Adventures at Big Canoe

Adventures at Big Canoe, located near the north gate, is a short walk or drive to the Wildcat pool and trail. This secluded five-bedroom, three-bath home at the end of Yanoo Trace cul-de-sac offers ample parking. Spread out in the upstairs great room or the expansive downstairs recreation room. The newly renovated kitchen features a gas stove and beautiful counter seating. Downstairs, a conference room with an antique table seats 8-10, perfect for business meetings or gaming.

The front entrance opens to a great room with a flat-screen TV, gas fireplace, fully furnished kitchen, and a dining room seating 6-8. The main floor includes three bedrooms: a master with a queen bed, walk-in shower, and tub; and two guest bedrooms with queen beds sharing a bath with a tub/shower. A screened-in porch with new furniture and a large deck with patio dining furniture and a propane gas grill are off the great room. Downstairs, find a large recreation room with a flat-screen Smart TV, gas fireplace, game table, and two additional bedrooms (one queen, one with two twin beds) sharing a remodeled bath with a walk-in shower. Each bedroom has a TV.

The conference room or gaming room seats 8-10 at an antique table. The home's new landscaping enhances the mountain escape feel. Adjacent to hiking trails and a 5–10-minute walk to the Wildcat Pool area, this home is ideal for large families, groups, or business retreats. Enjoy a peaceful getaway at Big Canoe!

THE AREA:
Big Canoe is an 8,000-acre wildlife gated community in the hardwood forest of the Blue Ridge Mountains just north of Atlanta, offering over twenty-four miles of maintained hiking trails and plenty of wildlife including deer, black bears, and turkey. With seven mountains and five lakes, the community has a beautiful backdrop for its three championship golf courses, fourteen tennis courts, three swimming pools (one Big indoor), swimming lake (with beach, paddle boats, canoes, & paddle boards), stunning mountain lake (with marina, fishing & rental pontoon boats) and first-class wellness center and basketball court. As a renter, you have access to all of the Big Canoe amenities paid directly for each amenity. I'm sorry, but we do not offer any passes with the rental. Wonderful Property
This beautiful house was extremely clean, with a beautiful location. We were down for my youngest son’s national race at the Altanta Motorsports Park just 17-20 minutes away. Highly recommend this location.

Beautiful home
Our group of 9 adults enjoyed our stay. We liked being close to the North Gate, with easy in and out. We enjoyed the trails that were easily accessed near the house. The antiques that decorate the home are lovely. One of the neighbors pointed out some baby bears hanging out up in the tall trees! I recommend the Clubhouse restaurant. It was a beautiful view of the lake as we sat out on the covered porch, and the food was very good.

Big Canoe had plenty to offer even in the winter. The home was in beautiful surroundings and conveniently located to Ellijay and Blue Ridge for day shopping.

Great Location in Big Canoe
Easily accommodates 10 family members, would not recommend 12 unless you are bringing your own linens and air mattress. Big Canoe is a beautiful quiet neighborhood. The home is large and nicely furnished. Feedback was provided to the rental company and we have confidence they will make a few easy changes to ensure the next families stay is much more comfortable.

After Christmas family trip.
Home was very nice and clean! Big enough for the all of us. We throughly enjoyed hiking the upper and lower falls trail and Amicoloa Falls. Just beautiful and peaceful!

Amazing Stay!
We had an unforgettable experience this trip! The house was big enough for everyone. Even on a rainy day when we laid low, we all had our own space and didn't get bored and feel on top of each other! The scenery was beautiful, the house was clean, and even though we didn't use the amenities we saw everything the development had to offer and we are going to look into taking another trip in a warmer season to explore the area again!

Christmas in Big Canoe
My family of 6 enjoyed 3 nights over Christmas at McDowell Hideaway. We found it to be a spacious, well equipped, quiet and comfortable location. It's close proximity to the North Gate made it easy and quick to get to. There are many outdoor activities available in Big Canoe. We especially enjoyed the hiking trails. We would consider a return visit to Big Canoe and McDowel Hideaway.

It’s definitely a check off my bucket list. The atmosphere was absolutely amazing. The scenery was breathtaking. The house was comfortably satisfying. Enough room for every guest and even visitors. The stores were conveniently close, especially Walmart. The beds were great. The kids enjoyed the swimming pool and other amenities. Thank you for a wonderful family getaway in the mountains. I will most definitely be back.

I will say this was something different for our group after we got a chance to settle in and stuff we had a very good time .. Staying here was really nice ,But I really wish the house would’ve been more clean …seriously it needs a major deep cleaning on the outside $ inside spiderwebs where everywhere . ..Even though it was nice over all …home needs A few updates… but it definitely was big enough and I liked that we had someone there we could talk to Mrs.Debra was amazing !!! Our great had a good time

Family Summer Retreat
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the McDowell property! We were looking for a reasonably price place that was an hour drive away and could comfortably accommodate 10 people and we found it. The house felt like a home away from home. It was very clean, nicely decorated and well stocked with everything that we needed from towels, extra linen, kitchen utensils, dishes and pots/pans for cooking. We spent time in the large family room downstairs watching movies and a few hours on the screened porch reminiscing about childhood memories. Big Canoe has a great fitness facility, lakes, swimming pools and wildlife (we saw several deer). We grilled on the gas grill and created great new memories for our family. My family really wanted to rent a pontoon but we waited too late to make our reservation. Be sure to book in advance if you are visiting during the summer weekends as reservations fill quickly. Lynn honored our last minute request for a late checkout since there was not a rental on the day we left. My family was so grateful as it allowed us time to have breakfast together before checkout. Booking the McDowell property and check-in was so easy. Lynn was very responsive and answered all of my questions. We loved everything about our experience and definitely would return to this property.

Autumn Hikers
My husband and I stayed a week at the McDowell Hideaway so that we could check out Big Canoe and the surrounding area and get in some hiking, and we had some friends from Atlanta join us for a couple days. We loved Gibbs Gardens and the hiking in Big Canoe and the surrounding area. We loved how comfortable and nicely furnished this house was. Great location, too...just a few minutes from the North Gate inside Big Canoe. Nestled in the woods at the end of a cul-de-sac, so you have privacy, AND you are just steps away from the trails. Lots of towels and extra sheets. Fully equipped kitchen. We liked the big entertainment area in the lower level where we watched movies in the evening. Great to have your morning coffee among the trees out on the deck! We locked ourselves out of the house the first day, and Lynn from the rental management company showed up in less than 10 minutes to help us out. Really enjoyed ourselves, and would recommend this house.
