Lake Front Log Home, Amazing Mountain Views, Private Fishing and Canoeing

Our custom log home on a lake, has unsurpassed mountain vistas, private fishing and canoeing, great hiking access, and is the perfect blend of privacy and convenience: less than an hour to Denver or major ski areas, but in a small mountain community. We built our home to rejoice in nature and celebrate our love of the mountains. Marshall successfully climbed Mt Everest, and all of the 7 Summits, so each room is filled with photos and treasures from each region. Gourmet kitchen and well appointed throughout. Elevation 10,400 ft.

THE SPACE
Dark skies, on privately stocked lake, no AC required, and hiking right out the front door with access to the Continental divide.

Paddle Across the Lake, Enjoy Private Fishing, or Just Soak In the View
Private catch and release, fly or lure only, fishing right out the back door on Lake Quivera, as well as our empty lot just to the north. Please only fish from our private property. No state fishing license needed. A canoe is also provided with your rental for use on Lake Quivera only. Please always wear life jackets, as the water is very cold.

Outdoor and Neighborhood Activities
Walk to Silver Lake, hike to St. Mary’s lake at the foot of the glacier, or enjoying hiking, snowshoeing, or backcountry skiing on miles of trails; only a couple of miles from the James Peak Wilderness Area. Find historic mining sites, equipment, and buildings; or search for the unmarked graves on Yankee Hill, the “biggest tree in Colorado” near “Table Rock”; or visit “the mail box” at the “rock house.” Watch for fox, moose, chipmunks, pine marten, deer, coyote, muskrats, squirrels, bear, and a plethora of birds, including humming birds (yes, at over 10,000 feet!). Contact us to arrange a visit to the schoolhouse and museum just a couple of miles from the house in our historic mining district, run by the Alice Historical Society.

Home Highlights
The Denali great room has vaulted ceilings, custom woodworking, pellet stove, river rock Victorian-style gas fireplace, Brazilian cherry floors, and double 8-foot French doors opening up to a lake view on the deck with customized hand carved animals and railings. Use the gas grill and enjoy your dinner at the comfortable deck table, and turn on the gas fire pit for warmth or roasting marshmallows. The flat screen 3-D TV, with select 3-D movies, is available if you can tear yourself away from the scenery, as well as the photos and native crafts from Alaska and North America.

Our kitchen has three Heartland ovens, plus warming drawer and gas cook top, making it easy for you to cook for your family or group. With granite countertops, Brazilian cherry floors, Asko dishwasher, farmhouse sink, and well-stocked cherry cabinets (cookware, dishes, and staples including spices, cooking oils, and baking supplies) and counter seating, the kitchen is the “heart of our home” where everyone will gather.

The amazing 5-window turret dining room with custom 6-foot round mesquite table is the perfect place to savor delicious food and camaraderie while soaking up the sunshine and lake and mountain views. A well-appointed and easy to operate pellet stove provides extra warmth and comfort.

The Everest loft opens to the great room, with huge windows looking out on the lake – the perfect place to cuddle up with your favorite book or enjoy perusing Marshall’s one-of-a-kind Everest scrapbook and other memorabilia from Nepal, Tibet, and China. A Pack and Play with bassinet in the loft closet for babies and toddlers up to 40 pounds.

The main level Aconcagua master suite has vaulted ceilings, a king size bed, romantic gas fireplace, and access to the deck through your own 8-foot French doors. The 5-piece bath includes a deep, 6-foot, jetted tub with in line heater (that I call “the best thing we did” in the house) where you can soak away all of your worries or enjoy a glass of wine with your sweetheart. There’s a large walk-in closet and plenty of dresser drawers for you to make yourself at home. Watch your own flat screen with Dish satellite TV, enjoy keepsakes from Argentina and South America, or just look out at the stars.

The lower level Kilimanjaro family room has 9-foot ceilings with 7-foot French doors opening to a cement patio just 30 feet from the lake. The patio has additional seating, or enjoy the lake-side swing. With a large screen TV with surround sound, the kids can enjoy their own get away. Lots of books on a wide range of topics and a selection of movies will keep everyone entertained. Pictures and souvenirs from Tanzania and other African countries will fascinate you. The couch pulls out to a comfortable queen bed (towels and bedding included - stored in the closet in the Elbrus bedroom).

The 3 lower level bedrooms all have 9-foot ceilings, large windows, and two have lake views.

The Elbrus bedroom has a queen bed with fascinating Russian photos and collectables, as well as antique climbing gear and other items from Europe and the Alps.

The corner Vinson bedroom has a queen bed with rare and unique things from Antarctica and the southern-most tip of South America.

The Kosi bedroom has a double bed with trundle single bed, perfect for another couple or the kids. Cards, games, and kids books are also provided.

The full downstairs bathroom includes a second jetted tub/tiled shower and dual sinks. The laundry/mud room with extra utility sink. (Half bath is upstairs near the Denali great room).

Deck and patio
Be outside for dinner! On the back deck you can use the gas grill to cook, and gas fire ring to help keep you warm, or let the kids roast marshmallows. Table and chairs (cushions are in the storage box on the deck) provided on the deck, as well another set on the downstairs cement patio, just feet from the lake. Closer to the shore, there's even a swing so you can sit, relax, and enjoy the view.

Town and Tourist Sites
Make the 20 minute drive to Idaho Springs to visit the Argo Gold Mine, Mill and Museum; Heritage Visitor Center and Museum; Underhill Museum; and charming shops and delightful local restaurants. Head to Georgetown and ride the Loop Historic Railroad, including Santa at Christmas time and other special events. Drive up Mount Evans, the highest paved road in the U.S., to enjoy the view and (probably) see big horn sheep and Colorado’s only mountain goats. Enjoy other Clear Creek County attractions and activities: mine tours, zip lines, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, and more!

Beautiful home in a beautiful setting
Everything was perfect! The hosts were super responsive and answered all of our questions right away...They should be called "Super Duper" Hosts! The home was exactly as pictured and described. Fully stocked and perfect for our Thanksgiving gathering. Great place for our dog, nice outside, fully fenced run that even had a dog house! The bed was so comfortable and the home very warm and cozy. We made some special memories that will last forever... Thank you for sharing your amazing home!

Perfect Place in The Mountains
Everything about this property is as represented and excellent. Very well appointed kitchen with every utensil necessary for any kind of food preparation. Large BBQ on the upper deck for grilling. Location and views are superb. Family enjoyed fishing and canoeing the lake behind the house. Owner is very responsive and straight forward to work with. Highly recommend this property!

Perfect experience all around!
Heather and Marshal are the perfect hosts! The house was just as described and could not have been better prepared. The drive up the mountain in winter weather can be tricky and not to be attempted without 4WD. Just listen to Heather’s advice and you’ll be fine. Don’t miss the easy hike to the glacier.

Beyond Exceeded Expectations
We chose this house over a few others based on the reviews of the hosts - Marshall and Heather. To say they exceeded expectations would be an understatement. The home is BEAUTIFUL, clean, amazing views, equipped with everything you might need and more…and Marshall and Heather truly went above and beyond for our family’s stay, making sure we were comfortable, safe and well taken care of! I could write an entire book about all of the wonderful things this home has to offer. Thank you for making our snowy cozy cabin dreams come true!! (This was our first time staying at a Vrbo and I think Marshall and Heather have set the bar too high for us moving forward 😆.) We had a most wonderful time. Thank you.

Just Show up and Enjoy Colorado!
The property was amazing, from the outdoor beauty, lake, deck with gas firepit and patio chairs ... to the inside of the property which was great for our family with adult kids (total of 8 people). Owners were amazingly welcoming, supplied everything we needed and likely more than we expected. Owners were open about getting groceries, supplies, etc. before heading up the beautiful mountain (15 minute drive). Property felt like it was our vacation home - so well done! IF I had to find something to consider, it would be more seating in living room. Well Done !

Awesome stay
Staying here in this awesome cabin was a wonderful expiencnce for our family get together. It snowed everyday except one. The home was well maintained and particularly well stocked with all the staples, spices, condiments, soap, etc. The host was very responsive and proactive while we stayed there. There was plenty to do here inside and outdoors too. There were sleds and plenty of snow, snowshoes, and skis. Indoors there was so many achievements and memorabilia and books to read. We had such an amazing stay. We couldn't thank

Wonderful Experience
We were very happy with our stay here and could not have felt more at home and comfortable. The house is spotless and we were impressed with how clean everything was. The hosts replies were immediate and personable. When we were unable to use the coffee grinder they had a new one delivered the same day. Nearest town of Idaho Springs was charming with great restaurants and shops. There were plenty of hikes and outdoor activites nearby. Very happy and highly recommend. :)

Mountain idyll
Spectacular setting, large house very well laid out for a group, with plenty of room for both gatherings and quiet individual privacy. Very comfortably furnished, with great amenities including canoe and fishing gear, propane fire pit, children’s books, games. Well-equipped kitchen (appliances could use some minor maintenance). We loved sitting on the upper deck overlooking the lake at the end of the day. We had significant ongoing trouble unlocking the front door, which the owner seems to know about but has not fixed, and a moldy smell in the lower level of the house caused us to sleep with open windows. These issues did not prevent us from having a wonderful stay.

Thank You!
I rarely write reviews; however, I wanted to take a moment to highly recommend this listing! We found Heather and Marshall to be extraordinarily kind people. They were both very responsive, and we feel very fortunate to have booked our trip with them. We ended up experiencing some unforeseen circumstances related to our trip (nothing related to Heather and Marshall or their property), and they did not just respond as landlords, but as friends (to a group of complete strangers). If you have a chance to book this listing, do not pass it up.

Well stocked home on a beautiful little lake
We had a wonderful get away from home trip for 4 nights during the pandemic. The house is spacious and clean. The kitchen was well stocked with every known utensil you may need. The oven is a bit confusing and it would have been nice to have instructions on getting it to work properly. The jetted tub was a wonderful way to end the day. Our pup enjoyed being able to come with us as well. We received a message shortly after arriving that let me know not to leave the glass doors propped open due to possible winds. They could see that they were open (I was hoping to air out any possible germs left by previous renters/cleaning crew) due to cameras located on the back deck and at the front door. I was assured they would be turning off the one on the beck deck shortly after we settled in, but it did start our trip with the feeling of not being trusted in the home. We have rented all over the world and this was the first time I was required to purchase insurance on top of the refundable security deposit. Obviously, they care a great deal about this home and have possibly had some bad experiences in the past that leaves them not trusting the new renters? The owners ask that you do not stream movies/tv shows using the internet. If you are traveling with small kids or hope to watch a movie via Netflix or the like.... make sure you download it before arrival. We did notice ticks in the grassy area behind the house (totally normal in the wilderness of Colorado) so be sure to check yourself if you spend time lounging around by the lake. The lake itself is small but it was fun to paddle around in the really nice canoe that is provided with the house. We even caught a fish while fishing from the shore behind the house! The house is cozy and the beds are comfy. We just spent time together as a family of 3 at the home and really enjoyed it.

Hidden Gem in the Rockies
My entire family just spent an incredible few days at this very special "hidden gem in the Rockies"! We gathered at the Everest Lake Lodge for my 60th birthday celebration; and what an incredible time we had there in this beautiful mountain lodge on the edge of the lake! This incredible mountain log home was so well appointed and extremely clean with everything in it's place when we arrived. We had many relaxing evenings in the great room in front of the fireplace. Our favorite spot was the beautiful wood carved round table in the dining area which looked out on the lake through three large windows. We had family meals together there and it's a perfect table to play cards and board games. The kitchen is lovely and everything is there that was needed, even spices for cooking. Lots of counter space for food prep and everywhere you turn there is a beautiful view from the windows! The bedrooms were so inviting and very comfortable mattresses and linens. The owners thought of everything. Each room is themed with such interesting facts, art and information on the seven summits. I loved lighting the fireplace in the master bedroom at bedtime and crawling into such a comfortable and cozy bed. The loft room was so nice to get away alone and read a book and have a cup of tea or coffee while looking out at the views. The pellet stove was an added treat too. The location is priceless....the views are like something on a postcard. We were there in winter so we did not use the deck but we cannot wait to go back in summer to utilize all of the outdoor amenities! The owners, Heather and Marshall were so very helpful and kind. Any questions we had before we arrived, they would always get back asap with information. It snowed quite a bit when we were there and we had questions about snow plowing. They immediately called and before we knew it, the driveway was plowed. I also left my boots behind and lost my necklace. They both showed up in my mailbox as soon as she found them. Their kindness and attentiveness went "above and beyond" anything we had ever experienced with a VRBO! Their property around their mountain home is breathtaking. Idaho Springs is just down the mountain with lots to do and fun places to eat. If you want an awesome, one of a kind mountain get a way, this is the place for you! Thank you Heather and Marshall for helping to make my 60th birthday celebration such a memorable one! We will definitely be back soon!!

Mountain Paradise!
This cabin home and hosts live up to the 5 star rating. Had everything we needed plus more (Canoe, fishing equipment, all household necessities and comforts)! Plus the tribute to Marsh’s adventures thru the house of conquering the 7 summits made it a bit of a fun museum for all of us! Hosts are exceptional with communication. Idaho springs was fun and the st mary’s glacier hike was convenient and gorgeous. We accomplished our mission of seeing fall colors, fishing on the lake, going on hikes and eating yummy food. Thanks Heather and Marsh! We hope to be back.

The house was even better in person. Views were spectacular. Gorgeous lake. We saw a moose with 2 babies in the yard/lake. It is a haul up the mountain but worth it. We had Naughty Cooking Co come cook dinner one night - great food and service - highly recommend! Hosts were wonderful and very communicative.
