that you have to sleep with earplugs and the windows closed.
You will be staying beneath the home of real people in a real neighborhood with all of the compromises therein. The next door neighbor drives a loud truck with a wall shaking stereo, and he could be heard in a rage shouting profanity one evening.
Martina, the hostess is civil, however, her husband made no effort to introduce himself or be friendly during my three lengthy stays at their property.
Rather than friendly conversations, the host likes to communicate by email response through VRBO, but I found that difficult to keep up with as the wifi was not working, and not everyone can receive emails on their phones.
Apparently, Martina was gone during this stay, and I had a misunderstanding with her husband about an offer to charge my car at a safe rate while paying twice the cost for electricity. In retrospect, that was my mistake, and he blew it up into a bizarre set of accusations.
Don‘t think that you will be staying in a five star hotel.
You‘ll be okay as long as you follow the “rules and warnings,“ as he put it, of the host.
