The hotel is set in a beautifully quiet and remote area, which makes it a perfect base for exploring the Golden Circle without the crowds. The peaceful surroundings and wide-open skies give it a unique charm, especially at night. The room I stayed in was spacious, well-appointed, and incredibly comfortable. The private hot tub outside was the highlight — soaking in the warmth under the stars was an unforgettable experience, especially when the Northern Lights made an appearance. The design of the rooms combines modern comfort with Icelandic charm, and everything was spotless and well-maintained. Breakfast was exceptional — a generous spread of fresh pastries, local cheeses, fruits, and hot items that changed daily. The on-site restaurant also served one of the best dinners I had in Iceland, with local specialties like Arctic char and lamb, all beautifully presented. Service was courteous and warm, and the staff made every effort to ensure guests were comfortable and well taken care of. It felt both luxurious and personal, which is a rare combination. If you’re looking for a quiet, scenic, and upscale stay in South Iceland — especially if you want to experience the Northern Lights in comfort — I highly recommend Hotel Grímsborgir. "Lovely hotel - doesn't look that impressive from the approach road, but lovely inside - the dining room is particularly nice with large windows looking over the valley. Excellent location as very close to Gullfoss - around 5 minutes drive. Staff were lovely at reception and in the restaurant. Food - both dinner and breakfast - were very good, with a good selection at breakfast. Room was nice - twin beds as requested, clean and warm and with a nice view over the valley. I stupidly left my Kindle behind and have since been liaising with the hotel who are going to mail it back to me - very kind! I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. "

"A fantastic place to stay, and a brilliant base for the sights of south Iceland. Friendly staff and the room itself had everything you could need for the price, plus a little bit more. Had to use the spare duvet as a pillow, as I like a firm pillow, but that's more personal preference."
