Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
It’s been 10 years since the opening and the place is a little run down.
Had a fabulous stay at Soho House, Istanbul. The room was comfortable and housed great amenities. The house itself was warm and inviting. Wonderful experience, overall.
This really isn’t a five star hotel, it is a mediocre lodging structure attached to a night club. Music was so loud at night that I could not fall asleep and it continued until 2 am. I was told that the same would happen the following nights of my stay. The staff offered me a set of earplugs or to move me to another room in the middle of the night. It isn’t what I expected paying over 500 USD per night.
The hotel is dated, dark and the hallway (at least the third floor) smells. The bathroom has no room for even a small toiletries bag, you have to flush minimum two times and the seam between the shower wall and the floor had signs of mold. I’d most likely see more but the bathroom was very dark, partly because one sconce was not working.
The furniture itself was dated, finish was coming off the big cabinet. The floor was worn out, again with discolored spots and chunks of wood missing (no, it was not deliberate antiquing, more signs of deliberate neglect).
The overall aesthetic is supposed to be rather dim but when you have to use a flashlight to press the interior elevator buttons or see your face in the mirror, you know it goes too far).
The neighborhood itself isn’t particularly glamorous although there are some good restaurants nearby and you can walk to the Galata Tower. Aside from that, it’s a bit noisy.
Some positives: the staff allowed me to leave after one night (I made a mistake to book it for three). This was the first time ever I cut my stay short anywhere
A mixed bag. Great-looking place and a wonderful staff. But the music from the club next door was so loud I had to sleep with earplugs (even then I could hear the beat). The halls are so dark you need a light to see the room numbers. Reading lamps over the bed have to be maneuvered so you don't whack your head getting into or out of bed. The design of the place sometimes takes precedent over practicality or comfort.
The ambience of the hotel was very nice but the small of cigarette smoke in the bedroom was as truely repulsive- and that is said from an ex smoker, I can’t imagine how other guests feel about it. Some of the wait staff could try smiling a bit more, they were sultry and curt in the bar and resturants. I think they need to brush up on there manners and customer facing skills
We've travelled the world and have never had quite the experience as staying at Soho. The rooms were the most thoughtfully decked out and had everything you possibly might have needed and then some! It was a different experience for sure.
The property is beautiful, they have lovely staff and a great outdoor restaurant. Some of the staff wasn’t very helpful. I booked the bohemian tour and it ended up a big disappointment with walks to tourist things I saw the day before and a $300 price tag.
Please note, the hotel and surrounding hotel plays loud music until 2:30am, so if you want to sleep, the ear plugs won’t help.
