This property was clean, comfortable, cozy and charming tucked into a wooded area with a private stairway down to the shore of Lake Michigan to a private beach. The view of Lake Michigan from the house was amazing. The kitchen was well equipped and bright. There were plenty of places to sit inside and outside and enjoy the view.
The location and lakefront on this property is fantastic. The inside is fine - not luxurious but completely functional and it's not likely you're staying in a place overlooking lake Michigan to be inside. It was clean when we got there which is impressive because of all the sand that's around. Deck is great for relaxing. Would recommend
Overall it was great. The view and beach were phenomenal. Shopping and trails close by. Need more storage in other two bedrooms. Did notice cob webs. I did have a load of dry linen and wet linen to deal with that were not mine.
Beautiful views of Lake Michigan from kitchen and living room windows. Cabin was old but beds were comfortable and all basic amenities were updated recently. Great great away for four adults. Beach was perfect! Stairs were steep and old, but well worth it to have access to the lake. Highly recommend and our group would definitely return!
Rickety stairs to the beach are scary and unsafe. Wrong password written for WiFi created frustration. We were asked to do laundry but were not provided with laundry soap.
Our family stayed at this cabin during one of the last weekends of the summer and had a great time. The beach area associated with the cabin is ideal because it's shallow going out to a good distance out and nice, fine sand. We stayed during one of the last weekends of the summer and other public beaches were jammed packed. The cabin is as advertised and 'historic', but you can tell that the owners are trying to upgrade portions of it (kitchen appliances, basement bathroom). If we weren't on the beach, we were sitting on the deck just enjoying the view that all of the neighboring multi-million dollar mansions have next to you. I searched up and down the Lake Michigan coast to find something affordable and this was the only option I could come up with that was right on the shore. You're also about 10 minutes out from Holland. Would definitely come back and stay here.
Love the cabin and the spot on Lake Michigan was gorgeous!
The property was peaceful and relaxing. The views of Lake Michigan were outstanding. Only cons were the broken stairs at the bottom leading to the beach need repair and the mattresses need to be replaced.
If those things were fixed we would be back again and again!
Lake Michigan at its finest of you want to be on the lake and enjoy outdoor space and have beach access this is your place. 55 steps is all it take to have your toes In the water. Kitchen had ton of pots and pans great grill and washer dryer a plus.
This is the place for you if you want a cozy, clean, historic cottage with million dollar views and direct access to Lake Michigan. As a historic cottage it is not luxurious or perfect, but IS comfortable and cool. We had several quirky little things come up, but the owner responded quickly and resolved promptly. As we had mild spring weather while there, we did not need to use either heat or A/C. The cottage is nicely furnished but the livingroom sofa cushions tend to sink when seated there. The beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and the dining area is large enough for a crowd to gather. Overall, this is a cool, comfortable, and reasonably priced lakefront property with million dollar views! We would not hesitate to stay here again!
This place was exactly as advertised = no crowds, lots to do. We thoroughly enjoyed the amazing views, swam on what was basically a private beach, and hit the bike trails that pass only about 100 yards away. Each night we enjoyed grilling and playing games on the deck, until we watched some breathtaking sunsets. We also found multiple great restaurants just minutes away. We hope to definitely stay here again. The owners answered any questions we had within minutes & we also recommend their fresh blueberries & local restaurant tips. THANKS!
The property is an old cabin in a very nice quiet neighborhood. If you don't mind things a little rustic it is a wonderful way to enjoy Lake Michigan life. There are VERY steep wooden stairs up to the cabin from the parking area and down to the beautiful sandy beach. You need to have stamina and good knees. Also, bring all the cosmetics you need as well as all condiments as they do not provide any toiletries and not even salt and pepper in the kitchen. Fortunately, we were prepared and made lots of nice meals in the kitchen. The sunset views were unbeatable and chairs were provided for endless days of beach reads and swimming. We would stay here again.
The view and deck are spectacular and vacations are mostly outdoors. The bathroom on the main level is extremely small. The bathroom on the lower level has no sink and a curtain instead of a door. Thankfully my daughter and her husband had that room. As a guest be prepared to bring towels, spices. The neighbors were so quiet. My two small dogs loved the outdoor area. A park is two doors away. There are a lot of steps to the beach, about 50, so if you are elderly or have difficulty with exercise be careful. Plenty of restaurants and shops in downtown Holland which is about 15 min. away. But that view is amazing. The sunsets like a picture.
We enjoyed our stay. If you are a high maintenance person do not stay here. If you are down to earth it will work for you. The cabin was pet friendly. You really do have your own private beach…about 60 steps to climb- but it’s yours. The cabin is 100 years old. You can see where they have been updating and rehabbing - but it’s still old. There is NOTHING wrong with it. But again, if you want the best of the best do not stay here. If you want to be on the lake and comfortable this is the place for you. I WOULD stay here again. The host was very response when I messaged her. We had a great time. The cabin has comfy beds. Nice towels. All “necessities” are included. (Trash bags, laundry soap, paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, etc)

disappointed
The house is very old which we knew however, when there are cracks and holes in the structure animals can get in. We were woken up by an animal in the basement bedroom. We think it came in through the roof? I let the owner (or manager) know and she never responded. Also, the last 5-10 stairs to the beach were missing and the railing was broken. That's not the picture on the website. Of course, we expected erosion issues to be there but this is a big problem for people that like to use the beach.
We left early and won't be back
A beautiful location & view with the old Lake Michigan feel
The location is perfect - right on the water with a great view from the deck and living room, just outside of Holland so close enough to a grocery store and Holland attractions (e.g., Dutch Village, shops on 8th street). The beach was lovely with 70 steps down from the deck. It's near a township park so people from it and other nearby houses will walk past, but it's still pretty secluded. The cottage itself is one of the original cottages that used to line Lake Michigan but are becoming increasing rare (replaced by fancier houses) and so feels like the cottages we used to stay in many years ago. It's not fancy, but it's quite comfortable (except for the sofa which was impossible to sit on). There's a 6-person dining room but we lucked out with good weather and could eat our meals on the large deck overlooking the lake. The bedrooms are fine and would fit five people well (one bed against the wall would be tight for two people). Kitchen is functional but tight for two people to work in at once. Grill on the deck was very useful. Bathrooms are small but functional. Parking for 4-5 cars. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much and this place would definitely be high on our list for a future stay in the area.
We visited in early June which is a tad chilly for Michigan we learned. The views from the property are spectacular! The home is what it says, just an old lake home with fantastic views. The driveway is beautiful and woodsy and then you walk up the steps to this amazing unobstructed view of beauty! It is the perfect setting! Nature and trees, beach and sand. The home is decorated cute but you can feel the moisture in the rooms. Plenty of storage space in the rooms. The downstairs shower is bigger but did not get hot for us. The upstairs shower is small but cleans the same. Lots of TV options and wifi is good. The property owner was always quick to respond to all of our needs. The neighbors are very friendly. The kitchen is well stocked but it is small and there is not a lot of room to store food. We didn't need a lot so for us it was fine. The stairs to the beach are steep and do not extend to the flat beach surface. There is erosion at the base and there is a retention wall that you have to jump up and down to access the beach and then the stairs going back up. Down was not too bad but up was difficult. We truly enjoyed our time and will without a doubt be returning.

Max’s Vacation
To start
Got there 1 hour before checking in
Asked if could check in early
No 1/2 hour granted
Checked in putting stuff away
Only 2 ice cube trays that only equaled 1
My husband and I drink a lot of ice water and ice tea was not enough for even I drink
So first day had to buy ice cube trays and a ice bin to hold it and tolite paper as only 3 rolls for 2 people for a ten day stay.
Next went to grill out propane empty after I had requested to have a back up because we love to grill out. So had to text and request again
Then on 3rd nite there I am contacted by contact person at 8:15 pm to see if I can take out the garbage can out to the road to pick up in am. I am a 71 year old person who is on vacation and paying top dollar and in her pajamas to take out can a foot ball field away really ❓what’s next can u cut the grass while u r here. And then the sliding glass door would not lock. Half of light fixtures did not work This place is falling apart . If is wasn’t for the view and the access to the water we would have left the first day. So disappointed don’t waste ur money. And would not hurt to pick up trash all around the place example dish simple fixes and not a big expense
This property is worth it just for the awesome beach! We stayed primarily during the week and we pretty much had the beach to ourselves. Despite the public park being down the road, we still had our space.
The cottage is dated, as per the listing. The upstairs bathroom is very small, so that took some negotiating as we are a family of four and two were kids.
The basement bed was quite loud when moving around on it. Also, the humidifier down there definitely needs to run, but the tank is so small that it has to be emptied frequently. Including in the middle of the night. Which was quite disruptive if you’re sleeping down there. Would be nice to have a bigger humidifier that can run longer.
Also would’ve like to see more blankets. Plenty of sheets and towels but not a lot of blankets. Also additional ice trays would’ve been nice to stack up on ice.
Last suggestion is to leave instructions on the thermostat as it appeared to be stuck at a high setting, and despite constantly turning it down, it would always go back to higher than we would’ve liked it. Not having a thermostat like that I had no idea how to operate it. It often would crank up in the night leaving us too hot and again making it disruptive while sleeping.
Overall communication beforehand was good, we didn’t have any questions during our stay. Didn’t see any “house rules” posted despite what check in email said. Internet password was written down but network wasn’t, luckily we guessed correctly.
We enjoyed our stay, the beds are comfortable and the location is perfect, close to grocery store and restaurants. The beach is also very nice, stairs going down to beach are old and probably need replacement soon but we took it slow and all went well.
3rd bedroom in basement definitely needs the dehumidifier ON most of the time. If you change it out several times a day, you’ll be good.
Also a big plus is AC!
