Back to my roots
We spent four days and nights on the estate established in 1817 by my G-G Grandparents. It is always surreal to come here and feel the presence of my ancestors.
The 'Garden Shed' is very cozy and inviting. The amenities are excellent with all the comforts of home. The surrounding fields and mountains are gorgeous. The gardens and pond are beautiful.. The livestock, donkey and very friendly farm dogs are entertaining.. The hosts are.very welcoming and fun to visit..
We reccomend the Garden Shed, you won't regret it!

Little piece of Heaven. ❤️
This was our 2nd time staying here and it was just as wonderful as the first! Plenty of quiet time to fish and explore the mountain. Property is visually spectacular and the donkey is very amusing to have morning coffee with, highly recommend for family time and a peaceful getaway. 2nd time there and there are still things we feel like we didn’t get to take advantage of, seems like we’ll have to go back! Love this place!!

Peaceful mountain farm getaway
It was in a secluded area, but we 3 girls felt safe, the environment was very welcoming. We loved the decor & the landscape was amazing! We sat outside but bugs didn’t bother us - the moon & stars lit the sky & the sun going down behind the mountains glowed. Wonderful visit!

Fantastic Mountain Getaway
My husband, kids, and I had such a fabulous weekend at the Garden Shed. The house itself was charming and incredibly clean. We appreciated the owners leaving carrots for the kids to feed Hieronymus, the friendly donkey just steps from the door. We sat outside at night and watched fireflies light up the trees like it was Christmas. If you're looking for a place that's near Grayson Highlands State Park, this is a great option!

Paradise, as always
My girlfriends & I absolutely LOVE spending a long weekend up at the Garden Shed. We come at least once a year, and it never disappoints. Michael & Matthew are such gracious hosts, making sure the hammocks are out for some relaxation near the creek. Just a slice of paradise!

A little slice of heaven!
Stunningly beautiful landscape & conveniently located. We loved waking up to the cows and donkey. The renovation of the “garden shed” is fantastic. Very roomy and comfortable. The HVAC was noisy, but next time we’ll just turn it off and throw another quilt on the bed. Too bad we didn’t have more time to relax in the adorable hammocks - we hope to remedy that soon 😊 Thanks again for a great stay!

Perfection -
Michael and Matthew are fantastic, the cabin was perfect, the views are absolutely breathtaking. Everything about this visit exceeded our expectations. The pictures online do not do this place any justice. You must see it to believe. We cannot wait to come back. :)

A piece of heaven
This was one of the most beautiful places I've had the pleasure to stay. The hosts were wonderful and very communicative. After seeing the pictures in the listing I requested to take family pictures on the property and I'm so glad I did because the farm was a perfect backdrop. My kids loved watching the animals, petting the donkey and playing in the waterfall. I hope we can make it back soon.

The renovated Garden Shed at the Manor is wonderful! It has a very comfortable bed, plenty of space, a fully stocked kitchen, and lots of windows for beautiful views. A touch of heaven
The MOST beautiful property and quaint cottage nestled among mountains and farmland. A sparkling creek runs through the meadows, cattle gaze at you on your walks, a lovely pond with a path around, a gazebo to take it all in and a covered shelter with two hammocks are all available to enjoy. We LOVED it! The pup and the donkey became our buddies too ♥️ we hope to visit annually and be refreshed!

Peaceful Get Away
We enjoyed our stay. The cabin is decorated beautifully and the perfect place for a get away. The location is great if you want to enjoy the quiet. We were unable to enjoy any of the farm because of commitments with the wedding we were there for, but I would love to go back when I have more time to relax and enjoy my surroundings.

Storybook worthy!!
I was in charge of booking a place to stay for a friends wedding in the area. I didn’t put too much effort into looking as we were just there for two nights. This property looked nice and was close to the venue. I don’t know how we got so lucky…My husband and I were SO blown away when we arrived to the rental. I kept saying “is this real”!! We will certainly be back. It was truly a story book worthy farm. HIGHLY recommend! The hosts were unbelievably lovely as well.

Wish I Lived Here
I loved this place and so did my husband. The cottage is spacious for two and the bed is comfortable. We loved the vibe it had, it bit rustic, a bit modern. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and so pastoral, literally. Cows are grazing on the hillside and a friendly donkey comes to greet you everyday. Communication with Michael is easy. If you are a coffee lover, I'd recommend a drive to Sparta. There is a great coffee shop and cafe there. We hope we will be able to return soon. Almost all the pictures I took on this anniversary trip where at the beautiful farm!

Nothing less than AMAZING!
This space was exactly what we needed to disconnect from the real world and relax with family. So much to explore and take in, there really are no words to describe the beauty, even the rain feels different here!! The house is so unique in every detail and there was nothing we were lacking upon check in. I would recommend 100 times over and we will definitely be returning in the future!

Another great stay
We spent another 5 days at the farm in Independence. As always, Michael and Matthew were welcoming and happy to let us share their little peace of heaven. Our boys (10 and 6) had a great time running around the property, catching lightening bugs, and swimming in the swimming hole. We filled our trip visiting Powerhouse Falls, river tubing in Fries, hiking in Grayson Highlands State Park with the wild ponies, 4th of July parades and biking the Creeper trail. We always sleep so soundly while we visit. Beds are comfortable, plenty of towels, blankets, kitchen is well stocked. Everything you could ever want. See you again next year!!

Gorgeous Getaway
Clean, spacious cabin with everything you need including special touches like games a children’s books. My husband and I stayed with my MIL and three children (7, 4, and 6 months) and there was plenty of space for all of us. The kids absolutely loved hiking on the grounds, fishing, playing next to the stream, relaxing in the hammocks and feeding the adorable and friendly donkey Hieronymus. The kids also loved reading books and sleeping up in the loft, while grandma slept on the pullout couch and my husband, 6 month old and I slept in the bedroom. Incredible views of the gorgeous countryside surround this place and it felt very peaceful and serene even with our three crazy boys! Micheal and Matthew were also wonderful hosts and really went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and that the boys had a good time. We will definitely be back for another visit!

Wonderful stay
We had the best time ever. A special Thank you to the owners. The “Gardenshed” was so open, clean and delightful.
We thank the owners so being so patient as my 2 little guys just loved running nc barking all over the farm- with me running closely behind them begging them to stop barking. They enjoyed the pond, barking at the crickets and sleeping on the porch.
We will be back…we are so in love with the area.

Wonderful Location!
A truly wonder-full location! Nestled within one of the most beautiful areas of farmland in the region. The flowing creeks and rolling green pastures dotted with massive rocks and beautiful cattle make good company. And we loved being greeted by the resident donkey... we just wish we knew his name. Everything about the cottage was welcoming, tidy and well-kept. Thank you for a peaceful stay!

Appalachian Charm
A converted shed is a wonderful stay for a couple or small family. Beautiful old farm in a deep valley with cattle grazing the hillside, a donkey outside the window and a friendly border collie. Just right for hiking Grayson Highlands for a few days. Loved it. We will be back.
