Comfortable, modern holiday house with mountain views in a quiet cul-de-sac on the peninsula, between South Bay and the town side. It's away from the hustle and bustle of the town side, & yet only a short drive to anywhere in Kaikoura.
We have most conveniences, a great kitchen, comfy beds & furniture, free WIFI, a deck & plenty of off-street parking.
This is a large house, and you will be renting the front half. The units connect via a shared laundry.
We have built a large 6 bedroom house, separated into front and rear units. Each has 3 bedrooms.
The two units are separated by a garage, and connected by a shared laundry that runs behind the garage. This listing is for the front unit. If you have a large group, you might prefer to rent the entire 6 bedroom house - that's another listing. We also own another house on the other side of the empty section next door, which we similarly rent out.
The entrance to the unit is via your own private front deck with wide eaves providing shelter.
The master bedroom has an ensuite, a super-king bed and features a sliding door onto the deck.
The second bedroom has a split super-king bed. It can be made up as a super-king, or 2 single beds. If you have a preference for this, be sure to tell us.
The third bedroom has a king sized bed.
There are 2 bathrooms - the main one, and a private ensuite attached to the master bedroom.
The living space, kitchen & dining are all the one room. The kitchen features an oven, electric hob, extraction fan, dishwasher, fridge/freezer & microwave. It has an island with granite top that's the ideal social hub while preparing food.
The living space has a leather couch (3+2) and a 65" TV. And a dining table that seats 6.
In the shared laundry we have a washing machine and a clothes dryer.
You won't normally have access to the garage, but if you are planning to go fishing, do let me know. I can give you the access code so you can use the fridge & freezer in the garage.

A note about the rear unit - we don't rent it out separately. It was our intent when we built, but the sound isolation isn't really up to it. As a consequence we either rent the whole house, or just the front. I do sometimes come and stay in the back, but I know not to make too much noise. What this means is that it is very likely that there will be no-one staying in the back unit while you are there.
There is a long drive that runs up the left side of the house. There is also a large amount of space in front of the house, off the street. On top of that there is a small space on the right side of the house. If there are guests in the rear unit (unlikely) please do not leave your car in the drive that runs up the side, or you will block them in.
We also own the mostly empty section next door. You are welcome to park on it provided the ground isn't too soft (unlikely to be a concern in the summer). This is a great place to park boats, and for children to play. Note that any guests staying in the rear unit, or at No 6 will be getting the same advice, so you may need to share.
There are some shipping containers at the rear of this section. One is mine, and the others belong to our neighbour, who owns Hunting & Fishing. You may see people access these containers occasionally.
And naturally there's parking on the street.
I probably won’t around in person, although I might come and stay in the rear unit, and mostly on weekends.
Generally if I am around, apart from introducing myself, you'll hardly know I'm around.
We are located almost at the end of the peninsula, up top. There's no through traffic, so it's lovely & quiet. That also makes it very safe for children. It's within walking distance to the beach, the peninsula walkways, the seal colony & 5 minutes drive from the town centre.
You really need to have a car to get around Kaikoura - while we are within walking distance of town, it is fairly far, with a bit of a hike uphill coming home. We have heaps of off-road parking for cars and boats.
