Getting Around:
Getting around Jerusalem is relatively convenient, with various transportation options to explore the city and its surroundings. Here are some common ways to get around in Jerusalem:
Public Transportation:
Buses: Jerusalem has an extensive bus network that covers the city and its outskirts. Egged, the main bus company, operates most of the routes.
Light Rail: The Jerusalem Light Rail runs from the northern neighborhoods through the city center to the southern neighborhoods, providing a fast and efficient way to travel.
Taxi Services:
Taxis are readily available throughout the city. You can find them at designated taxi stands, near popular attractions, or simply by flagging one down. Make sure the taxi has a meter or agree on a fare before starting your journey.
Walking:
Jerusalem's city center, especially around areas like Mamila and the Old City, is very pedestrian-friendly. Walking allows you to explore the narrow streets, markets, and historical sites at a leisurely pace.
Car Rental:
If you plan to explore areas outside the city, renting a car is an option. Most major car rental companies have offices in Jerusalem. Keep in mind that parking in the city center can be challenging, so having a parking space, as in your apartment, is a valuable amenity.
Biking:
Biking is becoming increasingly popular in Jerusalem, and there are bike rental services available. Some areas have dedicated bike lanes, making it a pleasant way to explore.
Tourist Shuttles:
Some areas, especially tourist hotspots, offer shuttle services. These may be convenient for traveling between popular attractions.
Guided Tours:
Joining a guided tour can be a hassle-free way to explore the city. Tours often include transportation and a knowledgeable guide who can provide insights into the history and culture of Jerusalem.
Remember that Jerusalem is a city with diverse neighborhoods, each with its own unique character. The choice of transportation depends on your preferences, the locations you plan to visit, and the overall experience you seek while exploring this historic city.
