COBWEBS, THREADBARE TOWELS, AND THE OWNER CAME TO STAY THE LAST 1 1/2 DAYS
The view of the sea and hills is beautiful. Upon arrival, Esteban, property manager, met us at the house and showed us around though only offered us access to 6 of the 8 beds we rented though we paid for the whole property. He also told us the house owner would be arriving on the second to last day of our stay. In text messages, the owner said he had come the previous week, so I thought there was no way the owner would come while we were staying during our paid rental period.
After Esteban left, we noticed cobwebs and dead bugs in corners of rooms but didn't worry about it as it is a country house. When we used the kitchen, we noticed the pots and pans were warped and kitchen tools were melted but, again, we were able to work around it. When my family of four bathed that evening, we were very disappointed to find threadbare towels for our use - more like rags than anything that should be left for a guest to use. The water level in the saltwater pool was low enough to see the unhealthy green scum and plethora of dead bugs.
While the owner did text us in English, all the house information was sent to us in German. While we were at the house, Esteban told us that we would be paying for the electricity we used BEYOND WHAT WE HAD ALREADY PAID TO RENT THE HOME. If this was a condition of the home, the information should have been highlighted.
After having already traveled for two weeks, we wanted the house in Iznate to be a quiet place to rest before we returned home. Instead, for the last full day and 1/2 of our stay, the owner did indeed show up. He spent his first day working on motorcycle engines (NOT TO MENTION USING ELECTRICITY WE WOULD BE EXPECTED TO PAY FOR) and making lots of noise from backfiring the engines. He also brought another person with him - while we tried to relax poolside. Except, the pool is located directly on top of the garage where the owner and his friend worked on the motorcycles, so there was really no hope of us relaxing.
On our last day, our children were scared awake before 8 am when the owner sent workers to hammer on the walls of the house. Needless to say, it was a very unpleasant end to our stay.
Finally, even though we visited during the dry season, the house was full of mosquitoes no matter how tightly we tried to keep it sealed. I worry about the bites my children got as dengue is a known problem in the area since 2014.
We own city and country rentals and were appalled with what we were presented here.
