The Avonlea Cottage is a breathtaking luxury cabin with a million dollar view of Claytor Lake in the idyllic town of Hiwassee, Virginia, with lake frontage and access to a dock. This 3750 sq. ft, 4 bedroom, 4 full bathroom (with tubs and showers) home with one queen sleeper sofa sleeps 23. The Master Bedroom includes one queen bed (as well as a full size crib for babies or small children), Upstairs Bedroom #1 includes 2 queen beds, Upstairs Bedroom #2 includes one queen bed, and the landing upstairs includes 2 twin daybeds with twin trundles. The bedroom downstairs includes 3 queen beds as well as a queen daybed with a twin trundle. Freshly and beautifully decorated in a lake home theme with restful blues, grays and creams, there are quality linens on the luxury beds that will provide you with a wonderful night of sleep. You won't find another luxury rental with such a peaceful ambiance.

There is a first-class gourmet kitchen including a Viking range, refrigerator, freezer and all high end stainless steel appliances. Granite throughout the large kitchen, curly maple cabinetry and endless room to whip up gourmet confections. The kitchen comes stocked with many different cooking appliances, stand mixer, etc. We just added an extra large log dining room table to accommodate everyone in the kitchen at one time! All rooms throughout the cottage have a fantastic view of Claytor Lake, there is also a vast stone patio with multiple levels and views, including a fire pit area (wood provided). Bathrooms include luxury towel warmers, granite countertops and a Jacuzzi tub in the Master Bathroom. A gathering room downstairs includes a pool table, air hockey table, Foosball table, dartboard, bar area (including SubZero refrigerator, freezer drawers, professional capacity icemaker, deluxe wine refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave), kitchen table, and fireplace with plenty of room for large groups. There is also a large laundry room with 2 sets of washers and dryers. Outside, there is a large stainless steel Viking outdoor gas grill with rotisserie attachment, perfect for barbecues and big gatherings (propane provided). We also have plenty of inner tubes for floating, horseshoes, outdoor park grill (please bring charcoal if interested), paddle boards and 6 (10 ft.) kayaks for the guests, tons of fun things to do for the kids and family!

Surrounded by many acres of forestland and natural beauty, privacy is not an issue. You will likely see bald eagles soaring over the lake as they frequently choose trees on the property to nest in every year! Yet, you are still just a short drive away from the picturesque and historic town of Pulaski, Virginia, as well as close to many other hubs of activity like Radford, Christiansburg, Blacksburg, and Roanoke. A Virginia Tech football game is less than an hour's drive away! Offering wonderful opportunities for dining and shopping, as well as the performing arts, including the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, you are never far away from whatever you may wish to experience on your getaway.

Perfect cabin for a getaway with Friends
I stayed at the Avonlea cottage with my VT friends while we visited for Homecoming, it was an unforgettable experience. This luxury cabin is stunning, with spacious rooms and beautifully appointed décor that creates a perfect retreat vibe. The wooden construction and furniture made it feel cozy and high-end all at once. The layout comfortably accommodated our large group, thanks to the generous bedroom options, plenty of beds, and four spacious bathrooms. The massive dining table was ideal for our gatherings, creating a warm and inviting space for shared meals. For entertainment, this place is loaded. We had an amazing time in the downstairs gathering room, enjoying the pool table, air hockey, Foosball, and bar area – everything we needed for our evenings. Outside, the fire pit is the highlight of this cabin, it was perfect to hang out outside during the cold nights. Location-wise, we loved the secluded feel and forest surroundings, but it was also convenient to reach nearby towns like Pulaski and Radford for quick outings. I highly recommend Avonlea Cottage for groups or families looking for a perfect mix of luxury, comfort, and nature. Whether for a reunion or a relaxing getaway, it’s a place you’ll want to come back to!

Perfect Retreat
The owner of this property clearly understands how to make you feel at home with family. This home can easily sleep extended family and friends too, and in every room there was thoughtful treats, bottles of water, etc. With all the amenities, there is something to enjoy by everyone. Wonderful oasis!
We had a wonderful time at Avonlea! It is a beautiful and spacious Lake House with breath taking views! There were welcome baskets in every room which was a nice suppose. The kitchen was well stocked and provided everything we needed for a home cooked meal.

Fantastic getaway
This house was perfect!! We had 3 families including 6 kids and we all had a great time here. It is a trek down to the lake, very steep road, but you can drive people and stuff down and back if needed. The floating dock was a favorite for the kids and we all enjoyed the kayaks and SUP’s. The fire pit was fun for a night and the views were outstanding. The hosts have this house very well stocked with many things, which is great since it is a bit of a treck down a gravel road to get to any stores. I would definitely stay here again and for as many nights as possible, just loved it!

Wow! I'm not sure where to begin. This property is stunning and the house is immaculate. The owner has thought of everything! The pictures do not do the house or the view justice in the slightest. We had a blast down by the water during the day floating, paddling, and playing volleyball. Would stay here again without hesitation!

WONDERFUL TRIP
I am hesitant to share how much fun we had - because I want to be able to go back! But, here it is - the property is amazing. Beautifully stocked, clean, safe and lovely. The views and lake access are so thoughtfully done - the home spectacular, and we even spend a day on the NRV Trail riding bikes. It was a wonderful mini break and we hope to be back! Great stay!
We visited Avonlea Cottage with our family and some family friends and our group had a great time. This is one of the cleanest houses we’ve ever rented, and we’ve rented many! The house is also extremely well stocked with amenities, including pantry items, kitchen gadgets, cleaning products and other supplies. The owners have obviously put a lot of thought into how to make guests feel at home. If you’re considering a visit to this area, you would be hard pressed to find a better rental property. Five stars!

Avonlea Rocks!
Our second visit to Avonlea in Hiwassee. Love the location,privacy, and the amenities. The cottage feels like home. Weather was perfect Kayaking,fishing,volleyball, swimming or just lounging. Everything you need for a week’s vacation with family and friends Just bring your food and beverages. Rita,(Host) ,was magnificent. House was pristine and spotless , and with everything you need from grilling to gourmet meals (our niece is a professional chef) so it was a 5 star resort stay. Wonderful retreat
We had a fantastic stay at Avonlea Cottage. My boyfriend and I went for his birthday weekend to get away and relax. The cottage is warm, inviting and all the little details (snack baskets etc,) go a long way to making you feel at home. We loved how private and peaceful the location was. Sarah was very responsive throughout. We had such fun roasting marshmallows by the fire pit, playing pool, air hockey and all the other fun games downstairs. We got really lucky with the weather and took a kayak out on the lake during our stay. I would highly recommend this property.

The Avonlea Cottage was an absolutely perfect venue to spend our Thanksgiving holiday!
There were 18 of us (ranging in ages from 8 to 82) and the cottage was plenty spacious for our large group! Sarah, the owner couldn’t have been more accommodating and responsive with questions, etc. The home offered not only all the amenities you could think of but plenty of fun options to keep the kids busy! The home is located in such a gorgeous setting with the beautiful lake view. We spent most evenings hanging out at the incredible fire pit and just enjoyed soaking up time with family and friends. Would love to go back and absolutely recommend this location to anyone!

Great get away spot.
This lake house surpassed my expectations. It was a clean, beautiful home that made my weekend most enjoyable. I was left a basket of goodies, which was a wonderful surprise. I especially loved how every cabinet was labeled with the contents, and anything you might have forgotten at home was left for your convenience if needed. The owners were accommodating and a pleasure. I would most highly recommend this rental to anyone, and we hope to stay again soon. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.

Wonderful Home, Great for Family Vacations
Our family of 14 stayed here for 4 nights. The house was even better than advertised! Rita the homeowner was outstanding at hosting and communicating. We had plenty of beds, bathrooms, living area, things to do, etc. Water was hot and the AC cold. Beautiful front porch and back decks. Two fire pits with firewood provided. The large home overlooks a lakefront lot with a boat dock, beach volleyball, kayaking, swimming, etc. While you can walk to the lakefront lot, we usually drove 2 cars down so my parents, yard games, coolers, etc. had a ride. We would definitely come back!

A truly lovely experience!
The house is really well cared for, amazingly clean, and full of detailed touches that make for an really nice get away! It is very well stocked, has comfortable and beautiful furnishings, and amazing views. It makes for a relaxing experience from the moment you get there. Snacks and water beside all the beds- plenty of towels- labels so you know where everything is. We really loved this cabin. We had a group of families with teenagers and everyone loved it - we had fun playing volleyball, floating in the lake and lounging on the dock. And it feels like you are really getting away from everything!

Fabulous!
A group of family and friends stayed here over a long weekend to celebrate our daughter's graduation from Radford University. The place is wonderful and absolutely perfect for what we needed. It has all the comforts of home with extra touches that make it so, so special. The drive in is a bit remote, but once you're at the property, there's no need to leave! Sarah was very helpful and patient with our stay as we had to adjust it multiple times due to rescheduling of graduation because of Covid. She was easy to work with a kept in touch with us to make sure we didn't have any issues during our stay. I cannot express enough what a great time we had and how special the house and property are. We hope to return sometime in the future to enjoy it for a full week of fun!
